Yeah Joseph...it is a lot of hindsight.There was a lot of fear too. As a young man....about 17 at the time, I thought of it as a type of "appeasement". I never understood how we could stand with a Communist Nation in hopes they'd wanna be like us. Now we know. They don't want to be like us. They want to own us.

That to me is the problem with Globalism. The premise is, we must forget our principles to be like other nations. America 1st says, "we retain our sovereignty, respecting basic human rights while working with other Nations.....and hopefully they will imitate success. If that is not their desire, so be it.

OSHA and the EPA are bureaucracies at their worst. Un elected bureaucrats that make stupid decisions that puts small businesses out of jobs and costs all a lot of $$.

Imagine me, a small contractor having an OSHA man tell me that any noise exceeding certain decibels required my men to wear hearing protection, while at the same time, the back up beeper on the forklift was required to exceed those decibels. Just a tiny fraction of what business men put up with from a bunch of un elected elitist snobs. Trump eliminated some of that and that is how the economy took off before China Virus. Biden will once again enslave us.

Nixon was an unprincipled OPPORTUNIST who saw a political advantage in appealing to DISAFFECTED white southern Dems who were opposed to the Civil Rights Act that was eventually passed by LBJ. Those white southern RACISTS were not happy campers which made them an easy target for a conniving political shyster like Nixon.

Attempting to rewrite history does NOT alter any of the FACTS or the MOTIVATIONS behind the actions.

And just so you understand I am an INDEPENDENT and LBJ's political MOTIVATION for passing the CRA in order to steal black voters from the GOP was just as VENAL as Nixon's MOTIVATION for appealing to disaffected white southern racists.

It was pure unadulterated POLITICAL pandering on BOTH sides and Nixon was an acolyte of McCarthy who tutored him in mendacious political backstabbing while LBJ was an old school Dem who would do anything he could to undermine his political opposition.

People trying to write fiction point to things like the EPA. The thing is, he was president in a liberal era. Bipartisan legislation was the norm. But if you want to see the real Nixon all you have to do is look at Superfund. The intent of Superfund was to slow the EPA down to a crawl.

He made a lot of bad decisions.

He sent teams of lawyers across the country, even Hawaii, trying to find a legal basis on which to challenge the election.

He didn't find anything. A while back a team of historians went to Chicago to go over the voting records. If it had happened anywhere, it would have been there. They also found nothing.

But I will give him this much, when the country turned against him, he didn't do what Trump will be doing.

 

I think Nixon loved his country and he understood the honor of his office, as have all presidents before trump.
Of course presidents make mistakes, some have even been incompetent, but only trump has soiled his office and dishonored his duty so thoroughly just to feed his ego and nurse his personal grudges.

The point of the OP that every leftist in here is validating with their post about Nixon is he did a very long list of things they should like but they still find a way to despise him because he was a Republican. This proves that no matter what democrats won't work with republicans.

 

Normalizing relations with China was not what got us to where we are now. It was the flawed implementation of that policy by a long list of politicians in both parties over decades.

 

The bombing was to force North Vietnam to the bargaining table and it worked
