Unfortunately that is actually true. It happened in Australia, also. Wasn't the experts who wanted them, it was the healthcare system. I mean they had a point, since they would be looking after all the sick people .. but still, it was a stupid stupid move.

You would be incorrect. The wording is "In public", not "when around others"

That may be the wording in some places but not all, when someone is ticketed for not wearing one while hiking by themselves I will agree it has overreached.

Every state is requiring them on the state level so whats the difference who the order comes from? They aren't doing anything really NEW here...they are just taking a concept that already exists and trying to take some kind of credit for it

    Irrelevant to individual rights...

    Bulverism Fallacy.

There is no "health crisis". A fraction of a fraction of a percent of people dying is not a pandemic... It is statistically insignificant.

My example was hypothetical. I did not get a ticket, but mask laws are strictly enforced in many cities. I live in Los Angeles. I spent the weekend in Monterey and the mask police were out in full force.

It is 100% overreach. No one is forced to get within 6 feet of others.

What about 13 feet? We must live in different areas of the country if you can go in public and not have multiple people get within 6 feet of you.

I like the outdoors. I hike, swim in the ocean, and take long walks in the neighborhood with my dog. The post I replied to referred to "science" and so far, no one can explain the science behind a fine for being in public without a mask.

The science is because it reduces the transmission distance from several feet down to a few feet.

How does the virus know that I paid a fine and why does that make the virus decide not to kill grandma? In my example, I am never within 20 feet of another human.

A guy was paddle boarding in the ocean hundreds/thousands of feet away from others. He was arrested.

There is zero science behind the abuse of power.

OK I think we're at the point in the discussion where we end up just repeating our arguments, so I'll just repeat my already stated argument and hopefully we're done because this doesn't seem like it will be productive: Masks are not a new technology that we just discovered. We've had them for many many decades, so the science should be fairly well established. So when the Surgeon General, the CDC, and the blessed Dr Fauci (PBUH) all have one story in February and March and then a few months later, have totally opposite stories, one has to wonder, what about the "science" of masks changed in two months?

Or you can simply have no curiosity about that at all and change your mind every time the "experts" do.

The fine is to push compliance so that grandma doesn’t get it to begin with

You shouldn’t be required to wear a mask if you are that far away from others especially outdoors

A person being arrested for paddle boarding without a mask is absurd but it didn’t happen that way...
He was arrested when the beaches were closed and for refusing to follow the requests of lifeguards

I have a real problem with that blatant lying by public health authorities but apparently I'm in a decidedly tiny minority in that regard. Everyone else seems satisfied to let it go.

No sir, "killing grandma" is the excuse for the abuse of power. There is zero science behind it.

Our mayor told us not to go to work, and enjoy the parks and beaches. Then he closed down the beaches. There is no science behind this abuse of power either. I go to the beach often and even before Covid, no one sits within 15-20 feet of one another.

I am at the point where we should remove all mask mandates — maybe even ban them — and end all testing just to see if the people saying this has no science behind it agree with the outcome.

Not if there is not a fire and you do so to cause a public disturbance.

Don't cross contaminate this with other issues. We are not talking about testing, quarantine for positive cases, PPE where is needed, etc.

There is no science behind mandatory mask laws in many cities. What is being sold as science is merely a song and dance to justify abuse of power. It appears to be a trial balloon for politicians to see how far they can push us.

Yes you can, even if there is not a fire. There is nothing illegal about the exclamation "fire!".

    This is absolutely NOT true.

Florida is an example of a state with significant COVID problems and as of 6 days ago (at least) has no state wide mask requirement. DeSantis has stated that such a requirement won't happen.

If you want to know whether a state has a mask requirement, you have to LOOK!

Are you really suggesting that the CDC is trying to abuse power when they promote masks for fighting the spread of COVID? Where is the evidence of THAT, and what does CDC even have to gain, given that the administration as a whole is not even interested in fighting COVID?

Science isn't city or state specific, and COVID doesn't care about your address, obviously. So, what the heck do you mean when you claim science is wrong in "many cities"?
