With Respect, another thread. The Race Card was played a couple days ago and today I hear the Gender Card is in play over Director nominees. What use to be a few hours of Family Friendly TV is GWTW! Oscars watch, not me. Moi Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic, regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
How about, "They like me. They really, really like me". Sally Field. Or when Robin Williams or Billy Crystal hosted. And no personal, political commentary. I mean doesn't count. When the Rockettes came out it Mountie Uniforms was THE BEST.
Yeah, I have to agree. Just how long can you watch packs of 1%-ers patting themselves on the back before you fall completely asleep? The other thing I've noticed - just how often lately does a movie get the nod that large groups of people actually saw? I'm not saying that Avengers: Endgame was The Best Movie Ever but what did it get nominated for - one measly Oscar? And it made how much? You can probably break down the reasoning why fewer and fewer people watch the Oscars into two categories: One is the incessant political pandering that these preening peacocks make while on-stage which has effectively caused half of America to quit watching - and the other on the fact that no one is really interested in watching a show that takes forever to finish to find out which movies no one was emotionally invested in winning some award.
Yep. The public often has different taste from the Academy. Critically acclaimed films aren’t always popular.
46 years ago Steely Dan nailed the Oscars with this line "Show biz kids making movies of themselves, you know they don't give a **** about anybody else."
Well the 2020 Oscars are over Too bad the rain remained so light it hardly qualified as rain. And The Best Picture is Some Flick none of us are going to pay to see and cable would have to have horrible alternatives to succumb to Paradise. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasite_(2019_film) Elites need to understand s do not support, pay for, foreign language films. How can a "Best Picture" also be among the most ignored movies among "us who count". I guess we don't. Moi They Speak Pretty Good BEWARE! Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic, regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.
Doesn't have to be Local. Just English language (American accent) and somewhat a money maker at the Box Office. Maybe the Academy nominated badly.

To be honest....all the whining by people of color about not getting represented has completely ruined the whole thing for me and made it a political theater, I'll pass.
