And you very well could be right. But we spend much more effort trying to prove what doesn’t cause it than what does.

OK, but I don't see evidence of that. Autism is a really big deal, and my understanding is that it is complex - maybe a little bit like cancer in that it is multifaceted, not just one lone problem.

It's true that science spends a lot of time that ends up showing that early ideas have been wrong. But, that's how science works. Examination comes up with ideas of how something works, then it gets put to serious testing.

Scientists have been working for 100 years to see if the theory of relativity holds water. The fact that eveyone believes it does has not stopped the effort to find *****s in it's armor. Most of science is not a matter of coming up with the answer and then being done. Science is permanently checking itself every way possible.

Seems like there may be a number of causes, from the literature and research.

But it is clear it is not from existing vaccines.

Not really. If a dumb ass like me can do it, there really aren't any excuses for others who have simply failed to prepare.

Isn’t that interesting. We don’t know what causes it but we damn sure know what doesn’t. Yeah right.

OK, so let me see if I understand this. A drug that costs US$3000ish for a full course (less for the government bulk buy version) is now available. This cost is not per pill, but for the full course. This will likely save lives and vastly more money than it costs in reduced treatment costs.

This is surely an unalloyed good worthy of a hearty cheer. Yet this thread seems to have no cheering. No matter how much I try to stop overestimating humans I am always having to re-calibrate downwards.

Plandemic. Gilead will do very well thanks to this hoax. I really hate to say it, but Trump was right in describing it as a hoax. Wrong word, but right idea.

You realize that science is simply a sophisticated way of gaining knowledge by trial, error, and observation of same?
We know what doesn't cause it because we thought "Hey maybe this causes it, let's spend a **** ton of money, time, effort, and sacrifice seeing if it does!" Then when we set up the experiments that should prove that hypothesis we got data indicating the thing we were investigating wasn't related. So we would announce "Having done the math we can now confirm that our hypothesis was wrong because of what we learned yadda yadda yadda". That's science. That's how it works.
Until someone is finally right some time, we'll only have a list of things we were wrong about causing autism not a list of things that certainly do cause autism.

In the UK there was a report of people who had "recovered" from the virus having strokes. Apparently the virus is making blood "sticky". There was another report where it stated that the virus was capable of creating tube like projections coming out of the host cell capable of injecting neighbouring cells through which the virus can travel to infect neighbouring cells bypassing any antibodies produced by the body

Something I wrote on April 1st. "I remember too well the hype of tamiflu for swine flu, and the later discovery of the money trail that lead to Donald Rumsfeld. Tamiflu was purchased by governments all around the world during and after the hype and never used"

The link : Tamiflu and Remdesivir is produced by the same company

And something I wrote on 16th April "Has anyone else noticed that Gilead Sciences Inc is making the news again?. The same company that Donald Rumsfeld made millions from on the useless Tamiflu sales. And what else are they selling, remdesivir, the same drug that Trump was also promoting"

And today it has been announced that the US is buying every production of Remdesivir

Similar connections exist for hydrochloroquine, too. It turns out not to be at all surprising that Trump caused the USA to buy large quantities from the primary producer.

    Gouging ?
From the OP link you obviously didn’t read.

“Gilead has said it spent about $50 million on research and development related to the drug in the first quarter, or about 4.5% of its total R&D spend. Through the end of 2020, Gilead expects to spend more than $1 billion on developing and manufacturing “remdesivir, Mr. O'Day said.

Yes, creation might be expensive - especially for drugs that don't already exist and thus haven't already gone through creation, testing, etc.

But, that doesn't answer whether there is gouging going on.

The market for COVID remedies and vaccines is gigantic and growing. We will see whether there is gouging when we see what they charge.

    It is "very interesting" indeed.

Hundreds of thousands of children have been worked on very close for signs for autism over long times of study, from birth, and millions more of children around the world reviewed of concern about autism, and there is ZERO evidence of autism associated with routine childhood vaccines.
those childhood caused any evidence of Autism, it would be unavoidable.

The constant litany of anecdotes of babies until they get a vaccine and now they are sick is simply that - anecdotes. With or without vaccines injected, autism rate stays the same among those children.

But the liars and BS artists and inadequately educated who blame "vaccines" without cause are doing the disservice to children's health from all the legitimate and already known causes for these issues, like lead and other poisons, poor and unhealthy nutrition (more common and growing day by day!), poor education, abuse, and so much else, trying to let our country's lack of care for children (and themselves) is a handy way for "vaccines" to be a devil while our "devils" trash America's children.

For those still obsessed with the 'big Pharma is evil' angle on this, the company has licensed production of a cheap generic version for over 120 nations. It has also donated a stockpile to Australia (and possibly other nations) to cover their immediate needs until production can cover the initial US order.

Governments can also issue compulsory licenses to either produce the drug themselves or buy it from cheaper producers.

    https://www.theguardian.com/austral...ias-medical-stockpile-after-us-buys-up-supply

It strikes me that if this is an evilBigPharma company that is apparently prepared to manipulate media, governments & scientists on a global scale in order to profit from COVID it is doing a seriously poor job of maximizing profit. Shareholders should be livid.

"Unalloyed" is perhaps overstating the case.

SOME of the very worst cases may have a chance to get a reduced time in the hospital, but the chance of death is the same.

So some reduced treatment costs, but no reduced deaths. A good thing, sure, but not "unalloyed".

Sadly, the agreement with the USA is that the USAs the "good deal" lasts for a 8 weeks or so and then sky is the market!

Their ability to manufacture is not even adequate supply for the millionaire's in China, or the oil areas like the Saudis, and many others.

Sadly, this opens up for the principle that America can shut down the rest of the world (not necessarily a bad thing!) in exchange for a very short time.

The USA is doing less and less in these kinds abikity, and the rest of the world is doing more and more. In a very short amount of time, the USA could easily claiming a share of someone else's drug and the rest of the world will laugh as the expertise, the raw materials, the manufacturing, and the ability to buy for the USA to get these medicines will simply fade away.

    And already are.

    Cool!

So Americans get to pay $3000+ for this drug, but Australians and some other countries get it FREE!

I think we elected the wrong guy to be negotiating the "Art of the Deal" in the USA.

Maybe we can draft the guy from Australia, or even from Canadian, to do these deals, and "deal" our deals for tariffs and military hardware too!

People I know are having to be $500 insulin and $600 emergency bee sting kits, while the Canadian costs are a quarter the costs or almost nothing.

Except our president solved the spending of cheaper drugs from other countries (same drugs) by made it illegal to personally import! With friends like him, who needs enemies!?

Selling a $6 dollar manufacturing cost drug for $3000 is a very good business. No evidence it works. Anecdotal evidence on studies of Remdesivir shows it is less effective than the cheap dexamethasone studied in controlled tests and which most hospitals worldwide already stock. The hype of this drug is mirroring Tamiflu, at least Tamiflu was cheaper. Guaranteed sell of 500,000 in 3 months just to the US is great business, what happened to the Hydroxy orders?

Gilead is getting 70 million of public money to develop this drug. They are being given fast track that would allow it to come to market years sooner than other drugs (saving tens---hundreds of millions) and they have a huge guaranteed market....and they're charging 3500 per person for it...

You don't have a problem with that?

Fine but don’t assume gouging just because prices are high. They have over a billion dollars invested to recoup.

Australia lives under our military umbrella for free too. Should we send them a bill?

    Obviously.

But, price gouging cases have very clearly taken that well known fact into account. In general, drug companies have been given major protections by government - protections other companies do not get.

By enactiong exceptional protection of drug companies from capitalism, government does acquire special responsibility for rational drug pricing.

I think they should be sued for price gouging during a pandemic. They have recieved a massive amount of donations and there is no reason they should be charging thousands of dollars for a single pill. We need to fix our healthcare system and the way they overprice treatments because sick people will pay.

    Yes!

The major problem is that health isn't a legitimate "product" under capitalism.

Capitalism does great work with a huge percent of what we purchase. But, the reason is that customers get to choose.

Can you imagine what a TV would cost if there were only one brand and not buying it would actually cause you lasting physical pain?
