Yip, this must be some roundabout stab at barrett on the scotus. Who knows, it's silly, but whatever keeps the crazies busy.

Reminds me of that time two Nigerians attacked that poor gay man just trying to get a sandwich in a polar vortex.

Oh c'mon, you know that would be like the best Jerry Springer show ever.

Bonus points if they're transgender AND gay.

We may need specific flowcharts developed for this.

Nope, it was a joke, though I still don’t know what words were being censored. Could have been any number of things.

LOL. Next you'll be calling me a race traitor or something... I'll save you the time it takes you to get there, and remind you that I don't really care about your next comment.

if a church wants to marry a gay couple, that is up to the church - but I agree, legally it's up to the consenting adult couple

most people do not care about religious marriage anymore, the marriage that count is the legal one

Don't make the mistake thinking that everyone is in LOCKSTEP with the party or candidate they vote for. Wish you could meet a couple hardcore Democrats I'm acquainted with, they'd singe your ears off with their opinions of the LGBTQ!

Since I've never opposed gay marriages I don't know if it's appropriate for me to comment but here goes:

I've been to gay marriages and as far as weddings go, they're no different than heterosexual weddings except for the union of two people who happen to be of the same gender.

Since the best part of both weddings and funerals is the reception, afterward, the only ways in which I have been adversely affected by gay wedding receptions is by overeating and possibly having a bit more wine than is currently considered socially acceptable.

There are few certainties in life but one of them is the certainty of having good food and good wine at a gay wedding reception.

Sure I know that political affiliations are a sliding scale and not a binary, but I can usually field an accurate guess based on a rant like the one I quoted. Just figured I’d confirm.
And I know Democrats/liberals can be/are awful in many ways. I just also know I’ve got to side with the group that I think does the least harm.

    Yep. All that.

I just wish people, especially with children, would take the commitment more seriously or not marry at all. Stable family structure is important for children and divorce is a stupid problem for the state to be caught up in.

In modern America, marriage as far as the state is concerned is all about how to treat two individuals as one for the purposes of taxes and property law. Sure, maybe a couple of other things too, but it's all about legal stuff, nothing more, nothing less. Marriage is in essence just forming a limited liability corporation.

So when you say want to see the state out of marriages entirely, are you actually saying you want to eliminate this tax shelter? That everyone should file taxes as an individual?

When there is no victim, it does mean exactly that. Otherwise you wouldn't have to move the goal post to actions that actually harm people. (Or animals) The argument is far stronger than your reply.

How is gay marriage a problem for anyone that it does not effect directly?

How do taxpayers benefit from “stable childless family units”?
If you are dating someone without any intentions to have kids - what’s the point of going through the hassle of obtaining marriage license and making a trip to court? I have 2 kids and am married, but if I were to divorce I have no intention of having more kids with another woman, so in all future relationships marriage would be off the table. I have a few friends who have kids and divorced and they all say they see no point of doing another marriage without kids.

The whole marriage concept is centered around bearing children. It’s not, and never was, about government spending resources on some couple just to make sure they are happy.

Gay couples can have kids too, just in case you aren't aware of that.

Call me when a man gives birth.

For the record, I wouldn’t mind stripping ALL taxpayers of survivor benefits and extending these benefits only to those who raised their kids from birth till 21 in a stable marriage that lasted entire childhood.

I don’t mind extending marriage benefits to gays that don’t involve taxpayers money, like inheritance, the right to make medical decisions for your spouse, etc.

It has just gone on to augment the decline of actual marriage, but no I am not in a gay marriage. It has not had a DIRECT impact on my life, but it has on the culture.

Married couples are more likely to participate in the housing market than unmarried couples. The stability provided by a legal bond is the reason for that. Married couples are more capable of participating in the economy than single and non-married couples. Marriage is good for the economy.

Call me when an infertile couple has kids. Adoption, surrogacy, and sperm donation exist.
