My wife got a government check today for $1,200.00. We did not apply for it. We do not want it. We have signed it over to the church.

We are not at all comfortable accepting money that was taken by force from good people.

I am proud of my Denise. The first thing she said after she opened the envelope was "sign it over to the church". I didn't quite understand what she was talking about until she handed it to me and I got to see for myself just what it was. What a woman! As long as I live up to being her husband, I'll be a good man.

You could have just never cashed it at all if you really feel that way. Just sayin.

I’m glad you have those principles and relied on them to make your decision.

That tells you how much thought and effort our congress put into any of this.

Ultimately you still accepted money that was “taken by force from good people”. You just happened to give that money “taken by force” to someone else.

Excellent decision. We have continued to send money to our church as we can; at least what we would normally have given anyway for each service we would have attended.

Actually he simply redistributed some of what he and his wife spent a life time of paying for anyway by way of federal taxes. It's just that for once it went where a couple of taxpayers WANTED it to go.

Churches around the nation are already benefiting from this redistribution as they pay no taxes but are able to get grants and low interest loans under the CARES act. If the money was sent in error (not saying it was or wasn’t) then it wasn’t theirs, or the churches.
Cashing a check not meant for the recipient is a form of financial fraud — hardly something to claim a moral superiority over.

    Shrug, to each their own.

Nope, no signature, just his name...
Was definitely worth holding the checks back for IMO although they missed the asterisk after the president part.

The church will spend it just fine, I wonder if it is one of those mega churches — bet they need a new G7...

We did. Do you have a better idea? Should we have given it back to those who took it from the good people?

Being good comes naturally to Denise. I can hardly give her credit for it. It's too easy for her. Most of us are trying to be good. Denise just is good. It's like cheating.

How about doing what you did but keep it to yourself. Your need to tell everyone about it speaks volumes about you.

I don't think thats entirely fair. All other forms of government assistance get sifted through uncountable layers of bureaucray before they're divied out and still find their way to the wrong people, dead people, people that don't exist... this one was deliberately and necessarily fast tracked. I don't think anyone was reasonably expecting it to be done so without some cracks.

Oh, you think I created a fake check to... wait, what would have been the purpose?
Did I also hack the AARP and secret service websites?

Conspiracy forum is a few threads down.

    That's it? That's your beef?
There are seven billion people in this world. If you can't be happy for anyone but yourself, you are limiting your potential happiness to 1/seven billionth of what it could be. And believe me, that kind of limitation shows. It comes through.
