Affirmative Action is here to stay. It is still needed and it helps many people.
Thanks to all of you for this stimulating conversation.
    Take care and stay safe.

Racism is kept alive only by the "racial industry". Affirmative action and the idea "the poor negro" needs help from virtue signaling liberals is more than counterproductive. We've had one half black President (a non-descendent of American slavery). We know have a half black Jamaican running as VP whose family made their wealth on over 200 slaves. Time to realize the MLK dream.....One race, the human race.

I compare affirmative action for minorities to the electoral college for smaller States

both can be a good thing and a bad thing

Slave masters benefited from slavery in America for less than 100 years, and slave masters were a minority of Americans.

Separate being on land which is now America and being in America after 13 colonies organized as a country and declared Independence from England. The rest of the land in 1776 was still not part of the new United States and had been colonized by Spanish, French, English and Dutch settlers.

Upon the establishment of America as an independent country, about half the states were free states and about half were slave states. This was the best agreement the abolitionist founders could get with the pro-slavery founders in order to form any Union at all.

America was the first country founded on the idea that all men are created equal, and from 1776 to 1865, the battle was on to achieve what was a lofty ideal in that day in age. No country in the world fought a Civil War between its own states so that we could live up to that ideal. We succeeded in less than 100 years.

Free States at the founding of America:

    New Jersey
    Pennsylvania
    Connecticut
Massachusetts (included Maine at the time)
    New Hampshire
    New York
    Rhode Island

Slave States at the founding of America:

    Delaware
    Georgia
    Maryland
    South Carolina
    Virginia
    North Carolina

After the original 13 states were formed until Emancipation in 1865, new states were admitted, nine free states and nine slave states, until California, Minnesota, Oregon and Kansas were all admitted as free states between 1850-1861, really tipping the balance toward freedom versus slavery. The last two states to join before Emancipation were West Virginia in 1863 (a slave state with a clause to abolish) and free state Nevada in 1864.

At the time of Emancipation, America consisted of 36 states. Only 16 states were ever slave states, and about 1/3rd of those were not part of America until very close to the time that slavery was abolished.

Haha. "Fix the underlying problem." How profound. Someone should have thought of that earlier. ;)

Too bad Obama took the Malcolm X community organizer approach to American "progress" and not Martin Luther King's approach. Obama could have been a great president for an entire race-neutral country, instead of a divider activist. Hindsight is 20/20.

Everything is an option in politics. Obama ended up being the identity-politics president, splitting out people by race. But that's a Democrat Party strategy so America got what the most states voted for.

Think it had something to do with his affinity toward the Marxist Left.

It is BS.....that is why I never voted for the man. I knew of his associations with the Dorns and other Marxists. I read things about his Mother and Father. I knew of his latent Marxist tendencies. Barrack Hussein Obama was just a gradual "implementer" of the ideology.

No one outside the problem, can fix the problem.

PS: Thinking that only white people can fix brown people is ... well, pretty ****ing obnoxious. And the reason that the problems continue.

That's what split the Democrat Party. Obama was dog-whistling to the Socialists and Marxists with most of his rhetoric, but in his actions, he got pulled into the elite web of the standard neo-Liberal and acted just like any traditional Democrat of the last 30 years. His words didn't match his actions. The old-guard people in power were happy, but the Socialist/Marxists were so angry that today they are trying to burn down Liberal cities...and takeover the Democrat Party from the inside.
