Handy tips for living the Corona life

Life has changed. More and more I am being careful about the potential of bringing anything contaminated into my home. I disinfect everything I bring in now.

But one easy trick if you can wait and it doesn't involve perishables, is to buy what you will need and leave it in the trunk of your car for 3 days. By then if there was any contamination, it should be safe.

One expert explained that standard washing does kill or remove the virus from clothing. So when I have been in a public place, anything I'm wearing out goes directly into the washing machine when I get home. I have to assume that my car seat or other parts of my interior could be contaminated if I drive more than once every three days.

Goes without saying that I disinfect and or wash any parts of my body that have been in contact with anything outsider of my home - in a store, ATMS, credit card readers, etc. If I've been out for more than a fast stop I assume I've been exposed - it could be in my hair or in my ears, on my face, on my hands - and take a good shower.

 

Interesting hint that hasn't been generally recognized: A nurse who was among the firsts to face this in Kirkland, WA said that in addition to the cough, everyone she saw had red around the eyes - like red eye shadow. Not red eyes, but around the eyes. She said one person showed up with red around the eyes, showed no other symptoms, was sent to the hospital, and was dead shortly thereafter.

She didn't see any runny noses.

 

I am limiting trips into stores. When I do leave, i grab my hand sanitizer from my saddlebag, BEFORE I touch my handlebar grips.

 

An expert from the CDC was saying that it is effective to use 70% or greater alcohol and wipes to disinfect items such as cells phones, wallets, etc. HOWEVER, it is critical allow the item to air dry. DO NOT wipe it dry or rinse it off.

If you wipe it dry or rinse it off, you could kill everything but the most resilient viruses.

She didn't say this is a good idea. She said this is critical.

 

A little overkill in my humble opinion but do what is right for you.

 

Let's see, the CDC or you. Hmmmm, who in the world should one listen to? It's a freaking mystery.

A little balance maybe? Your regimen seems a little overkill.

 

I think mine is the reasonable amount of caution, unlike a video I saw, a package was delivered, it was opened with tools and medical coverings, it was then sprayed with a disenfectant, and so on...and left on an outdoor porch for three days.

 

I heard one medical expert mention the rule of thumb for washing your hands: Wash vigorously with soap and hot water for the length of time it takes to sing the Happy Birthday song in your head twice. Be sure to get between the fingers and under the nails.

 

I'm willing for this to go on for a few weeks a few months in hope of finding a vaccine, but if we haven't found one after 6 months the economic (and therefore human) toll worldwide will be far in excess of the estimated 70 million deaths if the virus hit every person at once.

I don't care about the economic toll because of my bank balance, I care because of the human toll a devastated global economy will wreak.

I also think we need to be extremely insistant, starting now, that none of these emergency measures are subject to the usual government ratchet effect and retained after the crisis. This is imperitive because they ALWAYS keep some measure of totalitarian emergency powers after each crisis.

 

The first rule of pandemic economics [there really is such a thing where the economic impact of pandemics is studied] is that you can't save the economy until you control the virus. It is fallacious to think the economy is just going to tick along during a global apocalypse.

I heard this today from experts in this subject. And it is fairly self evident. No matter what the government says, if people are dying by the millions, you aren't going to go out for dinner or go to Disneyland.
