Don't quit your day job! I don't see repartitions happening anytime soon. Also, if they only tried to get it from descendants of slave owners then it looks like some black people will have to pay repartitions too and like more than half of America are descendants of immigrants who came here way after slavery ended in this country. Also, the descendants of people in Africa that sold slaves to Americans for BOOZE should have to pony up some money as well. You can't put this all on whites!

I would support some sort of class action "damages" (reparations has become to political hot) awarded to survivors of Jim Crow laws which were not wiped out until 1964-1965 with the Civil Rights Act and Voting Rights Act. Those pieces of legislation technically ended "systemic racism", but there are living black people who were negatively affected by Jim Crow segregation.

How anyone would put a dollar amount on the class action suit hurts my brain to think about at the moment, but say that anyone who was working age or voting age (18?) in 1965 gets some sort of damages reimbursed. Set a birth year, (1947?) and earlier for blacks, who were American citizens during those years, and who are still alive today, to qualify.

Such a settlement to older black Americans who were harmed could start a chain of inherited wealth to younger generations, depending on the amount of the settlement.

The difference is time. No living black person was ever a slave. No living white person ever had a slave. In my case, my family wasn't even on this continent until the 1920's.

You aren't getting a penny from me, nor should you from anyone else. What about the African blacks who sold their own people into slavery and owned slaves themselves? You going to try and collect from them too?

Who is going to pay it? Jim Crow wasn't everywhere and not all blacks lived in Jim Crow states.

Just stop. The slaves who are owed are dead as are the slave owners who owe. You have not been done an injustice. Your great great grandparents might have been wronged but you have never been a slave.

Ah, well, that is a valid point. Jim Crow laws were state and local, not federal, laws. That makes "who qualifies" more complex. Reparations to Jim Crow law survivors are still more justifiable and would be far less complex than the idea of federal taxes paying all who can prove they descended from slavery which is not a "fair" request, since most American's ancestors immigrated after slavery ended and because there were many white abolitionists in America who spoke out loudly against slavery since this country was founded.

It is amazing that this kind of thing is coming from those on their side of the aisle who seek to replace them and our system with different ones. The politicians are falling for it. The political environment has made it impossible to have competent politicians. Perhaps we should let Antifa and BLM to change our system, fail at it and get to some other form of normality.

How about them? When and how did they receive reparations. Sorry you are going to have to earn your way like the rest of us.

The people getting restitution were alive during Holocaust. They actually suffered directly.

Because I have never been a slave owner. Nor have any of my poor Irish and Scottish ancestors.

Having included slavery in America = debt.
Having hundreds of thousands die in the resulting war slavery made necessary = debt paid.
Slavery was ended. The generation that did it paid the price.

Were you alive during Jim Crow? Treated less than a normal human being, denied the rights that white citizens enjoyed, should I go on? Smfh.

I don't see it either, the hatred for black folks in this country is still too high.

The problem with that is what exactly?

Why should the folks in Africa pay for what was done to black folks in America?

There are still families and companies in this country still thriving which started off the backs of slaves.

I don't remember asking you for one.
What about them? What was done to my folks and me happened in America.

Slavery is not the only injustice that black folks have suffered in this country. What was done to them was passed on to their children for generations.

America's wealth is not due solely to slavery. Most of Europe had slavery for far, far longer than America did. Hell, Africa had slavery longer than America did and that entire continent is largely impoverished.

There are many black folks alive today who suffered through Jim Crow, lynching, etc. What is going to be your next excuse?

By asking for restitution from the government, you are asking me. The American government does not have one penny that it does not first take from someone else...including me.

What was done to your folks STARTED IN AFRICA, perpetrated by Africans. Don't you dare point the finger at millions of Americans whose ancestors were as likely to have fought against slavery as to have owned any and ignore the culpability of African ancestors. That is just being intellectually dishonest. If you are going to hold to that position, I have zero respect for you or anything else you have to say.
