New Mexico governor shuts down grocery stores for two weeks

And I mentioned that NM is peppered with small towns of mostly poor people. Many of those towns only have one grocery.

 

I have food delivered by Fed Ex and they don't charge a tip; nor does the company who Ships the food.

If the employees have been laid off, then there is unemployment and in some cases, welfare. This pandemic started under a republican administration; the virus doesn't care what party you belong to. If you want to kill potentially a couple of million people and have untold millions of people suffer with lifelong medical issues, then keep the stores and other businesses open and you'll get your wish.

 

Nice if you have internet. 1 out of 3 people in NM have not internet connection at all.

Yes, it sounds brilliant to force more bodies into less space to control spread of disease. Genius. There are too many cases with multiple options for people to go. Let’s limit those options so social distancing decreases and square footage per body decreases. I’m surprised it’s taken so long for someone to come up with such a sensible plan.

These aren't poor people from the south side of Chicago. The reservations are pretty much a 3rd world country and if they have phones there is no service. Many don't have running water nor electricity (by their own choice). It's pretty disgusting actually. I blame them for that but it doesn't change the situation.

Yes, the res around here are very poor. They do have cellphones, though. That's probably because these are urban reservations. Not sure about their rural counterparts out in the middle of the desert.

It isn't just about creating difficulties for people needing food.

It is also about getting those closed stores restocked with perishables when they reopen. Fruits, veggies, eggs, meat & chicken & seafood, baked goods, milk & dairy, etc. And at whose cost?

So the customers who infected the grocery store employees should go to a different store while their more convenient grocery is closed. That makes sense.

 

Fear mongering at it's best. I live in SoCal and there wasn't a single Hospital in my area that even came close to capacity in ICU. They were furloughing Nurses because the places were ghost towns. It was the same way ion NYC during the first wave. The temporary hospitals and hospital ship didn't see a single patient. Oh the hysteria of it all! If the customers are not mobile then how are they getting to those stores that are to be closed?

And why complain about local grocery stores being closed but then post a queue outside an open store. Queues outside grocery stores have been seen all year

Me thinks those tweets are crap.

 

Like Amazon, which in a completely unrelated note has been lobbying hard for politicians to shut down grocery stores. Isn't it nice that politicians are so responsive to massive multinationals like Amazon with regards to Covid? I am sure that Amazon's lobbying efforts have nothing whatsoever to do with their record profit and the annihilation of their competitors. I am sure Democratic governors are not shutting down grocery stores to allow Amazon the opportunity to take over the market. Won't it be nice when you are completely reliant on a single company for all of your needs?

Keep your eyes for pharmacies to be forcibly shut down in the very near future. Amazon has just started a new pharmaceutical service and as they ramp up, it is a no-brainer that they will raise Corona concerns with regards to pharmacies to a Democratic governor/president near you.
