The political parties continue to lose members. They both use these divisions to try to gin support come elections, and then govern only favoring their special few.

 

Who said they wanted America to stop innovation? I haven't heard anyone in govt state such.

 

America is without question the greatest country in the history of the world. America is the wealthiest and most powerful nation on earth because of one simple thing, freedom. Our freedom is what produces exceptional individuals from all walks of life that bring exceptional things to the table. Everything that has improved the quality of life for the last three centuries over was conceived here. It was America that produced the modern world. Even our form of government is superior to anything else, anywhere. Those that would change it are entitled, ungrateful, spoiled children who always want more but do nothing but bitch. They are also entitled to leave but you'll notice that they don't. America is the only nation on the planet that does not have poverty. Our government's largesse with social programs is such that no one has to go to bed hungry and the only ones that do, have done so by choice or the choices of their families. Entitlements in America provide all the basic necessities of life and in many cases compete with gainful employment. We even take care of those who are here illegally. The hand wringers and bleeding hearts will come back with the ever popular argument of inequality but it's about economic shortcomings and ignores our wealth of opportunity. They hate that word by the way, they equate opportunity with hard work. It's's so much easier to accept a handout and bitch rather than try to improve their situation themselves. There are of course exceptions but they are statistically small. Everything I've said here is the absolute truth but some are willfully blind to that because they think that America being what it is owes them something. These same folks and their enablers have taken personal responsibility out of the equation and that is a stumbling block for them. The reality of that just doesn't square with them. Nobody of note ever came to America wealthy, the Carnegies, the Rockefellers and the rest of that fraternity came here and by their own personal industry became the moguls, magnates and financiers that built America.

 

Tell that to Canadians who enjoy a cultural mosaic rather than a melting pot.

 

Your premise is about total automation which will never happen and there will always be menial jobs, so what do you suggest, should we just expand the welfare class? The promises of technology have never lived up to the hype. What you suggest is centuries away not next week.

 

I agree that diversity is a serious negative influence for any society. But I think we can work past any issues.

Oh yeah, they are quite cosmopolitan with a handful cultural centers scattered across what is still mostly farms and wilderness. What do they have, like two or three interstates? The only interesting parts of Canada are those places that border the US.

Maybe it's semantics, but America has always been (at least from the early 1800s) a highly diverse society consisting of numerous nationalities, races, creeds and color. Ya know, the melting pot and all, or as in the seal with E Pluribus Unum.

Think again. McDonalds bought an AI company last year to help them automate their customer interaction, and they already have test
kitchens in Arizona. Virus like covid will help push up the implementation date faster. We're seeing the rapid development of kiosk type
dispensers in Japan and in the US we are moving to kiosk type car sales with Carvana. It's going to happen a lot faster than you think. I was phased out
of a management position 10 years ago by changing technology. It happens.

 

You're right. This system has produced greatness seen few other places. But it shot its wad. It did it's job. And like every other system, it has now reached its advanced stage wherein it is in continuing crisis. It is dying and turning into greater and greater authoritarianism. It is irretrievable as we have seen in greater and greater clarity as decades pass.

It needs to be changed because so many problems of disparate types have been created, AND it is our economic system that has led our politics and culture to create these problems, AND under this system those problems cannot be finally resolved with the system that created and sustains them.
