I predict Trump will skip the debates against anyone other than Biden

Assuming (hoping) Biden doesn't get the dem nomination, I think Trump is going to say he won't do any debates. He'll just keep firing insults at the dem nominee from the safety of Twitter, his rallies, and Fox News. If Biden gets the nom, though, I think he has deteriorated enough mentally that Trump won't see him as a threat.

I'm curious if any Trump supporters agree/disagree, and what they're willing to say their opinion of something like that would be. Pretend it's 2012 and Obama says he's not going to debate Romney. What would you think of that, and would you think the same thing of Trump if he did it?

 

I think he will, I saw his debate with Hillary and I think he could tackle any of the leading Democrat Presidential Candidates.

 

Say what you like about Trump, he does well in debates. Not so much in a rigorous intellectual sense, but he has the right rhetorical approach, and it's effective.

Warren he would be salivating at the mouth to debate. Sanders not so much as Sanders has clearly been sympathetic to something like his position on trade for a long time.

I think he will do debates moderated by FOX or OANN. If Bloomberg is the nominee, he will condition the debate on everyone having the same or no box to stand on.

Are you kidding me? As much as Trump loves the spot light? He's as likely to skip the debates as you are to tap dance on the moon tomorrow night.

 

If Trump gets on the debate stand, his opponent and the moderators can ask him about payouts to porn stars, why Americans are paying him to promote his golf courses, why all the generals he surrounded himself with at the start of his term have walked away from him and are now criticizing him, why his promise to reduce the debt has been discarded ... there is a lot to go after Trump now that he wouldn't have answers for. There is a reason he does not have press conferences and no longer keeps a log of who comes to the White House.

 

Trump, with 0 political experience, took down a large, diverse and talented republican field and then took on Clinton. He took down Bush and Clinton dynasties in one go.

Now that he has experience under his belt, a long list of accomplishments to tout and a failed impeachment by do nothing democrats to recite, why would he not be eager to get on debate stage? I would, in fact, consider not showing up if i were the democratic candidate. It will be very very tough to debate Trump in 2020.

 

I believe Buttigeig, Bloomberg, Klobachar or Sanders would beat Trump in a debate.
They are all smarter than he is. I think Biden is smarter than Trump too, but his responses are slower than they used to be.

 

There are also a number of failures for his debate opponents to hammer on: Failure at dealing with North Korea. Failure to promote a better health plan. Failure to be faithful to Melania. Failure to not play excessive amounts of golf. Failure to stop the Taliban from taking over Afghanistan. Failure to stop Russia from taking over Syria. Failure to reduce the national debt. Failure to hire "the best" people. Failure to stop Iran from restarting their nuclear program. Failure to unite the country. Failure not to be overly envious of other people's success. Failure not to lie constantly. And failure to be a decent human being.

 

Well said except Fauxhontas will never be the candidate and I doubt if Bloomberg will want to get on the stage as he has a terrible voice and being 10 inches shorter than Trump puts him at a great disadvantage. I visualize Trump meeting him on stage and hugging him with his arms around Bloombergs head.

1. economic boom rivaling any other boom in history, with record unemployment for minorities (record unemployment for youth, blacks, women (lowest in 65 years), hispanics)
2. improved border security and building the wall
3. Record # of judges appointed who will uphold constitution, including 2 supreme court picks
4. Renegotiated 4 trade deals
5. Finally got tough on China and squeezing them... getting them to change their behavior. Every president complained, did nothing
6. Finally having allies pay their fair share, making them actually contribute to NATO (70 billion more), proportionally and making them pay for US providing defense
7. Eased relations with NK, their leader went from a barking dog with non-stop threats to a sheep
8. PEACE through strength doctrine. Obama was soft on Iran, paid them billions, billions Iran used to buy more missiles, the very same missiles they threaten US with. Trump killed their biggest terrorist and what did Iran do? fire a few missiles deliberately avoiding killing Americans. Iran's leader is in a weakened state, the people want him out and Iran just turned from being a bully to a being afraid.
9. Killed ISIS leader and DECIMATED ISIS
10. Pulled troops out of places where US was trying to police without much value added
11. De-regulated like no other in history, much needed in a country where the ineffective and inefficient government was exercising more and more control of private industry
12. Tax reform, much needed, especially on corporate sector
13. Criminal justice reform
14. Re-built strength in a military which had been decimated by Obama
15. highest ever recorded optimism in manufacturing
16. allocated 6 billion to fight opioid epidemic


Meanwhile, what will democratic candidates tout in debates? Russia HOAX, trying to fight court battles to obtain Trump's tax and financial records (to SEE what can be found with no evidence of wrongdoing), Ukraine HOAX, failed partisan impeachment. A party which is now led by a 30 year old who talks about end of the world in 8 years and wants to ban all planes, destroy agriculture. What policies will they sell? Medicare for ALL, over regulate, increase taxes. Yeah, good luck!

 

The only need at all for debates are to choose the democrat/socialist candidate.

The difference between America First & Prosperity and the democrat/socialist party are so clear there is no need at all for debates.

But somebody will probably give a debate even though few people will watch. There is no need to watch. You already know all you need to know.

Yes, he stumbles over words sometimes, but that isn't new. He overcame a severe stammer when he was a child. Ask anyone who has done that ... it isn't easy!

 

I don't think he could tackle any of them without resorting to personal insults and name calling. On the actual issues, he's ignorant, and mostly just makes stuff up on the fly. He won't risk being challenged that way, in a public debate. He's a coward.

 

I am happy that you feel the way you feel. I am hoping that at least some democrats are as sure Trump will lose this time around as they were last time. I thoroughly enjoyed the shock and awe videos from election night for months afterwards.

 

A official document has surfaced now, which confirms investigations into Burisma and Hunter by the Ukranian government, that involves Hunter in money laundering, millions of dollars.
That pretty well destroys any argument that Trump was trying to damage Biden as a candidate; their was already strong evidence of corruption. Obama was aware of this and had an extensive inquiry into it- which of course, Obama wasn't pursing or making public. The actual documents were shown on the story, this isn't rumor.
