At the moment its on the rise but who knows where its going to end up - there are rumours today of London being closed. Schools are closing in Wales and Scotland. Most people seem to be working from home and the shops are empty so its all fun and games....

London I hear is the worst of the UK at the moment. Public transport is being reduced but people are concerned that this is going to stop care workers, NHS workers, grocery delivery drivers and other needed workers from not getting into work

How are posters here who live in London finding things?

The first response of a Government is to look after its country and protect them from aggression - whether that aggression is a foreign opponent or a virus. I have just been answering that with someone with regard to Iran where the Government will not bring in these bans but the Revolutionary Guard want them brought in. In this instance I believe the Revolutionary Guard is correct. If people doing what they want risks other people's lives then they do not have that right.

I am aware such things can be abused but I do not believe this is the intent of the French Government. Even Germany has been saying it may do the same if people do not start doing as 'suggested'.

I am sure I heard that people were staying away. Obviously if a lot of people are out and about that is a very good place for spreading a highly infectious virus.

On one level I am quite looking forward to the Summer. It looks like it will be a bit of a retreat. My daughter has decided all her family will be self isolating and brought them out of school a couple of days ago. She did this on the first day of her maternity leave so was in a position most people are not. However it means we can all see each other pretty much without any possibilities of getting the virus and as I said like a retreat.

Lots of things you can do which normally you could not. Have a think.

That's exceptionnal circumstances, usually, going outside don't threaten your life of the one of other people.

No much has changed. Lots of young women trying to avoid me but that has been happening since I was a teenager. Yesterday's London Evening Standard has eleven bloody pages on this nonsense and provided no new information and merely confirmed that as a free sheet it is grossly overpriced.

As an oldie I don't know if I am supposed to avoid the kids or they me. The other day a toddler kicked a ball in my direction. I got up, kicked it back and fell arse over tea kettle, whereupon the mum came up and, standing at a safe distance, asked if I was alright. I was about to say that I would be a lot better if she gave me the kiss of life but thought better of it.

TFL are being a bit foxy. Night buses and trains are for folk going to or working in theatre land and such. There was never that much demand and I suspect that the management was happy to knock them on the head.As for the rest, I can't see any difference in the public transport system. We all moan about it but it works well.

Overall this Peking Pox is a lot of fuss over sod all.

Saw I think Kings X on the tv last night. It was all but empty but you're right choosing what to film and when can give a wrong impression. Nonetheless London seems to be the worse which is hardly surprising.

I think kids can infect just like everyone else. I think they get infected just usually not badly so they are more of a risk to you than you them.

I started working from home today but London yesterday was deserted...I mean seriously empty other than few idiots like me that went in but mostly its only a few couriers and building security. All the coffee shops, pubs and sandwich shops are closed. I go from Cannon Street home and at 5.30 its usually rammed with commuters but yesterday it was empty - I get a 12 carriage train which is standing room by the time it leaves but yesterday had the carriage almost to myself.

According to DW news, the UK now has 20,000 soldiers on alert. Interestingly they refused to come in in the 2011 riots.

Oh I was just meaning that British things will be much cheaper for us than foreign ones now. Sorry to hear that. I guess it depends on when you are going to retire but I am not sure things are ever going to go back in any way to what they were. People are talking about this taking up to two years to sort out - and then you have the climate emergency. Meanwhile Trump is talking about giving 'help' to the 0.1%. Weird times.

The UK outbreak should be over in a few weeks.

So far the government has responded to Xi Jinping's rain of infected snot by evoking the Dunkirk Spirit and inconveniencing the public as much as possible under the guise that something useful is being done. Folk will put up with it for a while, but with the schools closed and the kids driving their parents mad, no footie to argue about or pubs for a soothing draught and sex banned because no one is allowed to get within touching distance of anyone else, there is bound to be a backlash. In a couple of weeks Boris will commission a secret poll and discover that folk are fed up with being glum, particularly the ladies who will have discovered that the only result of the masks they wear is a face full of snot. He will then announce that a miraculous cure for the bug has been discovered and I can stop wiping my backside on the London Evening Standard

Just heard a suggestion as to the reason for Germany's large numbers of infected but few deaths. Obviously the first thing people were talking about was its very good health service but now they are saying it did massive testing. That would allow it to isolate people and give help early. However they are saying they expect deaths to rise. A lot of countries now are only reporting those in hospital. Obviously with early testing more of those in Germany will likely become more ill and apparently they are expecting a rise in the deaths.

South Korea another country with a lower death toll also did massive testing as well as giving patients the drug the US is thinking of starting to give its people -no surprises that drug is now sold out in US pharmacies!

New cases in Italy in the last 24 hours 6,557, New deaths in the last 24 hours 793

Total cases 53578 Total deaths 6,557

Italy was hoping to see things improving by now after their lock down. They are still increasing. Lets hope that changes soon.
