I'm still very surprised US private communications companies fell so far behind in 5G research and technology. Maybe they were to content with the money they were making off current technology to focus on the next wave. Hopefully we don't have to go to this extreme, but I think most of the patents are out of our hands.

If it is such a good idea, why the need for government’s gun?

Also, not everyone agrees Huewi is the leader. What about Qualcomm?

    “Don’t confuse “research” and “development”

Many in the 5G industry spend considerable amounts of money on R&D, but it is important to not confuse the difference between research and development and how few have real research. Everyone uses development to build products off the research that is done, but very few have deep research organizations that are breaking new ground and paving the way for the industry. This is a key metric for what kinds of companies are truly leading the industry in innovation and standards development. Companies that are doing lots of research are trying to solve problems that the rest of the industry is most likely to encounter, a good analogy is that these companies are the ice breaker ships for the entire fleet. Huawei Technologies has become a major player here but we believe Qualcomm is the undisputed leader in this space as they have been leading in 3G, 4G and 5G and the company is continuing to invest heavily in R&D to ensure that leadership continues all the way through 5G and eventually to 6G.

The question is: What is Barr up to with his phoney-baloney scare routine. Backdoor stock scam?

state control of the means of production in a strategic industry? slopes can become slippery.

On the one hand its cooperative trade and while on the other hand the knife fight continues.

Aren't we just copying what we claim socialist governments do when we attack Huawei and try to control opposing foreign companies???

    One of the worst ideas.
Gov cannot compete with private sector.
Lots of money will go down the drain.

Huawei is the problem and it isnt a pure private enterprise but is in part owned by the CCP. Basically subsidized by their communist govt. If it was not a threat to the west there would be no concern.

5G will increase cancer rates in society, but the planet is over-populated so it's OK.

QCOM & Qorvo (Formerly RF Microdevices) are the leaders in the circuitry for the switches. Huawei is leading in the build out of switches (routers) / networks.

    Biggest boo boo.

Huawei’s clout in the design of 5G stems from its massive research and development budget, and from its aggressive contributions to the round-the-world meetings where engineers cobbled together the underlying architecture of 5G.

As a result, the Chinese tech juggernaut as of early February owned 1,529 “standard-essential” 5G patents, the most of any company. Together with patents owned by ZTE, the state-owned China Academy of Telecommunications Technology, and Guangdong Oppo Mobile Telecommunications Corp., companies from China own 36% of all 5G standard-essential patents, more than double their share of comparable 4G patents, according to data-analytics firm IPlytics.

The Chinese 5G patents cover technology associated with everything from 5G handset componentry to base stations and driverless-car technology. And telecom companies around the world—including those operating in places where Huawei gear might be off-limits—will have to pay royalties to Huawei to license that technology when it comes time to put 5G networks on the ground, experts say.

As a owner of all the stocks mentioned so far I just hope all do well. The fear of the US, is that, Huawei will have the capability of listening in and disrupting US communication in the event of retaliation over tariff's, war or some other calamity between the nations. There is enough out there for everyone. I like Skyworks - SWKS, Marvel Tech. - MRVL .

Actually 5G is too low frequency on the radio spectrum to put out any ionising radiation, meaning any radiation is unable to affect the cells in our body.

I'm always down for a good conspiracy though.

Indeed if you live anywhere near granite (New Englanders) you're currently getting an infinitely more dangerous dose of ionising radiation every second you walk around your town.

I'm afraid this post shows you don't know what you're talking about when it comes to radio frequencies and the like.

The 5G thingy will operate at frequencies HIGHER THAN the existing 3 and 4G systems. They all operate in Gigahertz ranges, microwaves.

Why it is surprise you? The technology has been successfully transferred to China. Many companies made a profit by doing that. Should not we celebrate?

many company are subsideized by government, remember how we subsideized the oil industry and farmer etc. the only reason Huawei is a security threat because its a telecomm company, if its something like Apple where it only make phones etc, then it would be on the lower end of threat. different industry has different threat standard.

alot company are subsideized by government including our own, beside even if its private company government can force its will on them if its national security. saw the news few days ago, the government force facebook/twitter to shut down account associate with iran/venezuela influencer in the name of national security, which is basically what china do almost all the time.
also about a decade back, china bought alot CISCO network equipment, guess what they found several backdoor, and malice in it. after that they never bought from CISCO again. So even if its private business, but if its from Non-ally, you still need to watch out for. the most funny one is Boeing sold China its 747 for government use in late 90s, while it turn out, chinese counter-intel check out the plane, and found about over 100's electronic device embedded at various location of the plane thats used for gather intel.

5G runs at 24GHz in its higher frequency iteration. Microwaves are not ionising radiation, and non-ionising radiation has not been found to cause cancer or other ill effects because it is of insufficient energy to damage cells.

Even the high end of the microwave spectrum at 300GHz this is nowhere near ionising. Microwaves are of a lower frequency than the visible light waves hitting your eyes as you read this post - they have to be to travel through physical objects.

Space X just sent a bunch of satellites into space, they'll be offering roaming at the same price "everywhere". I believe Amazon also launched satellites. Not sure of the specs, effects of solar flares etc and how it compares in performance but perhaps technology is moving in a different direction, rolling out 5G could be very expensive when you're competing with the low prices for roaming Space X and potentially Amazon will be offering.

Yes... in that case it would make what the Attorney General suggests a very good suggestion. Whoever controls the 5G network controls the internet of things... who's going to say "no thanks"

I am however really interested in a bit more detail. Such as, are they going to use towers AND Satellites? ie. you'll be driving along, connecting from tower to tower... switching to satellite then back to tower etc?

I can imagine the market will also determine some of these decisions, for example in Africa the towers are stripped and batteries are stolen, satellites would be a much more feasible option.

What tests have been conducted on humans and other species regarding the effects of such radiation?

There is a collection of interviews and comments by scientists of all sorts regarding the harm of EMF radiation called "5G Crisis, Awareness and Accountability". It is from a week long meeting to discuss these matters, hosted by Josh Del Sol.

Regarding your specious claim that 5G will harm nobody, those people disagree with you. So do I. I'm old enough to remember when police officers using radar guns for traffic enforcement suddenly contracted testicular cancer because they rested those guns in their crotch when not aiming them at oncoming cars.

If you could provide some reference to tests conducted regarding the safety of 5G radiation I would be most grateful to you.
