Do you take joy in causing or seeing emotional trauma in your political rivals? If so, why?

We are turning into a culture of mean. Especially regarding our political opposites.

 

We’re all people, even if we disagree with each other. I find no comfort or joy in another person’s pain.

 

It gets easier and easier these days, I don't really have to do anything other than let democrats watch people like Pelosi, Shumer, Schiff, Waters, Sanders, Warren, Harris, Sparticus, etc, etc, etc, open their mouths and the inner pain starts.

 

Yes, of course I do. There is right now a very popular meme where Trump is giving the finger to the viewer and the caption is "Hey Liberals".

Quite a few people on here have admitted they agree that Trump is a corrupt bastard and incipient tyrant but they still support him because he, "makes liberal heads explode" and there is the picture of the girl screaming which some repeat over and over and over. Most conservatives I know are real fans of the feeling of schadenfreude (sp) These people obviously delight in causing their opponents pain, why shouldn't I return the favor?

Political pain isn't real pain except in really horrible places and even then not really . You can't avoid real pain just by not seeking it out. Many years ago I worked with an old lady who had been a little girl in Nazi Germany. She said she'd had a happy childhood until the bombers started coming over and even then they were just a source of interest since she lived in a country area that was never bombed. She said everyone just knew you never, ever discussed politics and that was the only real difference, ever, even after the war was over.

If somebody wants to be a conservative or a liberal that is their choice. They should expect consequences

 

I do not. I do however get enjoyment out of my opponents emotional trauma when it results from a failure to elicit such trauma from me. Most typically, they seem traumatized by attempts to point out the logical fallacies of their positions, which is quite disappointing, not enjoyable.

And of course, its likely that many or even most perceived attempts at eliciting trauma are in fact merely attempts to point out logical fallacy, on all sides of the aisle. Individual perception being what it is however, its never entirely possible to know the intent.

 

I do not take joy in causing ANYONE pain. I agree with about how mean the political arena has became.

The only joy I take is when I can get them to think for themselves.

Some people aren't too far gone down the rabbit hole.

 

I pity them.. and pray they can someday see the truth. Then some of the others may just be evil and I pray their demons can be exorcised.

There is no joy in any of this for me. But this isn't just politics. Anyone who says it is just about political differences doesn't have a clue what really angers all the rational people who hate trump. It is about good and evil. Trump is obviously a very evil bastard who would sell out his own mother. How do we know this? Read my signature. NEVER in the history of the country would the American people have tolerated such a repulsive and criminal thug as president. One can only conclude that the people who support him are no better.

Calls for the mass murder of tens of thousands of innocent people, torture, calls for violence, and trumpers CHEERED for this. They freaking cheered!!! I nearly threw up. Who the hell are these repulsive, mean little people? Suddenly I felt like I was on an alien planet. America? This is NOT America. This is something else entirely.

 

I voted no, but I make an exception where I suspect that the emotional trauma is manufactured or fake. The talking heads at MSNBC and CNN cannot possibly be as affected by Trump as they claim -- no one has that much energy or strength. They would be in psychiatric wards if they were traumatized day after day for 3.5 years.

I can't prove it, but I suspect that these people pretend to be outraged in order to validate feelings of their viewership. The reason is to keep butts in the seat. And the reason for that is to keep advertising dollars flowing from Geico, Walgreen's and Verizon.

Fox does the same, of course, but the difference is that they don't start crying every time a Democrat wins something.

I'm a bad person to ask because I don't count on strangers who happen to be in political office to make me happy or pay my bills.

Then you don't have a clue why we hate trump. It is a betrayal of the highest order. Yes, we really are that angry and have been since the night trumpers betrayed America. And it will not be allowed to continue. But if trumpers really want to completely destroy the country and drive it into a civil war, that is their choice. And the fact is, that IS what many of them want.

I can tell you for a fact that over half the country is dead against trump and we will not allow this to continue. Yes, we really are THAT pissed and have been every day since trumpers betrayed us and core American values.

 

They are human, so am I. People are people. I am certainly not better than most human beings (and I suspect you aren't either)

When I was interviewed for Spielberg and they asked me, what I thought was the reason I survived, they probably expected me to answer good fortune or other things I said that I thought it was laughter and humor, not to take things the way we were living but to dress them up as something different. You are not entitled to whatever political result you want. Believing that you are can certainly lead to frustration, I am sure. But angry 24/7 for 3.5 years? Not credible.

I do believe that you are unhappy. Considering what people with real problems, endure, I find it disgraceful. No offense, but you're bringing everybody else down, or trying to.

 

Better? Better in what sense? I am more talented and intelligent than most people. Will that get me into heaven ahead of them? Unlikely.

It's fashionable in America, ever since the 60's, I think for men to be self deprecating. Even if they don't believe they are schmucks, they are supposed to pretend that they are to get laughs. I don't say I'm a genius, just above average, hence, smarter than most people. Most people are average. That's what average means.

 

See, your problem is you simply reject facts out of hand. You don't even know me but you think your opinion matters. Well it doesn't. You don't know jack sht about me. But you have convinced yourself that you have some kind of divine knowledge. That is why you aren't furious every day, as true patriots are.

Get a grip. We hate trump and we despise the people who support him. And THAT will never go away even long after trump is gone. Trumpers have destroyed my deep deep patriotism and belief in America, forever. Many young women I've met fail to see why anyone would even be patriotic give the scum trumpers elected. Any perception of America being great or a force for good in the world, doesn't even exist for them. Given who trumpers elected, the notion of patriotism is just a joke.

I keep telling you that trumpers destroyed the country. It's pathetic that it will take so long for you to see the obvious. And if I told you what I really think of trumpers, I would be banned for life.

Support secession. End the nightmare. And trumpers can go have their evil dictator. The good people in the country can carry on the American dream without them.

 

I don't have a problem. I have a solution: quit whining.

 

You don't think you are of above average intelligence? If so, what is the harm in saying it? You are certainly permitted, even encouraged by society to speak about your faults and shortcomings.

 

I'm smart in some areas and stupid in others. I also have blind spots as do we all. (I'm totally unique, just like everyone else).

My intelligence is irrelevant when we're discussing reality, It stubbornly refuses to change no matter how cogent and logical an argument you might bring against it.
