So you're choosing not to respond to any of the things I said? No haircuts for 9 months? All salons and gyms permanently out of business?

Integrate the area under the curve like an educated person would. You are wrong.

    The virus is widely disseminated.
It's taking care of itself despite the useless mass hysteria, while tens of millions of "essential" workers continue to interact.

I'm choosing not to prolong a back and forth that will not see agreement.

But I will respond to your opinion that I believe these businesses should shut down permanently. Of course I'm not suggesting that. I simply believe that it is too early to be opening businesses that - at the best of times - spread germs. Gym goers will not be carrying disinfectant with them - they are simply wiping down with towels. Over and over again. And what will happen to those nail technicians who don't want to risk their own health? Will they be out of work for not going back this soon?

It's all too soon. That's all. I want the country back in business as much as anyone - but I don't want to see a resurgence that will keep it closed much longer in the long run.

On this planet, you either work or die.

The virus is widely disseminated despite everything we've done to harm ourselves in the process.
Continuing this will do nothing to change the fact that you will be innoculated, or have already been

The shutdown was to flatten the curve so hospitals are not overwhelmed. Anyone who thinks we can’t open the economy until Corona deaths end is a moron.

Again, one has to take into consideration the political factors. If the nation's economy remains wrecked and the Left's Mainstream Media can blame that on Trump in spite of it being the Left overtly trying to keep the economy from restarting, then even senile Joe Biden has a chance of winning the presidency. Thus the Left's mania for everyone permanently cowering at home while the economy finishes crashing and burning. That's the political aspect behind their endless panic. Oh I have no doubt that many of these leftists ARE in an endless panic attack since historically that is what they DO. But cynically manipulating that panic is their leadership and leftist-allied Mainstream Media with their . . . political . . . considerations.

Barbers and hair stylist can wear mask and people can wipe down gym machines that have been spaced farther apart before using them.

Basically you are saying keep these businesses shut down until there’s a vaccine so just say it. Be honest.

    Translation:
The life of ONE person is more important to you than preventing the economic and societal collapse of the United States.

How many lives do you suppose -that- would take?

Literally nobody is advocating all social distancing measures be abandoned, and you're ignoring the social mayhem and deaths resulting from this induced recession.

Seriously where are people getting these straw man arguments from? What leader is saying just go out there as if nothing has changed? Who? Can any of these people quote a single leader saying we shouldn’t be taking precautions while reopening the economy? CNN and NBC or whatever kook blogs people are reading have to unplug. It’s fracking dangerous for their health and their arguments come off as so naive and ignorant. It’s pure propaganda and lies. What is the matter with these people?

I don't even think it's merely partisan politicization at this point ---- I think the mainstream media has some people genuinely terrified.

Plus, I think the allure of staying at home and waiting for government stimulus checks and the new unemployment $600/week bonus windfall has pushed people exactly where the left wants them ---- lazy and dependent on the government. I wonder if some of these people will ever want to go back to work, or if they think they can just cry "but Coronavirus!" forever and expect the government to take care of them. Just like that, a whole new segment of the population has been infected with the welfare mentality.

I'm seeing people in their 20's, 30's, and 40's playing the "but Coronavirus!" card. Nevermind that this demographic has a nearly 0% chance of dying from the coronavirus unless they have pre-existing conditions, and if they follow all of the precautions they also have a nearly 0% chance of catching coronavirus and spreading it to anyone else.

I worry we will look back on 2020 as the year the coronavirus took the work ethic of half of America's workers and replaced it with welfare mentality. Will we ever be able to claw our way back from this?

Wrong this approach assume infinite care capacity in the system, is not about how many get ill / infected. It's about how many of those can be treated at once, think of it this way, there is only one doctor two people are bleeding to death only one person survives, two doctors both people survive.

    Understand yet?

Draw what pretty bell curve you like, but those people in excess of critical care capacity will die, if you need a ventilator and then is not one available then you die. Thats the reason behind flattening the curve.

Enough capacity everyone gets treated, some people die, some people survive depending on mortality rate.

Not enough capacity, all of those above the line can't be treated and will die, those below the line some die and some survive depending on mortality rate

Right now, several months into this fiasco, the "doctors and scientists", the "experts" are about 0-3 with their scary predictions coming true.

Take it with a grain of salt. There are future budget funding matters at stake, and the bureaucrats will protect their turf.

Josephwalker - well known member and mind reader!

No - I'm not saying that. Opening up businesses that are so intimate - ones that don't allow for social distancing - in the first wave is ridiculous.

My retirement plans have now been destroyed. My financial future (like most others) is extremely uncertain. But I am hoping that cautious re-openings will be effective long term. I'm fearful that gunblast openings will cause a re-emergence and it will be worse, economically, in the long run.
