    We’re SOME drinking? Probably

In Sturgis everyone is drinking... and partying and trying to get laid

It should serve as a very insightful experiment. I'll be eager to see how the people of sturgis are doing in a couple weeks.

(I bet they'll be just fine)

    Why would they do that?
Sturgis is welcoming the bikers and well as the governor.
It's their city and their state.

Maybe *they* will be just fine as probably the contagion will travel biker to biker. I'm less sure about the people in the communities to where these bikers will be going back.

That's why I said *IF*. See, I said *under the complacent eyes of the governor.*
I know they are not willing to go there... but I just said, IF they were, they'd have the means to do so, therefore there is no excuse that it's just because they can't avoid it, it's because they want it. Which is what I called boneheaded.

Well, 4,165 of the town's 6,943 residents wanted it postponed. They don't really have a choice, though. Eight days left. I think those that stay mostly outside will fare far better than those that hang out mostly in the bars, restaurants and music venues.

Maybe, but if I was a resident, I would have gotten myself a 10-day supply of everything, and holed up for those 10 days. I suspect the 60% of Sturgis residents who didn't want them this year, did something like that.

Oh well - we're as doomed as Trump is Putin's personal Hot Pocket. :(

Or.... maybe we could all agree that the two parties have brought nothing but madness to the country for the last 50 years, and vote for something different! ?

    That works for me!!!

I'll not be voting R nor D. If my fellow countrymen want four more years of insanity, let them decide the flavor. I refuse to vote for it.

That and business owners that didn't want them, should stay closed.

I did that in 2016. And most all other prez elections but 2.
This will be my 3rd time voting for a D or R in the prez election. This time, it's not R.

I don't know what that tells me.
Other than those 60% can voice their opinions in November.

I've been hearing that since 1984. Vote for team OTHER and you'll destroy the country.

    Yawn.

    Same story, different silly season.

Not voting for Trump is a vote against Trump, by default.

Saying I don't like orange flavor is not an endorsement of grape flavor.

That's a supremely difficult decision to make, when Sturgis isn't just A money maker for them. It's THE money maker.

I'd personally buy my staff the best possible PPE I could get my hands on, give them plenty of breaks, and do the best I could. I'd have them in full face shields, gloves and masks. I'd have fifty fans running at all times.

If idiots want to spend money while being idiotic, I want a piece of that. Truly.

Then I guess the risk is worth the money.
Which is likely why it is being held.

No, the residents didn't want it, but they have no voice. The bikers hang out at state parks, mostly.

If I'm in that position, I do my best and get as much cash as I can, as safely as I can.

Small business owners have been in a hellish situation for months, now. I feel awful for them. We're doing our best to support local as best we can. We're ordering take out far more than normal, for example.

I wouldn't. I would stay closed for the full 10 days, and give my employees a vacation as long as they promised to be out of town or sheltered at home.

Ten days of exposure to the virus in a crowded indoors environment may defeat even the best possible PPE, not to forget that the "best possible PPE" which in this case would have to include N95 respirators, is barely available. So, good luck stopping your employees' exposure just with face masks and goggles/face shields. There is still significant inhalation of aerosol. Masks do protect but not if they are under constant assault. And do all your employees know how to wear them properly like a healthcare worker would? How would you feel if, because you "want a piece of that," one of your employees died?

Repeated onslaught at your PPE, not even in the case of trained healthcare workers with good equipment, is fool-proof. I was just reading in a Brazilian website, the report that 1,001 healthcare workers got the virus in their third largest city (although that city isn't one of their worst epicenters, having had only about 600 deaths there, so far, for a population of 5.8 million people), and a young and healthy doctor there, 32 years old, has just died of the virus. This guy, Dr. Lucas Augusto (R.I.P.; leaves behind a wife and two young children):

I wonder if he trained in the US, this picture, I recognized the background as Jacksonville, FL. So, even highly trained people can get the virus, in densely infected environments.

I like what the President of Argentina said when people complained of his lockdown hurting the economy: "You can recover from an economic slump. You can't recover from death."
