YouTube suspends One America News Network channel for violating COVID-19 misinformation policy

    This has all kinds of dynamics. As a private enterprise I suppose they have the right to exclude content from it's platform, not to mention I'm no fan of OANN, while it may be true that OAN is spreading misinformation, untruths about Covid, then YT is becoming the arbiter of truth. So, the question is, should they be the arbiters of truth? There is a slippery slope here. I'm conflicted on this, so i invite your opinions.

    Let's take the anti-vaxxers. while I am not against vaccines, overall, I do believe some information not flattering to vaccines is being suppressed, and that it is being suppressed, is due to corporate interests, astroturfing, etc., and YT could use the same justification to suppress just information because of corporate interests. Now, maybe I'm wrong on that point (about the unflattering vaccine info), I very well could be, but are we throwing out the baby with the bathwater? I don't want YT deciding for me what the truth is.

    YouTube has suspended the One America News Network (OANN) channel for repeated violations of the video platform's policy on sharing COVID-19 misinformation, YouTube confirmed Tuesday. The channel has also been demonetized as a result of the suspension, YouTube added.

    "Since early in this pandemic, we've worked to prevent the spread of harmful misinformation associated with COVID-19 on YouTube. After careful review, we removed a video from OANN and issued a strike on the channel for violating our COVID-19 misinformation policy, which prohibits content claiming there's a guaranteed cure," YouTube said in a statement.

    "Additionally, due to repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy and other channel monetization policies, we've suspended the channel from the YouTube Partner Program and as a result, its monetization on YouTube."

    if they repeatedly violated the TOS, they get a temporary ban, but if they upset the advertisers, they can be demonetized

    that said, we need competition, choices, so I encourage others to create more free services to choose from

    of course the advertisers will choose where they want to go too

    as the advertisers pay for the free service, they will have some control, unless we want a government provided service where all free speech laws apply

    There are Thousands of other places on the Internet where the "Conspiratorial OANN Whack Jobs" can post their content.

    Nothing is being "censored", they just can't put their Trash on YT.

    So what exactly is accurate info on the china virus? First it was all is OK as mentioned by de Blasio, Pelosi and the World Health Org. Then it was we all need masks, except for Fauci, de Blasio, Pelosi and others. Then it was social distancing, but not if you're rioting or looting or sitting in the stands at a baseball game like Fauci did or having dinner with Newsom or if you're a mayor flying out of Denver.

    It actually is censorship because they're literally censoring content, more importantly, they're censoring a point of view. Having other choices doesn't mean YT isn't censoring, it just might mean those other choices aren't.

    Has it occurred to anyone that when big tech censors what you see what we end up with is uninformed people who never heard about Biden's racism or how his running mate called him a racist and woman abuser. Do you know how many people I've talked to that know nothing about Clinton's email scandal and never heard of Lois Lerner and her corruption? But big tech didn't censor the allegations of a pee tape which many on this board still refer to.

    They didn’t sensor the lies about Trump calling the military losers either. And we’re supposed to trust what their definition of “misinformation”. It’s already BS because we have 4 years of examples and them not censoring any leftist outlets, but plenty on the Right.

    If something vaguely conservative and intellectually stimulating manages to get past Google’s content gatekeepers, they just remove it. YouTube, which is owned by Google, routinely demonetizes, restricts and censors conservative content. One target of YouTube was Dennis Prager’s PragerU, which had 40 of its videos restricted. Prager sued the social media video giant this year following these unfounded restrictions. YouTube has also been known for banning pro-life videos.

    that is not censorship, this is their site, you can't force others to push a fake message for you

    create their own site if they want to push a fake message, no one stopping them

    would you say the same about a Christian site banning Muslims from posting on their members only site
