Progressive ideology is now inside the city government. Crime will probably continue increasing. Were the police ever supposed to be social workers:

It's sad how these folks protect us yet the liberals spit on them just like they did to soldiers returning from Vietnam.

People really are going to have to decide if they want people like this making decisions.

Give it 10 years and Seattle will look like Detroit.

Maybe the police officers will move to "red" and "purple" cities and states, where they will be appreciated, and these liberal "blue" enclaves can self-destruct amidst their own stupidity.

As crime rises and police officers leave and politicians continue full speed with their stupid choices, it only stands to reason that soon the wiser and wealthier residents and business owners may leave too.

That will leave these liberal utopias to be populated primarily by politicians, criminals, the homeless, and a handful of whiny entitled virtue signaling millennials. That should make for a nice tourism brochure....

They are probably ALL RETTIRING as all it 5akes for full retirement is 25 years of continuous service. Start at age 20 full retirement based on the average of the officers 12 highest consecutive Quarters of earnings. Wouldn't every employee of a non governmental employer LOVE to have a retirement as generous as that. All retirees of any branch of the military or government get far more generous and much shorter eligibility requirements for full pensions than anywhere in the private sector.

There is NO LOGICAL BASIS for your statement. In a quick, historical review, Detroit's problems began with the exodus of good-paying, auto assembly jobs. This led to high unemployment, leading to high poverty, leading to increased crime. There is no parallel here to Seattle, simply because a large number of its officers are leaving its police force. In fact, if the reason that many of them are leaving is because they like being able to use unnecessary force with impunity, then good riddance! It does not mean either that 1) none of these officers will be replaced, nor 2) that no one is willing to be a member of the police force, unless they are given carte blanche, regarding their tactics. And, according to our laws-- which, by definition, are the best representation of a free, democratic society's, majority-ideas of what is right, & what is improper-- police should not have absolute legal immunity, regardless of their actions. Please note that this, factual statement, does not imply any lack of appreciation or respect for police officers who follow the law & the procedures prescribed by their departments.

As far as the decreased funding, in these unusual times, this thread is taking it out of context. That is, in lieu of the federal government reversing course & providing Covid-related funds for the states-- which have been forced to pay for all measures to address the health crisis out of their own budgets, while simultaneously seeing their revenues precipitously drop, due to said crisis-- most local governments (which will see less funding from their states) will have no choice but to cut funding to ALL ongoing programs, across the board. State & local governments cannot, like the federal govt., run a deficit (by law). So, until & unless we see how Seattle's new budget compares to prior budgets, it is impossible to evaluate Seattle's 17% expected reduction in police funding, cited in the OP.

I believe the El Paso Texas police department is suing the Dirty Donald campaign for over $500 Million plus interest, for police protection provided for a rally held there a couple of years or more ago. There are several other cities around the country that his campaign rallies have similarly stiffed for payment.

Damn, now there is the place to be a cop in. Assuming they had 50,000 cops at the event, that works out to $10,000/cop for one night of work. If there were only 5,000 cops, that would be $100k/cop and if there were only 500 that would be $1 million/cop.

He said Seattle will look like Detroit and didn't make any reference to how Detroit got that way, but the implication is Detroit is a hell hole and soon Seattle will join them. Each city is taking different paths to hell, and once you get there does it really make a difference how it happened?

My point was that, since Seattle can NOT be seen as analogous to Detroit-- which your post, above, concedes as a fact-- the mere citing of resigning police officers, & a prospective cut in the police budget, is no reasonable proof, or even really a basis for the speculation, that the affluent city of Seattle will turn into anything resembling the situation of Detroit, which was the OP's thesis.

All you have to do is look at Detroit. That is what happens when you have the far left in control for 50+ years. Something with Chicago.

Seattle is not going the way of Detroit, but many storefront businesses are being priced out by the unaffordable rents.
It's turning from a commercial district to a posh place with overpriced high end condominiums.

What's happening in Seattle is the same thing that's been happening in many other parts of the country: Commercial spaces are being torn down and residential units are being built in its place.
commercial space dissappearing, making way for residential space
Retail space disappearing, giving way to more residential

That, combined with the government-imposed shutdown being very difficult on these businesses.

The city of Seattle has also gone crazy with their police department, which is another issue.

What is going to happen is that people will flee that state and move to another state, bring their ideology, and more importantly their inability to learn from their mistakes and continue the process. In the mean the dems will push for a bailout of places.

OK, so this thread's main point is:
NEWS FLASH-- Dems are the more powerful party in Seattle!
    Real breaking news, there.

The rest of your explanation, if you are correct-- & I'll note that you are not the poster who started the thread, so cannot legitimately speak for Space_Time-- that ALL Democrat-led, big cities will end up bankrupt, seems like the kind of fantastic speculation better-suited to whatever forum encompasses science- fiction ideas.

Actually ironically that is probably one of the main reasons people are NOT leaving Seattle.

A substantial portion of the Seattle younger (25-35 year old) population (maybe as much as 20%) got pushed out of California. So yes, if it wasn't for the population pressures coming from elsewhere, people might have started a net migration away from the Seattle area. But with so many trying to flee the unaffordable prices in the cities in California, it's pushed plenty of population into Seattle.

I agree, let me know what candidates will eliminate govt pensions, starting with their own and we can support them together!

(I'd meant my reply in post #10 to address this reply of yours, but I apparently didn't have it in w/ the other quote, as I'd thought. So here it is, in a repeat post-formance).

I'd hope they might have their eyes opened by the experience, and rethink their ideology, because they would be fools to stay loyal to the same failed ideology somewhere else and expect different results..... but you could be right unfortunately.

What do you think is the effect of a smaller police force on a city? Population of almost 800k people. Less cops. As the article notes, crime has risen. Why has crime risen? Answer is simple, criminals know that cops hands are being tied. Criminals know that the police force is smaller and therefore unable to cover as much ground as before and that due to that there will be longer wait times before police can get to a location. Which means they have a higher chance of getting away.

What's the next effect? Because it doesn't stop there. Higher crime rate means that those that are able to will move out of the city and into more protected areas. That includes business owners.

How many business's is the Seattle Council willing to lose? They're already being sued by business owners for how they dealt with CHAZ.

What does this have to do with the OP's topic? Oh right...nothing. Just more Trump hatred.

    Quick! Look over there!!! ---------->

Don't dare look over here!! You might see something that puts us in a bad light! And that's not possible! We're perfect angels!!!
