The army should be used against seditionists, like Lincoln did against the Democrats of his day.

The EC is working exactly as the Founders intended, if is a way for people in flyover country to be included in the political process rather than just 20 failed big liberal counties.

Right, you don't understand the electoral college so again, you have nothing to say about it.

As I said, more LW lies, sort of like the Russia Hoax.

Ok, the violent thugs were locals, does that make it right?

Oh my God, you realize two things with your statement 1) there were no airplanes when our founders wrote the electoral college and 2) the "flyover country" you are referring to also didn't exist. There were 13 states, all along the eastern seaboard. They all just WROTE the constitution, none of them were considered fly overs.

What you mean to refer to is the debate between large states and small states, but even that was a euphemism for slave states and non slave states. The purpose of the electoral college was to ensure that populist candidates who were popular but were unsuitable for the highest office in the land didn't wind up in the highest office of the land. That's your guy. And he's not even that popular.

The electoral college was conceived by Madison and Hamilton, two proponents of direct representation. They didn't think that minority opinions should rule the country. Not sure why you think that, other than you are voting with the minority party and are admitting it by your statement of relying on losing the popular vote while winning the electoral college vote.

I like it how all the right wingers claim to be originalists...and yet have no idea what the founders actually said or thought about back in those days.

You stumbled on to a few grains of truth there, yes it was meant to protect the small states from the large ones dominating. If we didn't have the EC Trump would be campaigning in CA, IL etc. and would be getting a lot more votes from those places. Give it up, you will never see 38 states in a Constitutional Amendment effort vote to cede power to 20 failed populous LW counties.

I know. You've proven that already.

Go ahead and square any of this with anything you're saying right now.

Isn't it amazing how the founders imagined the future of the country and prepared a set of checks and balances perfectly.. Clearly you didn't know the mind of the founders or perhaps the concept of planning or a vision of the future..

By failed, you mean the counties that make up 80% of the US economy? Whoops.

No, I have all the grains of truth and they add up to a beach of sunny, sunny truth that you don't like.

More over, I never said to abolish the EC, but republicans who wanted that...

    https://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-electoral-college-history-20161219-story.html

I'm all for the EC as the founders claimed. It's a far better system than our current one that allows populist know nothings to get elected president. That's what Congress is for.

You can Google things like Trump orders riot in Lafayette Square, and you’ll get all the evidence you need. Much of it live video.

The facts are not in dispute, except by Trumpsters who don’t want to face the facts and prefer to deny and defend the denial with empty made up claims. We’ve seen that from Trumpsters throughout this thread.

Of course, you weren’t there. You won’t bother to look to see if what I said happens, happened (you’re afraid of the truth, because you know I’m right).

I expect you were one of those Trumpsters trying to parse the definition of tear gas in teh days after the riot you cheered for.

Get RID! of the Electoral College and PACK the Supreme Court. Liberals can't win under current conditions, so they want to change American to push their Communist Ideology. Capitalism has given me the opportunity to be very successful in life, how do I attain the same success if America, becomes a Communist Nation under Democratic rule. I like my Money, don't want to give it away to Liberal Low Lifes.

Not as amazing as you responding to someone else's post and avoiding the obvious errors of your own posts.

They weren't perfect, and the founders knew they were setting us up for conflict if not civil war over slavery. They had no idea how to draft the executive in the constitution and at the convention they punted to a sub-committee that basically just spit back out the same draft from the committee of the whole. Even this original electoral intent went awry almost immediately as populism pushed the general ticket method which we use today. So I'm not sure whose side you're actually on at the moment...

That's an interesting if not incorrect and off topic subject.

Which you can wink at all you want, but that just leaves you half blind as you undermine your own statement because you are desperate to win...which is sad.

The electoral college as conceived by the founders does not currently exist in America. That's a fact. As such, populism has allowed many candidates to become president that otherwise wouldn't. That includes Trump among others. Possibly even Obama given his race. But that said, the question is if you support the electoral college, you don't support the current system which is an imposter of it's intent. That's that.

I get it, you prefer a permanent professional political class like the Bushes and Clintons, perhaps we should have a school like in France, École nationale d'administration, for our leaders?

I think Trump is exactly what our Founders envisioned, a citizen who ran for office because he and millions of others were fed up with the status quo.

The anti-globalist, populist movement isn't going anywhere after Trump, it is alive and well in Europe, note Brexit in the UK and conservative political victories there.

    Most thinking people hope not.

A retreat to the politics of the early to med1930’s, which is what you’re talking about.

We all know how that turns out.

Why flat earthers cheer chest beating strong men, xenophobia, and division is beyond me.

The lessons of history are clear when it comes to those things.

Had the founding fathers been confronted with a man like Trump, and realized that the Constitution they wrote provided very little protection against a corrupt gangster who wants to be king, they would have taken steps.

Trump is in no way what the founders would have endorsed in a leader. He isn’t one. And all those men would have seen it right away.

    Like this thinking Obama supporter?

I reject your silly caricatures. The division we've seen the last four years has come from your side who never accepted the election results, resulting in mob rule, a Deep State coup attempt, and shampeachment over a phone call.
