We already know what he will do if the government makes face masks a legal requirement. He'll still refuse to wear them. Because he thinks that he only needs to obey laws that he approves of. That's why he under-reports his income because he feels that the government is charging him too much, so he evades taxes. I guess it must be really manly to live with a mindset of me first, who cares what happens to others.

We each have a personal responsibility to pick and choose which laws we obey because compliance with law is no excuse for being complicit with what is evil, immoral or just plain wrong.

 

Wearing a paper mask to protect oneself from a virus makes about as much sense as getting under a school desk to protect oneself from a nuclear bomb. People are doing what they're doing because their TVs are telling them to. They are not thinking for themselves. It only takes a moment's thought to realize that paper face masks does nothing to filter viruses.

I had an emergency call out at 6 am. Afterwards the customer shook my hand and thanked me for coming out on a Sunday morning. He then apologized for shaking my hand and offered me hand sanitizer. I thanked him and declined. I told him that "I am not participating in the panic."

Well, some people are more susceptible to media induced terror than others. Gawd knows there has been a full court press by the media in terrorizing the masses for these last few months.

 

Following the above criteria, a "real man" considers the well being of his family, friends, and coworkers first and foremost, and does not do anything to put them at risk of harm through their own poor decisions, and does not seek to validate their own opinion at the expense of the well being of others. Along with not judging others in how they conduct themselves, so long as said conduct is not hurting anyone.

In short, uncomplicated, easy to understand terms, the conduct described on the part of yourself in the opening post, on passing judgement on others based on preconceived notions, was not the conduct of a so-called "real man" at all.

I don't think that you and I measure ourselves, others or the world around us the same way. I would have not turned in a runaway slave. I would have not turned in a hiding Jew. I would not be a part of a great deal of even what our own government does to this very day. I am well aware that moral impunity is not legal immunity; but if everyone looked at it your way, we would still be an English colony. The law, and therefore you, will in some measure change tomorrow. I may or may not change tomorrow; and if I do, I will decide - not the law.

 

Jails are full of people who used their "morals" and "reasoning" in place of laws

 

That would make sense for an airborne virus, but CV is said to be moisture-borne, so a paper mask should be better than nothing.

They can't tell a window from a screen. Whatever comes over their screens is as real to them as what they see out their windows.

 

You're conflating judgement with condemnation. In my experience those who assume that others condemn everything that they don't condone are themselves without tolerance. They, themselves, condemn everything that they don't condone, and they assume that everyone else does also. Furthermore, they are those most likely to claim that they don't judge.

Don't be indiscriminant. "I don't judge", is not a noble claim. Good judgement is a learned and perishable skill. Those who do not exercise good judgement are those most likely to condemn everything that they don't condone. I condone very little and condemn even less. I judge all things and merely tolerate most of it. On average, I condone about 2% of stuff. I condemn about 1% of stuff, and I merely tolerate 97% of stuff. I can tolerate watching someone run away from a fight or wear a set of gloves and mask while alone in their truck buying beer, but I'll never look at them the same way again either.

Virus are very small. A virus would have an easier time passing through a paper mask than you have passing under a bridge.

People aren't wearing masks because they've thought it through. They're wearing masks because their screens told them to.

 

Wear your mask. You're sick. LESS bugs will pass through it than without..and they won't go as far

Do I have the right to veto laws that I don't like as well? I don't like that I, as a non-citizen can't vote. Maybe I'll go to the polling station in November and tell them that bricklayer said you can pick and choose which laws are relevant to you. I wonder how that will go?
