Good ducking and weaving going on there. One thing for sure you can't get the Chinese virus from PF...well yet. You just have to hold your breathe when you type and run outside to breathe.

Howdy y'all. Finally got some fall weather! Nice!

Long story short. My 94 yo dad has 2 squatters in his house who refuse to leave. Been to eviction court twice last week with no resolution. Seems judges are reluctant to evict due to Covid. Even if the squatters are taking advantage of an elderly man.

Word of advice... never allow anyone to stay in your home. They may refuse to leave and the law is on their side. :(

Appealing the decision, but it could take months. Stepsister in LA is threatening to bring her two 80 lb pitbulls to visit. Stay tuned for more drama.

Sometimes the law seems a bit harsh to law abiding folks. I have heard of people taking doors off their house to get rid of unwanted people.

Been a few rounds on trying to get people to leave property that is no longer theirs, fortunately before all this COVID stuff. That was hard enough, 90 days and court costs, which aren't recoverable in this particular situation.

    Pitbulls should be mighty effective.

    .

The law, at best, has always been an ass.

Adult Protective Services has been NO help. Their way of handling it is to scold us for allowing him to live alone. Dad doesnt want to leave the home hes lived in for 50 years and he does just fine taking care of himself. Why is the govt answer always "we're much smarter than you and we know what's best?"

Or he could get some "visitors" to make the squatters miserable. Someone to eat up all their food and take dad out to eat.

My son-in-law who is Nigerian has been an American citizen for 23 yrs. and married to my daughter for 20 yrs. He has been very protective and respectful of my husband and me. I only know about him and the few family members here. I just wanted to let you know there is some good and my daughter is a social worker and will say how difficult it is to fight for certain things and they do fight hard.

No doubt there are wonderful folks from all countries. Just saying, in a govt agency dealing with hard of hearing elderly, speaking fluent English would certainly be an asset. :)

Yes, the Nigerians who have fled Nigeria since their civil war tend to be well educated very productive people.

Sometimes it is hard for some government workers to put themselves in other people’s shoes. You are lucky if you can find one that will bend the rules for the right reason. Asking freeloaders to leave your house should be a reason and whatever happened to abusing the elderly isn’t that abuse to have someone in his house who is an unwanted person? I think stress is abuse and a cause of physical health problems not to mention mental health.

Here's how it started... dad was longtime friends with squatters mother. She was evicted from her apt last yr and was sick and had no place to go. So dad took her in. She was in & out of hospital so her DAUGHTER came to take care of mom. Mom passed away in January and daughter refuses to leave. She had her drivers license changed to his address. This isn't the first time she's taken advantage of men. Her rap sheet is 32 pages long and she goes to a Methodone clinic everyday. Lovely person... 45 yo used up druggie prostitute. Everytime I have a conversation with her, I end up calling the police.

How's that for friggin drama?

I am surprised social services is not champing at the bit to do something. Elder abuse should be frowned on. A squatter living in an elders house is abuse. Elder abuse is against the law.
