Can we be ready to open schools in the Fall?

He never has. He may be unique among Presidents in that he seems utterly clueless as to just how clueless he really is.

 

Thanks for the link. My heart sank as I read the article about the second wave there. Unless the entire school system is overhauled and redesigned, there is no way we can keep the schools closed down indefinitely.

Maybe we could find a way to have special funding so that more parents (that are already stay-at-home parents) can homeschool a small group of children in a specific subject. It could be some kind of co-op with different parents teaching specific subjects to the same small group.

What if we hired professional cleaning services to go into the schools on the 2/2 schedule? It would free up teachers (or whomever they plan to have clean classrooms and lunch rooms midweek) and get many cleaning company personnel back to work. They would specialize in cleaning so nothing would be missed.

I've been pondering this question since they closed schools early this year. I guess I just hoped the shelter-in-place would give planners and authorities enough time to come up with a workable and safe solution for kids to get back in the classroom. Now, I feel like I was being too optimistic.

P.S. When do you want to get started on 5,000,000,000 masks?

That's an interesting idea. I don't see how it couldn't work as long as there are enough faculty and staff. In some cases, they could even train available parents to help in the classrooms freeing up teachers to adjust to the changes.

It's clear, there are no easy answers and, as many have said, it's probably best handled at the local level with those people on the front lines who know the system and what is needed. I hope we get to see more of the approaches that are working around the nation and the world.

 

I see that NY is going to give it a shot. The last I heard it's going to include two days on site and two days online with everyone off on Wednesday. One group on Monday an Tuesday and the second group on Thursday and Friday. At least that's the plan in my town. I heard this morning a school near Atlanta opened up with kids packed together in the hallway and many without masks. A kid took a picture and of course being Georgia. The kid who took the picture got suspended.

 

I don't know if he is clueless or just ignorant. He was a businessman and had no front line political experience. I'm not a fan so I'm not making excuses. I'm just pointing out that he is clearly out of his depth and he can't just fire anybody that won't be a "Yes Man" (or woman) for him like he could in the private sector.

 

#270 - They reversed the suspension. Glad somebody put on enough pressure for that to happen.

 

NY is the only true test case I know of in the nation. The infection numbers are low. Testing and tracing is being done

It’s a travesty that they were suspended in the first place. It tells you where the administration is and it’s not in favor of the safety of the kids or beating the virus

 

Agreed. It never should have happened. I am glad for all the technological advances we've made and the ability for the public to actually have photographic and video proof of incidents. It really shines a light on how many people must have been unfairly treated and it was swept under the rug because they didn't have enough evidence. I hope more and more that people will stand up and have the public stand behind them in the face of blatant abuse of power and apathy.

 

The interesting thing is that 6 kids and 3 staff from that school just tested positive.

 

Not surprising. I hope that's all the cases they have and this is a lesson to any other school districts that are thinking of pushing the envelope.

 

It's just not Paulding High. Here's the latest on Etowah H.S. in Cherokee County (Georgia). The school nurse resigned because (1) masks weren't mandatory, and (2) lack of PPE equipment.
