Hopefully the 2+ Trillion dollar plan that just passed will help get us and the newly unemployed through this. System has been crashing for people filing because of the unusually high traffic so its expected to be high next week as well.

This was obviously gonna happen after the admin in an unprecedented move to combat the Chinese virus, essentially shut the nation down for business.

Admin, State, Local Officials. Its hard to say when things will get back to normal for everyone with big and small Government officials all on a different page.

this isnt a surprise. next weeks will likely be bigger.

getting people ON unemployment isnt the concern, but rather how stubborn they will be about getting OFF unemployment. there will be far too many that will prefer sitting home and getting paid.

As we saw after the Obama/Democrat stimulus and expansion of unemployment benefits and liberalizing work requirements 2009. Compare that to the Republicans policies late 1990's and mid 2000's. Many Republicans warned and voiced their concerns about these provisions in this bill but not worth the fight at this time. It will take the Republican taking back the House and retaining the Senate to roll that back once this is over else we could face another Obama/Democrat recovery meaning not much of one.

"The Labor Department attributed the surge to COVID-19, the respiratory illness caused by the coronavirus."

    :roflol:

Sounds like that came from the "No ****" department.....

Best of luck, newly unemployed Americans...

Well it's passed the Senate. Senate Unanimously Passes Coronavirus Relief Bill—Someone Should Check on Granny Boxwine.

“Pelosi engaged in some of the most shameless politicking for personal gain of her career, and that’s saying quite a lot. She's gambling with people’s lives. This should be a permanent stain on her career, but the thoroughly evil Fake News press is no doubt working on ways to run interference for her.”

The 2008 tanking was under Democrats, they took the Congress a year before the recession began. And yes it took Republicans taking back the House then the Senate and the the WH to fix it.

She presents this inane false narrative that it is either we help people or we help corporations. It is NOT an either or but BOTH. And that if one penny more is used to keep businesses liquid than to pay aid to individuals then it is a corporate bill that "sacrifices" workers. Total partisan politicking.

Let's hope they can get rid of the provision that pays people MORE in unemployment than they were making working, that is one of the things that created the worst recovery in modern history after the 2009 recession. It's GET PEOPLE BACK TO WORK.

There isn't a chance in hell that they will be able to remove that provision and still get enough Democrat votes to pass.

We don’t actually have the worst ruling class in history. For example, there was Caligula.

So you blame Republicans for Covid19? Care to discuss the economy where Dems enjoy a super majority during times of calm?

I only personally know two people that have so far lost their jobs, 1 is a hairdresser and her hubby makes good money so they will be fine, #2 was supposed to start his new Job this past Monday (Retail) and he's down for an indefinite period and possibly might not get the call to come back until retail ramps up 100%.

His savings is probably about 3-4K total, that won't last long, He might be double screwed since he quit his last job and didn't officially "start" his new one, so I think unemployment is not going to help.

The list of people I know will grow quickly, I assume.

Best of luck to everybody! The DOW is back over 22K today, so that's a solid bounce back this week (for those seeking decent news, such as myself), but I'm guessing your friend with only 3-4K in savings isn't part of that...

That's their big "go to" move.

Senate Passes Coronavirus Bill, While Pelosi Gambled With Americans’ Lives and Lost.

In the wee hours of Wednesday evening, the U.S. Senate finally passed the $2 trillion coronavirus stimulus bill after a great deal of Democrat stalling and a futile effort by Nancy The Ripper to put forward a separate bill jam-packed with liberal Christmas wish-list items. The bill provides crucial relief to businesses struggling with the social distancing strategy of stopping the spread of the coronavirus. It now heads to Pelosi's House.

The stimulus bill's passage unmasked Pelosi's tactics as a disgraceful waste of time during this crisis, following her Impeachment waste of time as the Chinese Virus was in the early stages of the Chinese Virus invasion. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) slammed the speaker for her attempt to jam her liberal pipe dreams down Americans' throats in the midst of a crisis.

"Democrats wanted to use the coronavirus response package to change election law & implement parts of their Green New Deal. The Senate just passed strong bipartisan legislation that scraps those items, & it’s clear. ⇨ Their delay achieved nothing but more pain for Americans," McCarthy said.

No worries, it will be over by Easter and everyone can go back to making money and the bailout won’t be needed.

Abject nonsense. There were no jobs for those people to go back to. It took several years for the Obama administration to undo the republican caused recession and job loss.

This argument has been completely destroyed. The recession was directly caused by republicans killing every single bill attempting to regulate fanny/freddy from 2001-2007. And no, republicans taking back congress had no impact on the recovery. You can not point to a single piece of legislation they passed to support your claim.

80% of Americans live pay check to pay check, so the stock market doesn’t mean much to them anyway.
