For the reasons outlined above it is not currently possible to define a THC level above/below which a person is DUI. They are working on a breathalyzer device but...not so much.

"Watch this" describes behavioral difference of pot vs alcohol use not any level of intoxication.

"Passed out?" You obviously chose to ignore the important details. 1/2 hour. The impact on either person is negligible at the 1/2 point. By the 1 hour point the alcohol is burned off but the pot user is staggering but still not as high as they're going to be.

"Extremes?" What is extreme? Two people consumed 6 ounces of their drug of choice in 1/2 hour.

NOw you and that "gentleman" seem to have convinced yourselves that I am against pot use. Try again. ALL drugs should be legal. What has making them illegal gotten us other than an overloaded prison system, violent crime, and on and on.

I am not in any way opposed to personal drug use but I am in favor of acting responsibly.

You are supporting the use of drugs prior to and while operating a motor vehicle. Justify that.

And a mouth swab for residue but a simple mouth wash and maybe even one designed specifically for marijuana smoke residue could render in ineffective.

Yes that was my point, people intoxicated on alcohol behave different from those on pot.

Pot users don't stagger unless they are also drinking alcohol and alcohol creeps it has to be broken down in the liver over time. People smoking pot feel the effects almost immediately. But you eat and you know it will be a smoothly increasing high with a peak in 30 minutes to an hour. So what?

I seriously doubt two people can consume 6 ounces of pot in 1/2 hour.

Do you believe there should be zero tolerance for any drugs while operating a motor vehicle? Justify that. Do I believe people should be able to inject heroin and then go out and drive, of course not. Any narcotics, of course not. Barbiturates, of course not. Speed, never seen any studies that say a moderate does of speed makes you a worse driver. Mushrooms, LSD of course not. A beer or a glass of wine or a toke, I don't see a problem and as the study I cited for the NIH says the person who takes the toke would be the safer driver even at those low levels.

Riddle me this, at what BAC does a person become unable to safely operate a vehicle?

Ha! Trick question. It's different with every person.

    Just my 2 cents.

To all those who think legalization will be great. It will inevitably lead to Big Tobacco taking over Big Pot. They have the money and the clout to do what Big Alcohol did.....corner the market. You can bet along with legalization "of use" growing your own will become VERY illegal. Having a home still can still land you in jail unless you meet all the regulations and have prior approval of paperwork to operate a distilled spirits plant.

You will pretty much have to buy Marijuana like you currently do with Cigarettes, from commercial growers. Of course like with tobacco, they will add fillers and chemicals so you'll need to smoke a whole lot just to get a good buzz going. Once Big Corporations and Big Government team up to get involved, you're not going to like the results. It happened already with Tobacco and Alcohol. The worst part is you'll never be able to go back again either. Big Pot (formerly tobacco companies) have the kind of money to pump into Congress to make sure you'll never go back. You'll see sin taxes on pot rise because the Government smells a new revenue stream and don't get caught with "non sanctioned" weed either, they'll put you away to the grave, look what happened to Eric Garner selling untaxed cigarettes in NY. Then there's a thing called "property Forfeiture" which will work nicely when you owe huge fines and back taxes for growing your own that will surely be written in the national legalization law. Seriously, when was the last time you heard of alcohol or tobacco bootleggers? There's a reason for that.

Big Tobacco Is Already Eyeing Pot

Obama deserves credit for not enforcing the federal law on states that legalized weed for medical and/or recreational use. I suspect under a Biden administration we will see weed declassified to a lesser drug category and total legalization at the federal level.

I have to disagree on your potency argument. Alcohol is pretty strong and big tobacco companies increased the nicotine levels. We still see small distilling companies and microbreweries across the country including wine making companiess. Weed is expensive now but I see the price coming when there is more competition. I doubt big tobacco will get into the goodies laced with THC business. That's my take anyways.

Yeah .. gets a bit tiresome when you have 100 million criminals - of just that variety - Lots of work created.

This issue was front and center during the entire Obama reign - various states already legalizing it - creating huge conflict between these States and the Feds... an anathema to law.

    Yet nothing was done.

Marijuana is too easy to grow and will be too accessible, lots will just grow their own in the backyard and no it won't be anymore illegal than for me to brew my own beer at home or ferment wine and that has in fact been expanding with the connoisseur beers people create at home. My state is 15 gallons per quarter of a year. But if some big businesses do come out of it they will be like Jack Daniels and Jim Beam and Stoli and have premium and mid-level and will compete against each other and the privates.

One of the more bogus arguments made about marijuana these days is the "AND IT'S TEN TIMES MORE POTENT THAN BEFORE".......................yes so people smoke or ingest LESS! That's why it cost 10 times as much. People aren't getting TEN TIMES more stoned and in fact todays pot has less of the lower forms of THC and less cannabinol oils which gave the "Cheech and Chong" effect.

Obama used his political clout to push through the Affordable Care Act when Democrats controlled Congress. Americans wanted Obama to focus on the economy first so they could keep their jobs and health insurance provided by their employer. Obama chose to focus on the ACA instead which was most likely the reason the Democrats lost many seats in Congress to Republicans who were not going to entertain the idea of decriminalizing marijuana at the federal level. Biden might have a better chance at getting it changed.

Yes .. we know Obama was focused on Obamacare aka - "lipstick on a pig" - not addressing the systemic issues reponsible for our 3.5 Trillion dollar spend in 2017 .. an extra 1.75 Trillion mora than we should be spending.

That republicans were not in favor is no excuse.

Yes it's not likely to go to that extreme but I wouldn't assume anyting when it comes to the house they love some regulations!

I think my original comment early in this thread why is that if it's a clean bill it should be short.and sweet. Then I will be 100% in support. If its 1400 pages of garbage, I'd rather just stick with texting a friend of a friend.

When I've traveled out the Colorado to the dispensaries 10 bucks or 12 bucks went a long way, nice big pre rolled, perfect for a tourist like myself. Locals buy it loose, still reasonable IMO.

Pretty potent **** and it's enough for a couple days, I can only maybe have two beers for 10 bucks at a bar, so it's very reasonable.

    General statement:

I also understand the need for some minimal regulation just like for my Jim Beam I want the next bottle to taste just like the last one and not have any funny business in it

There's also a big damn difference between decriminalizing something and legalizing it

unless Trump signs a bill first, I would prefer it happened under Biden, but this needs to be done, so if Trump gets credit, so be it

this will be one for the history books

Sorry, thought you were talking about why Obama didn't address legalizing marijuana when he had 8 years to do so.
