In a way, yes. Friend of mine is white, blond hair, blue eyes stands about 6'4". He was born in South Africa and is now a naturalized US citizen. So can he claim to be African American, or is it totally dependent on skin color?

Given my experience with White South Africans, I am willing to bet that he does not want to called African American because the general understanding does reference skin color.

But if he wants to call himself African Amerian and explain to anyone who asks why it does technically also apply to him, then he should feel free to do such.

From what I have gathered in my own research "white" South Africans have an average of about 7% DNA from blacks (the Apartheid regime was denying that reality) so if he wants to claim African ancestry he can probably prove it via his own DNA.

You really aren't one to recognize sarcasm are you. :reading:

If you wish to only be taken for your opinion without being supported by facts it can absolutely be taken at that value.

Just don't expect to get many conversions. The entire point of debate is not to give unsupported opinions but opinions supported by facts. If you cannot do that then there is no debate to be had.

Forced? No. Do you think its a good time to be white? Did you look at the questions and methodology?

I don't know anyone who is. Anyone who thinks President Trump hates any entire race has schitt for brains.
He might not like certain people, I don't know anyone who doesn't. That doesn't make a person a racist.

Radicals, fanatics and the far left have used the word to incite way too much. It has become so misused that it is now just passé code to identify certain jerks in a crowd.

I will be perfectly fine if you never respond to another of my posts. I have you on ignore for the reason that your posts are almost always a thinly veiled attempt to insult, intentionally misrepresent my post, or to just plain troll.

    No Sarcasm.

I looked at posts from another political forum but didn't join. It didn't have any rules. The result was a totally chaotic group of complete a-holes.

Yes I would say that too if my unsupported opinions are constantly challenged for evidence behind them.

Its why you lost the climate change debate once I exposed your article's inability to be conclusive in their claim any human activity can impact climate change.

African-American is a stupid term anyways unless that person immigrated here from Africa. Just because someone is black doesn't mean they or their parents came here from Africa. My family came here from Europe in the 1600's, that doesn't mean I'm a European-American. Using the terms black and white are perfectly fine.

Bullshit. If he was on your ignore list then you wouldn't see his posts, and you wouldn't respond like you just did.

LOL No you read it. It was when you got upset about the "most likely" wording in your link that proves they don't have enough courage to even put a number on the percentage of influence of human caused global warming. You were quite vocal about it.

This poll only proves how effective the left is at getting their message out.

Great response and there's also a cultural aspect to the term, which is why recently naturalized black African immigrants aren't African-American.

New poll: 83% of African Americans say Trump is a racist

And I think 83% of African Americans are racist. Could it be the same 83%?

I think what he's saying is that if there was CWC most would see it's number one requirement, being white, would be racist. MLK had a dream for us all not to see color so why are we having organization based on color only? Personally, I just don't think about somebody's race but that's how I was raised in the south by my parents. I get real confused on all this race baiting bs that's pushed by the left because I was taught it's no different than gender.

King said not to judge people based on skin color, but by the content of their character. He didn't say not to see skin color. There is a big difference. In fact, during the 60's the mantra was "Say it loud. I'm black and I'm proud." Would you have asked, why aren't people chanting "Say it loud, I'm white and I'm proud"? Or would you have figured it out based on context. Scholars have written about this tendancy to misconstrue his words for political machinations.

Seeing color is not racism, just like noticing that men and women have differences is not sexism, to use your gender example. Racism occurs when we denigrate, discriminate and oppress based on these differences. Acknowledging, appreciating and affirming differences should be the goal - not color blindness. Like all blindness, it's a disability, preventing you from seeing important aspects of another person. Worse, it's a request for them to suppress certain aspects of their existence that make you uncomfortable.

You could make the case that the law should be color blind, to prevent discrimination, but this isn't necessary in the social realm.
