This is TRULY a "You Haven't Lived, Unless You've Heard This" sort of song.

Went to the liquor store today and stocked up on rum. Much more important than toilet paper if you ask me but thankfully the shelves were fully stocked.

Wicked Jam, at least in the parts Steve isn't singing his inane bs poetry about the low spark of high heeled boys, wtf was that have supposed to meant? Lyrically so vague but brilliantly a beautiful jazz rock piece of work, more-so if ya knock out the bogus crescendos that only detract from the piece.

Sorry, thanks for the link and apologies for my opinion, I've not an ounce of Steve Winwood's talent.

Ha! If you can state your opinion in a knowledgeable way, you are way more than welcome to critique anyone you want.

I don't know what they were thinking when they wrote the lyrics, but my take on is that it refers to how we put so much importance on small things that seemed so important at the time,
"We were children once, playing with toys."
And the music we couldn't stop shaking and rocking our heads to was not quite as supernatural as we thought. The musicians were not quite the gods we thought,

"And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound of
The low spark of high-heeled boys"

And all that we hold so dear is little more than a consumerist wet-dream, and all that we want is what the merchants want us to want,

"The percentage you're paying is too high a price
While you're living beyond all your means
And the man in the suit has just bought a new car
From the profit he's made on your dreams"
All the glitz and glamor we're so focused on just doesn't add real meaning to life. We're those wannabe's from the 70s who tacked metal tacks on the heels of our cowboy boots just to make a show and impress all the other peacocks was just showy strutting. Maybe that's why you don't like the bogus crescendos.

But I do like the music overall. I like way it draws my attention out the window and focuses me on all the nothingness of clouds siding past. That's my spark of inspiration from the song. And that's so out of sync with music.

    That song was Winwood's ZENITH.

Undeniably his Greatest Ever, and nothing else even comes close.

I don't know anything about this person. This performance was twenty-two years ago.

How can such a one stay sane?

For some reason, I can't make the link work. Wait, or skip, twenty seconds.

These are my 2 Fave Lines of the Lyric:

If you had just a minute to breathe and they granted you one final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?

If I gave you everything that I owned and asked for nothing in return
Would you do the same for me as I would for you?

Love the songs you love, no problem, but the lyrical meaning in this song just seems to me to be missing. Unlike for example, these lyrics:

There I was at the immigration scene
    Shining and feeling clean
    Could it be a sin?
I got stopped by the immigration man
He says he doesn't know if he can.
    Let me in,
    Let me in, immigration man,
Can I cross the line and pray
    I can stay another day
    Let me in, immigration man
I won't toe your line today
I can't see it anyway. Hey hey
There he was with his immigration face
    Giving me a paper chase
    But the son was coming
Cause all at once he looked into my space
And stamped a number over my face
    And it sent me running
Won't you let me in, immigration man
Can I cross the line and pray
    I can stay another day
Won't you let me in, immigration man
I won't toe your line today
    I can't see it anyway.
Here I am with my immigration form
It's big enough to keep me warm
    When a cold wind's coming
    So go where you will
As long as you think you can
You'd better watch out, watch out for the man
    Anywhere you're going.
Come on and let me in, immigration man,
Can I cross the line and pray
Take your fingers from the tray.
    Let me in, irritation man,
I won't toe your line today
    I can't see it anyway.

Graham Nash is a good songwriter.

Here are a couple lines from one of his buddies:

    Pa send me money now
    I'm gonna make it somehow
    I need another chance
You see your baby loves to dance

    Lullabies, look in your eyes
Run around the same old town
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you
