Let’s talk about the vice of humility. The false virtue of Christianity and a valuable weapon the left uses to whip Christians in any argument. What does it mean to be humble? To be subservient, to lack pride and to show little importance to the self as to denounce all egoism. It means to be altruistic and weak and submit to any purpose of the collective is to be humble. To kneel. Your humility. It’s the perfect tool to beat down any of your ideas about family, justice and independence you throw at the left. After all since you are being humble, why can’t you be humble to the greater good. Don’t give your money to God, pay more taxes. Don’t fight your enemies, kneel before them. Don’t demand justice for wrong action, take a knee and have a “conversation”. Humility is not a virtue. It is a vice! Pride is a virtue! Why as Christians do you willfully hand the left the very weapon to be used in your own destruction. Is it because God demands it? Perhaps you should let it go.
since when does paying more taxes serve the greater good when we buy bombs with that money and blow up brown skinned people?
It serves the “greater good” when the collective nation deems it so. Since the American Christian is the one coaxed into paying the taxes out of duty, he is the one being hoodwinked. I’m not sure if you’re getting the point.
Seems like a pretty narrow understanding of humility. Humility puts pride in context, without it, pride is likely just be self-serving bias and hypocrisy. Humility is to understand that other people understand the world differently to you, which is very important when it comes to dealing with people who don't agree (either with each other or with you). But yes, it does seem like the Bible commands humility. You don't strike me to have given a good reason to throw the new testament out.
Captain Obvious, Could it be that you misunderstand the New Testament doctrine of what it means to be "humble"? The Founder of Christianity, the Lord Jesus, demonstrated perfect Humility and at the same time He also demonstrated that He is a Warrior that will fight against His enemies and destroy them. A Word-Warrior and A Military Warrior See {2} and {3} below: ________________________________________________________ {1} First, let's establish that He is gentle and humble. "Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.___Matthew 11:29 ~ ~ Add {4} below to the above ~ ~ ________________________________________________________ {2} Second let's establish that He is an Aggressive Word-Fighter. Mathew Chapter 23: The Lord Jesus talking to His enemies: "Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when you have succeeded, you make them twice as much a child of hell as you are. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of the bones of the dead and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? ___The Lord Jesus in Matthew chapter 23 ____________________________________________________ What the Lord Jesus said up there in Matthew chapter 23 cannot be reconciled with your definition of Humility in your Opening Post. {3} Third, let's establish that the Lord Jesus will physically destroy His enemies -- that the Lord Jesus is an action Warrior-Fighter. Start quote. All this is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment. And so you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering. After all, it is only right for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you, and to grant relief to you who are oppressed and to us as well. This will take place when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in blazing fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will suffer the penalty of eternal destruction, separated from the presence of the Lord and the glory of His might, on the day He comes to be glorified in His saints and regarded with wonder by all who have believed, including you who have believed our testimony. End quote. 2 Thessalonians chapter 1 So? So the Lord Jesus, the Founder of Christianity, is: {A} gentle and humble . . .and at the same time {B} also an aggressive Word-Warrior against His enemies.. .and {C} also an aggressive physical Fighter-Warrior against His enemies. * The Lord Jesus does fight against His enemies. * He does not kneel before them. * He is not subservient to His enemies. * He is not weak before His enemies. * He does not submit to His enemies. * He does demand justice for wrongs. * He does not "take a knee." __________________________ {4} Nonetheless, even though {2} and {3} up there are fully true, the Lord Jesus was willing to submit Himself to death on a cross to pay for the sins of humanity. Philippians chapter 2 Start quote. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature a God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature b of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. End quote. Philippians chapter 2 `
Swensson, if you have an interest, give me your thoughts on my post to Captain Obvious, just above. I'd be very interested in reading anything you have to say about my {1} {2} {3} and {4} up there.
I just can't get past your strange dichotomy of Christians versus "the left," as though there were no Christian liberals/progressives/Democrats/et al, and no right-leaning non-Christians. Talk about oversimplification and divisiveness!
So, when the coaches and drill sergeants told us to take a knee and listen to what they had to say they were using it to whip Christians?
Doesn't seem that way to me at all. Seems to me he doesn't want "Christians" to be at all humble (nor "altrustic and weak") toward "the left." Seems he doesn't want Christians to kneel and talk to the BLM protesters and wants rather to stoke division by encouraging Christians to be prideful rather than humble and regard "the left" as an enemy who is being handed a weapon "to be used in your own destruction."
Humility is about self-awareness, not self-denial. Pride without humility is self-delusion: nothing more than enshrined intellectual myopia.
