Well, perhaps the GOP can still negotiate and get a veto-proof majority???

    Exactly. Scorched Earth.

So much for everybody "getting a check signed by Trump" in the mail.

Obviously, Trump is already planning on a Catastrophic Loss.

And, he realizes that his only (infinitesimal) hope revolves around a Court challenge involving the mail-in ballots.

    Trump's response:
The key here is "Nancy Pelosi is asking for $2.4 Trillion Dollars to bailout poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19. We made a very generous offer of $1.6 Trillion Dollars and, as usual, she is not negotiating in good faith."

    Trump has a point!

All Pelosi had to do was go from 2.2 to 1.8 and a deal would've been within reach but clearly she couldn't bring herself to do that. This is the 3rd time in 18 months where the Speaker has a deal on the table and she screwed it up.

this is a very DANGEROUS move by Trump.

Americans are desperate for help, and he is now politicizing that help.

    this may guarantee Biden wins

    and Trump is lying.

much of the $2.4 trillion does not go to government entities. its stimulus checks to 60 million Americans and aid for small businesses.

....and if they'd taken out the extra money for "poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19" they might have had a deal.

It's been a sticking point for months, liberal cities despite promising you you won't have tax hikes have continued to spend and to be blunt they're out of money.

Federal dollars don't normally go to the States but Pelosi seeks to take advantage of the virus to fund the States.

Do you know the exact breakdown of what Pelosi wanted to use nearly an extra trillion dollars for?? Do you have proof none of it was earmarked for "poorly run, high crime, Democrat States, money that is in no way related to COVID-19"?

Do you think $1.6 trillion would have been better than $0?

I'm on the fence about the bailouts anyhow. I hate how they've added to our insane debt, and at this point the country has begun recovering even without more bailouts, so maybe we don't really need such huge "stimulus" packages anyhow. There are many angles to it and I can see arguments for and against.

If Nancy was a political idiot like trump shed say trump wants to send it to irresponsible red states who keep trying to open prematurely and causing new outbreaks.
Except dems plan to compete in those states. Glad trump is giving up on winning any purple states.

Trumps stupidity just tanked the markets. Sounds like he knows he’ll lose and wants to punish the country.

Why are you pretending to have any idea what he’s talking about? Please tell me how much and to which states and what if’s for.

And actually I suspect Trump actually does want a deal. Trump is trying the old carrot and stick strategy. A deal was dangled in front and now it was taken away.

Essentially it says to Pelosi: "1.6 trillion or nada". Since Trump unilaterally declared that he'd pass a stimulus if reelected, he put the onus on the House Speaker.

Trump isn't holding the stimulus hostage, he's holding Pelosi hostage by giving her two awful political choices.

This may be side effects of trumps lack of oxygen and all the experimental drugs they gave him.

How is he giving her two options by saying there are zero options?

I still don’t understand how everyone is fine with the Senate completely relinquishing their duty by giving the Executive branch the ability to directly negotiate this?

The executive branch can pass or veto anything it wants. And Trump can name his price for his signature whatever he wants provided it's within the construction and the meaning of the bill.

This is on the Speaker. Were I Speaker it never gets to this point.

Pelosi got greedy. She lost $1.6 trillion by greedily trying to bump it up almost another trillion dollars. Smart people can see this. I don't think she counts on appealing to the smartest people though ;)

Correct, the executive branch can SIGN (not pass as that indicates they are involved in the legislation) or veto. That is not happening here, the Executive has actively taken over the job of the Senate.

How is this Pelosi’s fault because the Senate refuses to negotiate by passing it to the Executive and now the Executive has said nothing will pass until after the election?
