Trump declares national emergency to combat coronavirus, authorizes waiving of laws and regulations

Yes, twofold.

The declaration of National Emergency allows the Executive Branch the ability to relax rules and Laws in the name of expedience. Namely, FDA regulations and underlying U.S. Code that dictates drug to market protocol. The President can now authorize human trials of drug therapies without the lengthy process required by law.

Secondly, with many whipping up panic and hysteria, the President can act quickly to quell unrest if it presents itself. The President can now authorize the Federalization of the National Guard and the use of the U.S. Armed Forces within the United States and ORDER their action. Ostensibly, the need would be focused on immediate delivery of relief supplies, medications etc with the ability to commandeer roads, vessels and aircraft etc as/if needed.

It also gives the President to control media access to the public. At this point if the President or his assignees want to use CNN to broadcast information (propaganda) to the public CNN is compelled to oblige.

This help? I think it's using a sledge hammer to squish a bug but that's on congress, they should have foreseen a pandemic and narrowed the powers available. We'll see better more defined legislation coming out of this next year or so.

Well, you may be right. The 51st American to die from Coronavirus was just reported. She was an 82 year old with emphysema from New York. So a woman with an underlying chronic disease that alone is a major cause of death among the elderly lives past the average age for her gender contracts the Coronavirus and passes away. Yea, that’s a cause for panic.

This situation is very serious enough to justify declaring a national emergency. The panic and hysteria overwhelming warrants one. Hell, just read some of the post in this forum. Go to any grocery store and watch people with carts full of toilet paper. I had no idea that a side effect of Coronavirus is mass defecation.

This election is a toss up - and only because Blue has done nothing but "Bad Trump" for 3.5 years - The Hillary Strategy lives on.

I give the edge to Blue on the basis of the demographic time bomb. Blue won the popular vote in 2016 - barely - but - this was with how many Anti Establishment Bernie Supporters sitting on the sideline - and in general she was a terrible candidate - so condescending and obnoxious that many Dem women do not like here - although voting holding their nose.

Throw Black support of Biden in with Latino Support of Sanders - and get these folks out to vote - and Red has a very tough hill to climb.

That is without corona - with corona ? this could mobilize voters - as the pandemic should have subsided - if not - that is a weird card - impossible to predict.

My guess though is that corona and the market crash should it persist helps blue.

So are you agreeing with Iranian Monitor that this initial response was “truly pathetic”? Because with everyday that passes more and more health professionals are attributing this one act as the defining factor of why the US has such a low infection rate compared to other countries.
