Some folks can't seem to understand they live in glass houses. The other houses know better.

    Damn! Nice house!

Any proof some whites are the owners? Or just want us to assume Lucifer is known to tell the truth?

My white self does not live there. You want us to assume that blacks cant live there?

This reminds me of a phrase I have heard..."the soft bigotry of low expectations".

So you MISSED the STARK DIFFERENCES between regular Christianity and White American Christianity, Cy?

If you cannot understand them when the COMPARISONS are pointed out then that EXPLAINS why you are struggling to understand the INJUSTICE issue. You are not alone as far as this is concerned but it appears as though you cannot appreciate that what white Americans believe to be Christianity is NOT what Jesus actually preached and practiced.

Let me put this another way, Jesus is on the side of the BLM protesters!

Now ask yourself WHY that is where he stands?

Getting past that BLIND SPOT is proving to be a much greater hurdle than I anticipated.

I will admit that I presumed that once it was pointed out the light would go on and then we could directly move forward to the need for dealing with the INJUSTICES.

Turns out that I am WRONG about white American Christians being able to see that light.

Little wonder that the problem of injustice is so intractable.

OK, let's have YOU take a crack at it... show us one (ONE) place in the Holy Bible where there is anything even CLOSE to being an advocacy for "White Supremacy". Nobody else has been able to, but maybe you'll be the 'special guy' who finds it after all.

    We'll be waiting....

Oh, stop it, Te! Now you're going to pretend that you know what 'side' Jesus is on...? :roflol: Honestly, I never expected to see you write a thing like that, given what you've said your personal beliefs are.... Jesus is on the side of mindless, groundless, anarchy, violence, and putting other people on 'guilt-trips' for partisan political gain...? THEN WHY DIDN'T HE SUPPORT THE JEWISH REBELLION AGAINST ROME?

Don't try to pontificate about Christianity, Te. Honestly, you can speak with eloquence and passion about a variety of other subjects, but it grows more obvious with every one of your posts in this thread that when it comes to what is actually in the Holy Bible, you are quite out of your depth....

I've already asked you several times, " "OK, Te... what do you propose that "Christianity" should do to ameliorate the damage of "White Supremacy"? I won't try to 'load' the question, but merely ask you what you think should be done in the year 2020 to avenge this wrong. You've got the floor...." But, so far you haven't written anything that is relevant to your assertion that Christianity promotes and/or inculcates "White Supremacy" in its followers. If you'd like to make a cogent, responsive reply, please do... otherwise, I'm through with this thread.

    After all,

[IMG]. Obviously, the horse has its own idea of what 'water' should be!

Not to be a nit-picker, but Twain didn't say that.

The quote may not be totally precise- but he IS credited for it many places on record. Of course your having been there personally through time-traveling psychedelics or something would probably be the most reliable reference, right?

And of course, it is still an accurate observation regardless of where it came from.
Could be King Solomon said it first..... and Twain plagiarized it.

Wait, you actually think because any particular church says they are Bible-based, that all of them automatically follow the Bible as it is written, with no room for interpretation?

First time I ever heard of that.

No, no, no -- the allegation was that CHRISTIANITY was shaped by "White Supremacy". The thread topic: White Supremacy Shaped American Christianity, Researcher Says

So, what have you got? As I asked you in my Post #107: "...show us one (ONE) place in the Holy Bible where there is anything even CLOSE to being an advocacy for "White Supremacy".

Got nothing...?! Well, join the purveyors of 'white-guilt'-club...because, so far, neither does anyone else who has made these ludicrous, baseless charges against Christianity. If it ain't in the 'book', it ain't in Christianity! But, if you can find it in there, you'll have done what no one else has so far....

If your point is that there were slave-owners who were Christians, back in the 1800's -- in America, in Great Britain, in France, etc., etc., then start a new thread and hammer away from THAT standpoint, if it amuses you....

Sure. Then slavery was shaped by black supremacists. No slavery without blacks selling slaves to white people. When will Africans pay black Americans their much deserved restitution:)

Thank you.... The radical Left often likes to forget that black-on-black African slave markets is where the rest of the world bought negro slaves in the first place! What religion did those black SLAVERS practice?

How did you know I was a Time Traveler?! I didn't mean my comment in a negative way. I have this hard-to-resist habit of looking up quotes like that. The earliest text reference to the quote (thought not verbatim) is in the Bible. Maybe Solomon did say it. There is no text record of Twain saying it, but he may have. I'll have to travel back and find out.

I'm an Atheist, but you can warp any ideology to justify whatever you want.

Christianity, for all its flaws, and for all its evil adherents, is really very supportive of the oppressed. It is liberation ideology. Plenty of African Americans and other non-whites find meaning in it.

I think the bottom line is if you're a Christian who is not a white supremacist good on ya, if you're a white supremacist Christian maybe drop the white supremacy part lol.

The OP lost me when it was suggested that the U.S. adopt anything similar to South Africa. South Africa's crimes against its black citizens was far, far worse than anything committed in the United States.

Secondly, South Africa was overwhelmingly majority black. Thus some kind of gesture by the white minority toward the Black majority was necessary to avoid violence as much as possible.

Thirdly, South African whites for years after the end of Apartheid retained economic control over South Africa anyway.

Fourthly, in the aftermath of Apartheid, South Africa suffered a staggeringly high murder rate. So despite the various efforts, there was plenty of violence going around.

It really seems like a) you didn't read the OP link, or b) you do not seem to understand the difference between religious tenets and the culture of those people. They are not the same.

I would encourage anyone interested in more than tabloid projections of Robert Jones’s personal history of racism onto Christianity as a whole in America to start here and do your own research on slavery and Christianity.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_abolitionism
Going forward Christianity was key to the civil rights movement. Predominantly through black churches, but through white Christian organizations as well. It should be noted many black clergy and churches did not become actively involved in the civil rights movement for the same reason many white ones didn’t. It was a church/state issue, not a racial one.

Moving on to critique of the book cited in the OP I would have to see the research he claims shows correlation of Christianity and racism. I’m assuming until shown otherwise his research is not formal or subject to peer review.

What gives his game away categorically is his own misunderstanding of Christian doctrine. I don’t think someone who doesn’t know the most important tenets of Christianity should be allowed to speak for all Christianity.

Case in point. Here is a pull quote of the author from the huffpost.com link supplied by the OP.

Either the author is grossly ignorant or blatantly disingenuous. The doctrine that salvation is through personal relationship with God through Jesus is central to Old and New Testaments and was reiterated by Jesus himself. This doctrine was corrupted over time by the Roman Catholic Church but reintroduced by Martin Luther. The concept has nothing to do with, and was in no way influenced by, white supremacy in the US. The notion is absurd to anyone who understands tenets of Christianity or history.

No one is making that BOGUS allegation anywhere in this thread therefore that is a STRAWMAN!

It is NOT "Christianity" that is the problem!

It is White American Christianity that is the problem!

That you are disingenuously CONFLATING them in order to postulate yet another STRAWMAN says volumes.

Can you NOT see the STRAWMAN convolutions that you are using, Cy?

You just QUOTED the thread title and yet YOUR strawman DEFLECTIONS have NOTHING to do with the thread topic which is EVIDENCE of a massive BLIND SPOT in your ability to grasp the issue here.

White American Christianity is NOT the same thing as Biblical Christianity.

There is an entire post PROVING that there are huge DIFFERENCES between them.

You are NOT going to get any responses to your STRAWMAN attempts because they are just attempts to DEFLECT from the thread topic.

It has become apparent that there are NOT going to be any solutions coming from White American Christians who are INCAPABLE of understanding that what they erroneously BELIEVE is the PROBLEM that the OP is trying to address.
