Not just okay. It is pretty much the whole point of a war. Civilians are the ones that start the wars. Civilians are the one that support the prosecution of the wars. No civilians then no war.

There was a several year window where the absurd situation existed that we'd spent millions of lives defeating one *******, then handed over half the spoils to someone arguably just as bad.

Either we should have stayed out of the war, or gone at Stalin after Hitler before they developed nuclear weapons.

    No Guilt!
    Japan manufactured a war.
Japan suffered more from Fire Bombing
    than any "A" bomb.

    No Guilt!

Genocide: the intentional mass murder of civilians. When is that the right thing to do?

When the civilians started the war in the first place and then supported their side for most of the conflict.

There was approximately ZERO public support in the U.S. for continuing the war any beyond the surrender of Japan. We had problems enough hanging on to public support for that long.

The A-bombs were dropped on military targets. That's hardly genocide. Neither is it the intentional mass murder of civilians.

When the dictator says so....and the people follow blindly saying..."It is the right thing to do."

"Civilians" did not start the war, a government did. You are okay with genocide.
They were dropped on cities...perhaps you have a different definition of genocide.
Fire bombing cities fits the definition.....and your point about your uncle? He was a combatant was he not?

So the US fire bombing Dresden killing noncombatant women and children was the right thing to do?

You're one of the most thoughtful posters here, but no.

    1) Japan was crushed & prepared to surrender.

    2) It is NEVER okay for ANYONE to do what was done at Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    3) To defend these acts of horrendous terror is to defend bin Laden's actions on 9/11.

    I will not do that.

Of course not. But the blindly devoted followers would do it anyway and say they were justified.
    Would they not?

I see a lot of people doing that, yes, or at least burying their heads in fictional narratives and morally insane positions. Ridiculous. Nonsensical & irrelevant ad hominem. Some truth to that comment.
