Ok Squirrel... My response answered a specific question. It demonstrated a governance process that would be entirely lacking in gen pop..
I said electoral system. I'm not aware of specific issues with the EC in practice (though in principle it's a little weird ). I was think of things like gerrymandering districts, voter registration, distribution of polling places, voter ID arguments, immigrants voting, all the money spent for candidates via third parties to avoid spending restrictions and reporting, electronic voting issues... the list goes on but none of the politicians are interested in actually improving the system, only in playing with the flaws to their own advantage. That's why I think you need a properly independent organisation to deal with all of those things, everything from districting through to declaring the results.
Every district is "gerrymandered" its probably the most overused word in politics. Voter Registration is easy.. Heck you check off one box when you get a Drivers license or a State issued ID and you are registered. Illegal Immigrants can not vote ( legally) You just had a Progressive post a campaign add from a Super Pac as evidence.. Ironic eh?
What you have against squirrels? Sniffing dog would totally match your avatar as would kitty cat mine
I share everyone's concerns around maintaining vote integrity under a mail-in ballot system, but these are challenges that can be worked through and overcome. We needn't dismiss the entire proposal because of these perceived risks. Questions: Does every registered voter get a ballot mailed to their home address? How do we ensure ballots are not intercepted and tampered with at any point in the process? How do we know the ballot was filled out by the intended recipient? What measures can be put in place to ensure only those eligible can register to vote? Side note, I don't expect the media to be overly enthusiastic about such a proposal. They love overly dramatized election night coverage, exit polls, etc.
Ask the people who had mailed in their votes for all the primary candidates who dropped out after they had already voted. What's wrong with going to your polling place and executing you civic duty?
"“In terms of the elections, I think we’ll probably be moving to vote by mail,” Pelosi said in an interview on MSNBC. “That’s why we wanted to have more resources in this third bill that just was signed by the president, to get those resources to the states to facilitate the reality of life: that we are going to have to have more vote by mail.”" Where does the Constitution give the federal government, the Congress, authority over state and local election procedures?
Whether or not the public is able to vote in the upcoming election makes no difference. The president of the united states is chosen by the electoral college, not by the popular vote. Whether or not the public manages to vote, it does not matter as they are ultimately engaging in a useless practice that has no bearing on the outcome. Their votes literally amount to nothing in this matter, and the next four years will be determined for them.
I agree, we need to prioritize emergency pandemic relief, but as long as it's not taking away critical resources, why not start thinking about these things now?
After the big Hillary defeat, the democrats are afraid of an honest election. They will do anything to win this election. Same day voter registration No ID needed to vote. Mail in ballots Illegals voting Best of luck Pelosi, you won’t have the votes to override a Trump veto even if you get it past the senate. I don’t trust the RIno’s but there are Not enough Rino’s to override a Trump veto.
It seems as soon as we moved to vote by mail, it seemed harder and harder for Republicans to win in Colorado. I know that Democrats harvest these ballots and in that last two general elections, tens of thousands of votes for democrats all come flowing in at the last hour, mostly from Boulder, funny how that works. I have zero faith in the results from Colorado anymore.
This should terrify Republicans, could you imagine if everyone voted that was eligible instead of just a few demographics?!? The horror.
It has nothing to do with that most people dislike Republican policies — it is definitely a conspiracy or fraud. Like what happened in NC — oh wait — that was a Republican...
Voting by mail is far more secure than electronic voting, so long as the ballots are kept until the election is uncontested. I say we replace all electronic voting machines with mail-in ballots.
This should not even be up for discussion prior to August, if they want to premise this on the virus...
No thank you I want to put my ballot into a properly calibrated tallying machine and see it successfully counted.
I cast a paper ballot in my electronic tally machine and those ballots kept for several years after the election. I don't want to give my ballot to a third party to cast it for me.
Do they count it right there at your local poll? Most often, even ballots from polling offices are transported by 'third party' to a more centralized location for counting, right? Also, isn't the programmer of the machine and its associated network basically a bunch of 'third parties' transporting(trasmitting) your vote? Why would you trust that more than a person delivering a package? Seems to me its way easier to hide digital fraud than physical fraud.
