And believe me, it will only get worse! Ever since the end of the 'Great Recession' eleven years ago, we've seen more and more commercials everywhere -- on TV, on radio, and at internet sites (a lot of them). Oh, and because this is a presidential election year, there will be a boat-load MORE commercials than ever! It will ultimately have the effect of having someone pissing in your face with the volume and pressure of a FIRE HOSE....

    1. Underlying agendas - You can sell a product without pushing a gay or racial agenda. I don't need to see guys kissing to sell a product. I have a mixed race granddaughter that I love dearly. I don't need to see mixed race relationships in every commercial to know that they are normal. I also get tired of the man/husband always being a total dolt on commercials. Is that a feminist agenda?

    2. Pharmaceutical commercials - The public has no understanding of how these medicines work and by the commercials, sometimes not even what they are for. The legal speak disclaimers of side affects is frightening and they aim these commercials at the elderly, who aren't always dealing with a full deck.

    3. Debt resolution and reverse mortgage commercials - I put these with the ambulance chasing lawyers. They are after people who won the lottery or the elderly who have saved for their retirement and want to take their wealth when they die. If you have no children or beneficiaries, then reverse mortgages make perfect sense, but that's not the vast majority of Americans. I'm not shafting my kids because Tom Sellek says it's a good idea.

For a $50 pillow, Consumer Reports gives that about middling, saying the stuffing bunches up annoyingly just as you'd expect. Oh, and the guy is a big-time Trumper, surprise, surprise

Speaking of Trump....I have a new annoying (But painfully funny) commercial:

I cant figure out if it's true intention is to poke fun or play the "Sucker born every minute" card.

Yeah, even though he may also be a Right-wing guy like me, I get annoyed as hell when every time I look up, it's him and his sheets/pillows/whatever, or, another damned, ambulance-chasing LAWYER. My European friends cringe when I tell them what WE put up with on 'network' television broadcasts. It makes their skin crawl... and mine, too.

I could tolerate all this advertising much better except that there's so damned MUCH of it, constantly! And, research has clearly shown for decades that anytime there's more than three ads in a row, the effectiveness of all three of them is virtually ruined....

I cut the cable and do my utmost to avoid ALL advertising. Tivo everything you want to watch and then skip the ad breaks.

Life is too short to waste on that crap IMO.

Plus shipping and handling. How many times have you marveled at a price on Amazon $3.99 only to find shipping and handling of $19.95?

I subscribed to Prime for a while last year, but the bad thing about Prime Video is that if you really want HBO, Acorn, BritBox, Netflix, etc., you have to pay extra for all those, too.

The one-day shipping thing at Amazon is nice, I suppose, but I don't mind waiting for 'regular shipping'. The U.S. Postal Service is MUCH better now than it was, say, thirty years ago....

On Xfinity now it's gotten so bad that more and more, you're just paying to watch endless streams of commercials, promos, and SO MUCH CRAP you couldn't care less about! And, this year, to put icing on my 'cable' cake, Xfinity doesn't even carry the Colorado Avalanche hockey games because they got into a price pissing-match with some other bunch of money-grubbers who demanded more money to make my team's hockey games available. So, when my contract's over, so are all my dealings with Xfinity....

Get a Firestick and Kode the hell out of it, the one day shipping is but a small bit of the perks.

Yup, been using my Firestick now for the past 3 years. Just choose what I want to watch when I want to watch it. More than enough choices out there to keep me happy.

I've got a Firestick -- bought it just about a year ago, and I love it! I don't know anything about "Kode", though... I'll need to check that out.

And, to the point that @Derideo_Te made, I would love to be able to buy (BUY) a Tivo, but there again, you have to be 'married' to a service, and pay for it every month. I guess that's why so many years ago, I just started buying DVD's and later, Blu-ray disks, so that I could just pay one time for what I want, OWN IT, and not have to have any monthly 'service fees'. I must have well over a thousand disks, and all of them work perfectly....

And now? Oh, joy! The major companies that make Blu-ray players are going to be discontinuing them (like Samsung). SH!T...!

One question while I've got you here, please.... I very much want to buy Season 2 and Season 3 of an excellent British TV series called, "Hinterland". I was able to buy Season 1 formatted for Region 1 (USA) players, but I cannot find the other seasons in the North American format. I'd buy both of them in a heartbeat, sight-unseen... if I only could.

Kodi allows a "Jailbreak" of your firestick for free movies (virtually all of them), TV and more....think of it as an appstore for free.

Thank you, tecoyah. It looks like I've got some studying to do! The funny thing is that I really wouldn't mind paying for what I want -- and paying well. But, as with Xfinity, when you just pay and pay and pay, and over half the time what you SEE is just more commercial crap, then it's time to make a change.... If I pay 'well', then I should be happy with what I see. Instead... well, you know the rest.

It's publicity at the most inappropriate times like this one that annoy me.

Maybe it's fair to observe that any message that favors one major political faction is always going to irritate and annoy those who are adherents of the other major political faction. Fair enough...?

I was using tivo in the generic sense meaning being able to record something and watch it later. There are lots of alternatives to Tivo itself and while they do take a bit of setting up they are well worth the effort IMO. I have a Raid Array which is a couple of hard disks in the same box that back each other up in the event of one of the disks failing. Total storage is multi terrabytes which means I don't have to worry about running out of room but there are cheaper options. I installed PLEX which is similar in concept to the Firestick. It allows me to install apps for whatever services I want to use and provides me with the ability to record something like a sporting event so that I can watch it later.

@tecoyah is right about Kodi and that is probably where I would start if I were you. Easier to take this in small chunks rather than doing it all at once.
