The Republican party has always been the party of individual freedom and that hasn't changed. But somewhere down the line the Democrats switched from supporting descendents of the Confederate state to being completely against it. Republicans have grown to support the people. Why the switch?

Republicans fans of freedom? When did they celebrate the Real Levellers and when did they stop corporations buying their vote?

This is a gross oversimplification. The republicans were never about equality during the civil war and long after. They were for white, Christian people, but not many others.

Democrats were broken into two camps, pro and anti slavery. Neither were about equality then either.

Many of the southern dems abandoned the party over the years and switched to the GOP where states rights and the opposition to federal laws gave them cover for their racism.

The simple answer is this: racists have no ideology other than racism. What party they belong only depends on whose politics advances and protests to their racist beliefs.

When LBJ got his Civil Rights legislation passed in the 1960's the once solid South of the Democrat party suddenly became the solid south of the Republican party as they did complete race issue reversals. In the early 60's, prior to the legislation, southern whites were shipping loaded bus loads of blacks all over the North for permanent residence there.

As far as I understand, Democrats betrayed their voters in the south by passing the Bill of Rights.
That was the point when people on the south flipped the sides.
Interestingly enough, it benefitted them greatly as it significantly reduced racism. True republicans didn’t run to democrats, it was the other way around. And it was republicans who were anti-slavery.
If you think republicans are racist then ask yourself - why is it that when CNN published a story about a county in Washington exempting minorities from wearing masks Republicans were so outraged? Republicans were pushing for bill of rights 60 years ago, they fought for it and now they are pissed when desegregation is being reversed by the Democrats, who resisted it on the first place!

There's a bit of a error in this. Republicans don't support the Confederacy or even those that believe as the Confederacy did. They do however support keeping history out in the open and people being able to express their beliefs without being "cancelled". Republicans believe in individualism. Democrats believe in group. That has never changed. Think about it.

Republicans supported ending slavery. They did so based on blacks being individuals. Democrats on the other hand supported keeping slavery because they thought all blacks the same and considered the whole group to be nothing more than animals.

Republicans supported the Civil Rights Act, again based on blacks and minorities being individuals. Democrats could only see the group.

In the present Republicans still argue for individuals. Individual responsibility for instance. Democrats of the present argue mainly from identitarism. IE: Groups.

The Republicans and Democrats of yesteryear are really no different than the Republicans and Democrats of today. Their core is still the same. The only difference is in what they argue about and how they go about achieving their goals. But in the end the ends of each are the same today as they were 200 years ago. Republicans still believe in the individual, and the Democrats still believe in group.

Both parties owe their hearts and soul to corporations, wall street firms, lobbyist, special interests, mega money donors etc. That's where they get their tens and sometimes hundreds of million of dollars to run their organization and campaigns.

Hillary raised and spent 1.191 billion on her run for the president in 2016. She certainly didn't get that much money just from 5 and 10 dollar donations. FYI, Trump raised and spent 646.8 million.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/politics/graphics/2016-presidential-campaign-fundraising/

You may rail about corporations, which you have every right to. But Hillary received 118 million from Wall Street Firms to Trump's 38 million, she also received 44 million from lobbyist to Trump's 2 million. Let's face, both parties are bought by big money.

Just do a little research regarding "Nixon" and "Southern Strategy". Be objective and comprehensive....because right wing wonks have a serious case of myopia about this.

There is no switch. The democrats are still the masters over the the Black community. The democrats are still the racists party. The GOP are still the party for civil rights

The democrats were against Blacks. The GOP passed the 13th and 14th amendment while the democrats voted against it

Then why did the GOP recently vote to dismantle Civil Rights amendments?

It is not that we Republicans supported the war, we support the right of the people to vote. Speaking for myself of course.

The war was very complex. Most Democrats present if as a simple notion.

    1. The South made the North have war. ?? Far too simple.
    2. The South voted to remove the states that left. Very simple. How did that happen. The part not reported is that the citizens of a number of states voted to stay or to leave the former union, is how they saw it. 7 states peoples voted to leave.

And did. Abe commenced war on them as he got an army up and going.

I just did a search on what you said here, just omitting the "recently" part of what you said. I couldn't find a thing on it. Perhaps you can link to your claim?

That is like saying today that due to Trump, Democrats flocked over to the Republican. We will see that tested in November.

That's why they just passed the biggest bailout in history.
tRUMP is giving away more money than anyone ever. And he is trying to buy more votes.
He wants yet more free money.

And all those idolizing the Confederacy vote R.
History is in books and museums.
You want to idolize Nazi flag and Hitler for history?
