    One can only hope two more republican senators will step up and stop Trump's and McConnell SCOTUS nominee?!! A republican word does not mean jack sh*t?!! Let the next president make the appointment?!!

    “The American people should have a voice in the selection of their next Supreme Court Justice. Therefore, this vacancy should not be filled until we have a new president.”

    That was Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell in 2016 after the death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia left a vacancy. If you were unsure if McConnell was full of **** then, today’s actions by him and his GOP colleagues confirms it.

    The Republican argument in having a new position is that now, the president (sic) and Senate are of the same party. But, that doesn’t change the fact there is an election in 43 days. That doesn’t change the fact we can have a new president and even a new Senate in January.

    The fact of the matter is, Mitch McConnell, Donald Trump, and the Republican Party don’t care about being hypocrites. They never had integrity or a sense of fairness. The only reason they bark out some stupid bullshit about the president (sic) and Senate being the same party now, something they didn’t stipulate in 2016, is because they need some bullshit. I mean, they can’t just come out and say it’s a power grab and they don’t care. They can’t admit they’re hypocrites.

    If they had to, they’d create some new crap like there’s a exception for a president with a bad combover.

    McConnell was on Sean Hannity’s show fairly recently where Hannity praised Trump for being so much better than President Obama at nominating judges. McConnell actually corrected him and said Obama was good at nominating, but that he, McConnell, was good at blocking them. Then McConnell let out a sick giggle.

    Republicans don’t care about decency, fairness, or integrity. They definitely don’t care about the Constitution. And hey, when it’s all said and done, the court may not matter if we’re in a fascist system.

    But, they’re rushing to fill this seat because the argument they clung to in 2016 may be true this year. Donald Trump may be rejected by the American people again, but this time, tossed out of office. The United States Senate may be in Democratic control. The fact the Republicans are forcing this vote on a new justice, before the election or the end of the year, is because it’s a power grab. It’s because they’re afraid the people will have a say.

    In fact, a new poll shows that 62 percent of Americans want the confirmation to wait. Maybe America feels kinda weird about an impeached president making lifetime appointments to the highest court in the nation.

    When McConnell made the statement about Americans having a say in their next Supreme Court Justice, he said, “THEIR” Supreme Court Justice. He was momentarily correct in that the seat belongs to us, not to the Republican or Democratic Party. They’re playing politics with our lives for the next forty years. In a few months, their politics may mean an end to legal abortion. It may mean an end to healthcare coverage for millions of Americans.

    I can change my positions too. I was against adding new seats to the court. Now, I’m for it. If the Republicans are going to steal seats from Democrats and refuse to play by their own rules, and a stupid, racist president who is a tool of Russia can’t nominate anyone who can garner 60 votes, then let’s do some power grabbing of our own. Increase the number of seats and while we’re at it, let’s make Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico states. That’ll give Democrats four more Senate seats.

    What’s good for the goose is good for the hypocritical gander.

    None of the Trumpers I've encountered have given an intelligent answer to this. Most of them said "that's politics" as if that's any excuse. I don't think those people realized that they were admitting their hypocrisy. One poster said something like "hur dur whatever it takes to protect our culture." That one blew me away.

    I don't know how to say this without coming off as insulting, but the conservatives I have encountered seem to have zero intellectual integrity. They will engage in whatever mental gymnastics needed to justify their absurd positions.

    Don't get me wrong. Dems are no strangers to mental gymnastics. But conservatives are much better mental gymnasts after four years of making excuses for the orangetard.

    You lost me when you used the word, "fairness."

    As the old bible verse reminds us, "stop pointing out the splinter in the eyes of others while you have an entire plank stuck in your own eye."

    Trump campaigned hard for several Senate candidates during 2018 and made it plainly clear that his objective was to hold the Senate to be specifically be able to appoint as many conservative judges as possible.

    So the Republicans actually increased their lead in the Senate during the midterms with the help of Trump's campaigning.

    As they say, "elections have consequences," and Trump is simply doing what he promised. He is appointing as many judges as he possibly can.

    This current SCOTUS appointment is part of that 2018 pledge.


    Hint: You use the word fairness after the Trump campaign was spied on and after the phony Russian hoax, Impeachment and the current military soundbite scams.
    I'm not feeling very sympathetic to your added insinuations and name calling.
    Trump has every right to tell people like Schumer and Pelosi to go take a hike.

    I can't see how you can call one side hypocrite without calling both sides hypocrites. And yes, they both are, always have been, and always will be.

    I fail to see this so-called hypocrisy. In the last election there was certainly going to be a new president, that isn't even historically likely now. It's all a bunch of nonsense if Trump wins anyway...

    The most obvious rebuttal is that the Dems are hypocrites on this exact same matter. They spent all of 2016 arguing how the Senate should do its job and vote on the nominee. Now they don't want them to do their job. Hypocrites, all of them.

    The recent average number of days from nomination to final Senate vote is 67 days which would put the vote in November 28th, the quickest was 23 days which would put it to October 15th — both of these are if the President nominated someone today. Should it pass election day and trump lose, should a president that was removed by the people get to push a lifetime appointment against the wishes of the people?

    A two time dully elected by the people president wasn’t allowed to do so but a zero time one should?

    If y’all were even as remotely sure that Republican policy represents a majority of the people then y’all would be fine with waiting until the election is over. But you know it isn’t, so you want to ram this through because another chance to steal power might not present itself in the near future.

    This is about power only — not what is in the best interest of the nation or heeding the voices of the people.

    In 2016, McConnell consistently said that becsuse it was an election year, voters should decide which presidential candidate should pick the next justice. And that was eight months before the election. Now he says that a nominee to replace Ginsberg "will receive a vote on the floor of the United States Senate." Any dictionary could use that as an excellent example of the word "hypocrisy."

    Lindsey Graham, the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee whose job it is to vet nominees to the courts, said after Scalia's death in 2016: "I want you to use my words against me. If there's a Republican president in 2016 and a vacancy occurs in the last year of the first term, you can say, 'Lindsey Graham said let's let the next president, whoever it might be, make that nomination.'" Now he says that he will support President Trump "in any effort to move forward regarding the recent vacancy created by the passing of Justice Ginsburg."

    Do you have a better definition of hypocrisy?

    Nice spin, but the hypocrisy is all on Senate Republicans, as described in comment #16. It isn't hypocrisy on the part of Democrats to point that out, to use McConnell's words against him, or Graham's (which he himself told them to use against him back in 2016).

    If you want to take it that way, that's fine. The real point is that when a party has a senate majority, that party legally makes the call. It's pretty simple. The senate majority should use all legal means to advance their positions.

    When you have people threatening more violence and riots if Trump selects a new nominee, then I'm in full support of Trump picking a new one. I don't appreciate threats and I will not support anyone who intends to use force to try and get what they want. If this is the kind of behavior they want to engage in then I will oppose them every step of the way.
