So roughly 10 to 40 times more deaths here then in China.

And people say you over react..

There is a lot of real estate between "Contained" and "inevitable" No need to start a stampede just yet.

“We have contained this, I won’t say airtight but pretty close to airtight.” - Kudlow.

We are in what the administration is calling the "containment stage" of the virus, which is the context of what Kudlow said.

Sec. Azar said today during House Budget Committee testimony that the people who have tested positive are being forced to be hospitalized because we are in "containment stage" while we find out more about the virus. He added that most of the people being held today do not have severe symptoms which would normally require hospitalization. They are requesting budget for additional masks, gowns and other equipment for the medical community, plus test kits. He expects to move from "containment phase" to "management phase" fairly quickly, where people with mild symptoms will be asked to isolate at home and won't require hospitalization or treatment.

Yes, there is. Kudlow should not have said this thing is contained. Do we agree on that?

That's better than what I quoted, but he's still going to regret that. "Pretty close to airtight"? Two weeks from now, that's going to look real foolish

You're reaching here, esp. with Trump also going against his own CDC. Kudlow didn't mention "containment stage". He clearly said "we have contained this". There was clearly an administration strategy to downplay the significance of this. That's going to look really bad pretty soon.

Oh, I have no problem with the fact the Deep State -er- career professionals know what's going on and are working on it (although that whistleblower story that's going around...) It's the Trump Administration that looks clueless.

Fair enough. BTW, I live in So Cal and am prepared for a big earthquake. Those who worry about an outbreak should gather supplies and not wait for the government.

Well, I'm glad you have a crystal ball to see a different future than what the experts and the president are telling us.

When the administration says that we have the virus contained, they don't mean that they are not expecting the virus to spread some, or that it will just go away. We just do not know how much spread or how severe yet, because no one can predict the future with certainty.

"Containment" simply means we are forcing people who test positive to be hospitalized for the time being and restricting travel.

"The risk right now is very low to Americans," Azar said during a Wednesday morning hearing of the House Committee on Appropriations' subcommittee on labor, health and human services, education, and related agencies. "From a public health perspective, we are technically in a state of containment in the U.S."

Azar, meanwhile, said that Trump was "expressing confidence in our public health infrastructure. He is trying to calm the American people."

Media and Democrat leaders are not helping at all. They've turned the virus into a political weapon....like everything else.

The same crystal ball the CDC has. But seriously, do you think now, at this point, we're going to get through this unscathed or with trivial loss of life? It's everywhere now. It's pretty virulent, and it kills old and sick people. This will be like a severe flu going through the country, accept it's a SARS virus, so a lot more people are going to end up hospitalized. You'll see.

So they expect it to spread some? Then it's not contained. Come now, those are clearly contradictory things.

Kudlow did give himself some "breathing" room, with the airtight comment, but mark my words: he's going to regret that. If not, I'll add a sig to my avatar:
"I totally blew the Coronavirus out of proportion. Trump was right!"

I don't see how some of you think this isn't going to be a major problem. After China, and Diamond Princess, and S. Korea, and Iran, and Japan closing schools, and Italians panic buying, and the market crashing...Do you guys think this is all made up? That we're God's chosen, so it can't happen here? We had a bad one of these in 1917. They happen. This one is obviously going to hang around for awhile and get people sick.

Yeah, we do. This story didn't break yesterday. And now we have data that doesn't just come from China. This thing has been slowly but surely making its way around the world. What, you think it's just going to stop?

It would be nice if the Trump Administration could articulate what they mean, like the CDC does. I don't know what you're arguing here. Are you claiming Trump and Co., have been honest with us? It's the CDC that's wrong? Really??? No. People are going to go with the CDC, and they won't need to soon. It will soon be obvious that it's widespread. We don't have nearly enough testing kits.

Again, my beef is not with the consummate professionals. It's with the Trump Administration disputing it's own CDC. But it won't be disputing CDC for long.

The CDC is part of Health and Human Services. I'm going with what Sec. Azar says, which is that there is no need to panic at this moment. The virus may spread quickly (or it may not), but it's less dangerous than SARS. The CDC is saying "Be prepared."

Nancy Messonnier gave a "worst case scenario", and of course, the bloodier the meat, the better the headlines for media profits and partisan political gains.

Dr. Messonnier appears to have a rather alarming "bedside manner". The panic revelers are hung up on a couple paragraphs from her to the total disregard of what many others in the administration and medical community are saying.

    Calmer heads will prevail.

Well, we can hope. Maybe it will mutate and the mortality rate will be next to nothing. I will happily eat a lot of words if my dad doesn't have to worry about this.

This "outbreak" is nowhere near as dangerous as ebola.

Redfield is the Director of the CDC. Messonnier is head of one branch....she works for him.

CDC Director Robert Redfield told Capitol Hill lawmakers Thursday that Dr. Nancy Messonnier’s
statement Tuesday belied the fact that risk remains low.

“I think what Dr. Messonnier was trying to say — I think it maybe could have been done much more articulately from what the American public heard — was she was trying to say it’s also a good time for us to prepare if we have to go to more mitigation,” Redfield told a House subcommittee.

He added: “We’re still committed to get aggressive containment, and I want the American public to know at this point that the risk is low.”

Exactly. That is a statement form the news outlet, not the govt. Even the news outlet realized it was a smoke screen.

They roll the dice and guess as to which flu virus will flare up in a particular season.

iirc the effectiveness last flu season was 19%. But Mama said something is better than nothing.

With that being the case if you paid $40 for your flu shot they should give you a refund of approximately $32.
