Why can’t we have a stimulus package without everyone’s pet projects?

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/thehill.com/homenews/senate/489021-mcconnell-excoriates-democrats-over-stimulus-demands?amp

McConnell went off today on the pork the democrats wanted in the stimulus plan.

    Early voting?
    Same day voter registration?
    Solar Panels?

There is also 50 million for the national Endowments of the Arts & another 200 million for Infrastructure repairs to the Smithsonian.

    The arts ? :roflol:
The Green New Deal ? :roflol:

Whenever they have Pet projects that won’t get approved, they attach it to an important bill. They do this because their pet projects would not be approved on their own merits.

All senate democrats voted against the stimulus package today because they didn’t get their pork.

    Excoriates, not exonerates.

    Same day voter registration.
    Carbon emission reductions.
    Minority banks.
    US Post Office debt.
    Performing Arts.
    Obamaphones.
    Student debt forgiveness.
    Blocking deportations.

These are just some of the things in Rep Pelosi's Coronavirus stimulus plan. Democrats are using the urgency of this epidemic to ram through completely irrelevant portions of their agenda that would otherwise never pass in the current Congressional makeup. Any other day of the year this is just how the game is played. But during what is quite literally the largest world-wide crisis in generations these people are standing in the way of relief because of what amounts to "free ****" programs. Democrats are going to get hit hard on this come November, very hard.

Some of the socialist agenda items the DNC is trying to force into the bill:

    1. Expansive tax credits for Solar and Wind Power
    2. New emissions standards for airlines
    3. Increased collective bargaining powers and bigger cutouts of Unions
    4. Required same-day registration and early voting
    5. Bailout Postal Service for Union pensions and student loans
    6. Retirement plans for community newspapers.
    7. Publication of Corporate Pay Statistics by race and race statistics for all corporate board members. Also require all companies receiving assistance to raise their minimum wage to $15/hour.
    8. $1B for a cash for clunkers program for airlines.
    9. $1.5B to study climate change mitigation efforts civil aviation and the aerospace industries.
    10. New OSHA regulations for Hospitals
    11. $1B to build on Obama Phone program.
What they are blocking to get them:

    1. Direct payments to the American People. ($1200/person, $2400/couple, $500/child)
    2. $350B for small businesses
    3. $250B unemployment insurance
    4. $100B Hospitals
    5. $4.5B CDC
    6. $11B for vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics and other preparedness needs
    7. $5B for FEMA Disaster Relief Fund
    8. $1.7B Strategic National Stockpile
    9. $12B Military
    10. $20B Veterans Health Care
    11. $12B K-12 education
    12. $6B higher education
    13. $10B airports
    14. $20B public transportation relief
Winston Churchill said, "Never let a crisis go to waste." The DNC has embraced that with gusto. When Churchill first made the statement, he was talking about FDR, Stalin and himself coming together in a common cause. The DNC, on the other hand, is using the concept to force socialism on this country. In this cause, the GOP is pushing to allow a little extra socialism on a temporary basis to get us through this crisis, but the DNC is looking to push for permanent socialist changes to this country. Pathetic!!!!!:boo::angered:

At least we all know what they'd try to do if they won the election.

But even the MSM was roasting them for what they're doing. I was quite surprised when I saw CBS calling them out yesterday.

Not that Biden is a strong candidate with his mental capacity failing, but his platform and supposed appeal is that he is a "moderate", someone who can work across the aisle, get agreement with both Democrats and Republicans, and unify the country.

By trying to cram every single partisan plank of the left-wing platform into this "urgent" temporary relief bill, Pelosi and Schumer have completely trashed the Biden campaign's messaging. The people are watching.

My city shuts down at midnight, and there is no guaranteed financial relief for the "working" class who can't work tomorrow or the next day or the next. Republican and Democrat Senators had an agreement on Sunday before Pelosi opened her mouth. Now it's Tuesday. Tick tock, Nancy. Tick tock.

Kinda like cable TV. To get the programs you want, you have to pay for a bunch you don't. But to do this in a national emergency is contemptible.

Because since the ungodly precedent set by Obama, they believe everything is all about them.

Socialists just want power by any means necessary. The way they look at it if thousands of Americans need to die in the process then so be it. Wake up folks! The dem party needs to lose all power across the board.

I haven’t seen any reporting I trust on the dispute between Dems and republicans on the bill. But if Dems are really trying to shove in a bunch of stuff unrelated to the current crisis, that is shameful.

We're likely to get zero package now.

On Sunday, the Senate had agreed on sending out relief checks in the mail to workers (and extra for children) and spending a lot to make sure businesses stayed in business so that when this is over, people have job to return to. Pretty simple.

Now Nancy trashed all the Senate's work and is insisting on writing her own bill and is throwing everything and the kitchen sink into it that Democrats want, while ignoring Republicans. McConnell probably won't even bring it up for a vote....which will of course, make Republicans the "bad guys" again in a few days. That's okay. They're used to taking the blame for everything since well before Trump.

Although, as is usually the case with legislation, "stuff unrelated" is in the eye of the beholder.

Especially, give this current legislation, which truly puts a dagger in the term "fiscal responsibility".

if "deficits don't matter", then why should the Businesses (and the Fat Cats) looking for a Government Handout get the biggest share of the Windfall?

    McConnell has a BINARY Choice:

    Give Pelosi What She Wants
    OR
    Get Nothing.

McConnell needs to face Reality and get it done.

Thank you for the entire post, but especially about Churchill. It underscores how deplorably perverse democrats are, for one thing.

    The Senate Agreed? So What?

it still has to go to The House to be Reconciled and Voted upon.

The Senate (Run by the GOP) Agreed?

So what? That means absolutely NOTHING (Unless the House Also Agreed).

    Congress 101.

As far as "No Bill", that is squarely on McConnell.

Bargaining chips. All politicians do this. "Okay, I'll take the solar power and the jetliner emissions off the table if you'll include congressional oversight on that $500 billion in corporate welfare."

I won't pretend to know what is in the minds and hearts of the Dems. But I do know that when negotiating, you leave room to compromise. Perhaps that is their intent. In order for the GOP to remove the corporate bail out portions and the Mnuchin control, the Dems threw in 'pet projects' that they are also willing to remove in the negotiation...

Like the half a trillion in the bill that is left up to whims of a proven fraud? Oh, wait — that was the Republican bill.

Guess you forgot what reconcilliation is... And that's what Schumer is fighting, ie, against the american people, for. The Senate probably can force the house dems in a box and deliver on a bill. But Nancy is out of control these days. Must be off her meds...

I understand the voting items, especially if this continues on much longer. I also like some portions about first responder day care and healthcare additions — the rest needs to be scrapped.

Add those provisions to the Senate bill, remove the 500B slush fund that only has oversight by the president*, and the six month clause to hide who gets the money and then pass the bill.

    Good luck with that one.

Anyway, There is one thing that EVERYONE AGREES On:

    McConnell 100% OWNS this Standoff.

Mitch just needs to man up and get it done.

    McConnell handled it perfectly.
Go to a microphone & let the American people who will be voting in November know why the bill failed & list the crap that the democrats tried to stick in the bill.

I would rather get nothing than see that democrat pet project bill disguised as a stimulus package pass.

Letting the American people know why the bill did not pass is sufficient.

This is a time of crisis, not as USA Today describes... A liberal Christmas in March.
