Barr tried to get rid of Berman, head of the SDNY.

    It backfired on him.

But this demands context. For over a hundred years, SDNY is the district that made it's goal to be the best, and completely non-political. It is sometimes called the Mother Court, because it got going a little before the Supreme Court. Few know it outside the law, but SDNY is special.

Berman refused to step down, and while Trump fired him, Berman won the negotiation. By law, the replacement is the deputy, in this situation. But neither Barr or Trump has shown respect for the law. If I had to guess, I'd say Berman had a card to play, perhaps something to do with obstruction of justice charges.

"It is telling that we do not know which of many possible investigations may have triggered Barr’s ire. There are so many to choose from."
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/06/21/friday-night-massacre-that-backfired/

The timing is the key. Just over the last several days, things have been going extremely badly for Trump. In my distinctly unhumble opinion, he wanted a corrupt crony to get in there, and do as much as he could to keep Trump out of jail after he loses.

I saw a law professor say that this wouldn't be the end of it.

Trump's house of cards is falling. He knows his reelection efforts are missing the mark bigley. He's just preparing and rigging the system for his eventual ouster and criminal prosecution.

Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we lean but to deceive.

Well... we do have to remember that many of the investigations that were left open by Mueller were transferred to the SDNY. And they are still ongoing. Junior's lies about the Trump Tower meeting, and how much he really gave or got, for example, is still very much an open issue. As is Donald's involvement in the coverup.

You mean, of course, not Mueller, but whoever wrote the Mueller report.

Sure.... whatever you say. You seem to think I care about Mueller... Mueller is a Republican. I only care about what is in his report.

Which is no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russsia. And that obstruction is damn difficult to show when you are given literally everything you asked for.

Oh and there currently exist no evidence at all that Don Jr. Lliedd about the Trump Tower meeting and the Russian adoption lawyer if that's who and what she really was has long since disappeared.

272 contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia linked operatives.... But that was already explained to you, wasn't it?

None of which amounted to anything because the Russians by their own admission were never able to get a handle on how the campaign operated. And more than a few if which were fabrications, happened years before Trump even announced he was running or as in the case of Carter Page as a result of his work for the CIA.

They amounted to collusion. Whether the collusion worked or not, accomplished anything or not, amount to anything or not,...is a different topic. But collusion did happen. Arguing that it didn't exist because it failed makes absolutely no difference.

    No it didn't.
    No he didn't.
    Yes they have.
    You don't.
    No he didn't.
    Evidence free fantasy
Yes. The day before Berman was fired he refused to sign a letter blasting NYC's double standard on religious gatherings. You may love double standards and refusing to grant the first amendment right to peaceful gatherings depending on whether you agree with their politics, but such a mindset has no place as a US Attorney.
    It's over.

Barr: DOJ has 500 investigations into rioters and destruction of statues. “Barr said his agency was using 35 joint terrorist task forces across the country to investigate criminal activity, which has taken place since the Memorial Day death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man. “

Apparently it's a moral victory or somethin'.

HEH: According to Ted Cruz, Attorney General Bill Barr Is the Honey Badger.

During an interview on “Verdict” with Ted Cruz and Michael Knowles, Attorney General Bill Barr provided some frank answers on several issues. Whether it was riots, big tech censorship, or why he took the job, his responses were direct and his priorities unmistakable.

    Riots and Monuments
The interview opened with Barr answering questions about federal law enforcement agencies’ role in addressing the unrest and lawlessness that has been occurring nationwide. Barr responded that federal action is taken after the fact. It is up to state and local leaders to prevent these crimes from happening.

He did note that when the violence began at the end of May, the thirty-five Joint Terrorism Task Force teams were activated nationwide. These are cooperative teams of local, state, and federal agencies that are built to deal with terroristic threats.

Barr shared that these teams are conducting investigations and cranking out indictments. Citing scores of indictments and arrests for crimes such as arson and destruction of federal property, Barr stated there were at least 500 investigations underway.

When asked about evidence of coordination in the riots, he confirmed this is part of the picture. Barr stated anarchistic groups associated with the antifa movement are acting as provocateurs among legitimate protests. He also confirmed there is coordination close to the event. Often the day before or the morning of, law enforcement is seeing:
    • Communications between groups
    • Organization among the members
    • Pre-planning of activities
    • Pre-positioning of materials
When asked about President Trump’s tweet about federal monuments, Barr said this is not a change in policy. Since the local response is lacking, the federal response has been stepped up.

Senator Ted Cruz: “So if you attack a monument on federal property you will be prosecuted?

    Barr: “That’s right”

He said the attack on the monument of Andrew Jackson in Lafayette Square is already under investigation and that the penalty is ten years in prison.

You have a great fantasy life.

Barr didn't get the guy he wanted. Instead of having a Trump ally like Berman, in that position, there is a Democrat.

    Spin that.

Your missing a key fact. Geoffrey Berman was not appointed by the President. The Obama appointee Preet Bharara refused to stepdown after President Trump's election. It is a tradition that all the political appointees resign a change of political administration. Yet, Bharara refused to comply with that tradition. So, President Trump was forced to fire him. The Congress refused to approve the appointment of a replacement. So, a panel of liberal activist judges appointed Geoffrey Berman. Some believe that there was a deal that he would not cancel the fake investigations that Bharara initiated. They should have been cancelled, because they were clearly politically biased and based on fake assumptions. Instead, Berman allowed his political biased attornies to run the office while he sat ideally by.

Berman's refusal to rein in the political biased prosecutors was a valid reason to fire him. Remember he was not appointed by the Trump Administration. A US Attorney appointed by judges are only supposed to serve temporarily until the Congress approves the Administration's choice for US Attorney. The Congress' refusal to appoint a US Attorney for the SDNY was intending to force the Trump Administration to accept Berman.

The claim that Barr blew it is a fake news narrative. Barr asked for Berman's resignation. But like Bharara. he refused to resign. He felt his appointment for a was valid for the entire Administration, because he was appointed by judges. Notice that he was ignoring Federal Statutes that states that he appointment was supposed to be temporary. So, Barr fired him for his refusal to end the fake investigations. The end result was the fact that Berman is no longer the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York. I am not sure what you liberals is claiming was a screw up. Because the end result was achieved.

BTW, you claimed that the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York has been unbiased for the last 100 years. But that too is a liberal false narrative. During the Obama Administration, the SDNY became as (if not more) biased as the 9th District Court of Appeals.

    You oversimplify.

Trump asked Preet to stay on, Preet agreed, so the question is, why did Trump change his mind.

While it is customary to replace prosecutors, it's quite unusual to do it the way Trump did.

Berman's underling took over, instead of an appointment by Trump (oops, I mean Barr). He took one for the team.

Except that Barr conceded that he would accept Strauss as the successor instead of his hand picked replacement.

Mueller ended his investigation with a report that there was no evidence that anyone, including Donald Jr, Jared Kushner, and Paul Manafort did not collude with the Russians. The investigation included the meeting at Trump Tower. Natalia Veselnitskaya wanted to meet with the about meeting was to discuss the adoption of Russian Orphans. What Thay did not know was that she had met with Fusion GPS that funneled the funding to Steel for his fake dossier. So, the claim that the meeting was not what Donald Jr and Kushner said it was is another liberal false narrative. Just like the other fake narratives that you love to quote.

What we really need to remember is that Preet Bharara initial a lot of politically biased fake investigations long before Trump was elected. Geoffrey Berman was appointed by the liberal activist judges, and the DNC controlled Congress refused to allow a Trump appoint to the SDNY to be approved. Berman was fired so the DNC controlled Congress would be forced to approve a Trump Administration Nominated Appointee.

That is probably true. The Administration could then appoint a new Nominee to the position if, and when Trump gets reelected.

Nothing wrong with Democrats. But, if this particular Democrat also does not respect and demonstrate a commitment to the equitable application of law and regulation, Barr and Trump will shitcan him too, let there be no doubt about that.

    We are ONE People,
    With ONE Law,
    Applied WITHOUT Favor.

Anyone in the Justice Department that is not on board with that, well, there's the fkn door.
