Is the crushing of small business and law enforcement intentional?

There are 30 million small businesses in the U.S.

They do not have the capital to withstand illicit lockdowns.
They do not have the access to economies of scale to withstand illicit lockdowns.
They do not have access to elite legal and accounting help to withstand illicit lockdowns.
They do not have politicians in their pocket to withstand illicit lockdowns.

All they have is the Trump movement or something similar which has yet to emerge.

Else their businesses will be converted into large crony company revenues. This is by design. COVID1984 enriches MSM, social media, large crony companies at the expense of the 30 million U.S. small businesses.

These companies, not large public companies, are the street level philanthropists who hold communities together. They fund kid's sports, local culture, charities... in a way that religious institutions used to do in the past.

They are instrumental to local cohesion in a way that fast food chains, buyer's clubs, big box retail chains, social media giants will never be.

When they are gone, the tax base erosion will lead to a world depression of the type never before seen.

Pretty much everything but barber shops, gyms, purely recreation venues and movie theaters were essential businesses in my state. Restaurants were allowed to do carry out and really the "lockdown" wasn't that long. Some businesses elected to close out of a sense of panic that really could have remained opens. Some small business owners already coming up on retirement just decided to shut down completely on their own out of the same fear.

'big box' chain stores pay taxes and employ people that live and consume in your community, but they also tend to buy their stuff from china, so some of your money goes there, and some of it just goes to distant corporate coffers.
Less of the money you spend at these places will be recirculated back to benefit you.

Still are here, though pretty much picked clean, even raggedy old military surplus bolt-actions are flyin' out the doors. A vote of confidence in the system maybe?

I've seen the exact same products in local stores as I see in Walmart.

You appear to be scrambling a little bit.

some say Trump wanted the virus to spread and the reason Trump shutdown the economy is that he knew the economy was failing, and the only way for him to inject trillions into the mega corps was to use the virus crisis to do so, if that did not work, he would blame it on the virus, win\win either way as far as Trump was concerned

I guess I'm not sure what you're point is...? Not everything in Walmart is made in China, and not everything at other stores is sold at Walmart. There will innevitably be some crossover...

What exactly are you getting at?

That whoever is manufacturing in China sells to Walmart and local stores. Local stores do not have their own selection of made in America only products so there is no difference in what store you buy them.

They both hire locally, they both pay taxes locally in fact, big chains generally support their local community more through charity then any small business does.

I think the real question should be why anyone would shop at a mom and pop store.

The small stores around here do actually sell higher quality stuff, often made in America. And they were doing well before covid.

Let's see police budgets gave been cut often drastically in blue ruled cities across the country. In these same cities police are leaving town in drives because they aren't being allowed to do their jobs or even defend themselves. Sounds like defunding to me and worse.

As far as "Defund the Police" goes, that doesn't strike me as any sort of plan, but the result of protest signs from far left groups during the protests that loopy lefty politicians nodded along with, not understanding that these groups were serious. Now that position is embraced by a large section of the Democratic Party.

The shut down was always nonsense that had winners and losers, and small business was a big loser. If they really believed a lockdown would work, they would lock down everything, including grocery stores and gas stations.

That depends exactly how you define "on topic".

I think it's fair to see there is a spectrum of different degrees of how much a discussion is related to the topic, wouldn't you agree?

There's probably 30 different controversial arguments we could get into if we went along with your definition of "on topic". And I think that would pretty much make sure this thread would not have a coherent discussion.

For example, if I'm asking people's opinion if A could be the cause of B and maybe C too, we might disagree that C even exists. Or disagree to the extent that it exists. Then we could argue about whether C exists. Or we could start arguing about if B even matters, why is it so bad?
We've already started to do both of those in this thread.

You might say that's "on topic", but still no one has talked about the possible connection between A and B, which is the whole point that the opening post was asking about.

Are you able to see this? Are you able to see how virtually every single post right now has not addressed the question in the opening post?

Did they give you a badge when you became part of the internet police?

We defunded you by the way.

I'm just sick of disussions that don't go anywhere, and people not understanding the nature of what "on topic" means.

You people ignore the main issue and become distracted by other discussions.

You haven't posted on topic once, do you realize that?

I have at least addressed the OP.

Well, to be fair, you kind of only sidestepped what was being asked in the OP, and asked if it even mattered.

Also, most of my complaining here is not directed at you in particular.

And still not addressing the OP.

Maybe someone should take their own advice.

Better to waste posts complaining then to let an argument go on for several pages that was mostly off-topic.

Again, just to clarify, I don't really think your posts were that off topic, maybe only mildly so. So my complaining is probably 90% not about you.

It just would have been totally stupid to let this discussion turn into the subject about Defund the Police, in a way that wasn't about what the OP was asking.

Maybe this sort of proves that logic and reality are just too complicated to realistically discuss sometimes.
Since the discussion could go in so many different directions, go in several different directions at the same time, and start very controversial arguments.
You can't realistically really do that in one single thread like this.

One question was asked, and it's unfair to start two big arguments that were not really about the specific question that was asked in the opening post.

The OP was asking if the shutdown might have been implemented with the purpose to intentionally cause other effects.
Spooky, all you have basically done is question if those effects would matter.
While 61falcon seemed to try to deny that one of the factors even existed, in what is sort of a totally asinine way, because everyone knows it exists, it's just a matter of to what extent it actually exists, and so the question in the OP would probably still be relevant even if 61falcon were half right. So it's mostly a stupid non-relevant issue he brought up. In my opinion.
If we discussed what he wanted to talk about, that could go on and on, and then we'd never talk about the connection being hypothesized in the OP.

I hate this, because it seems logical explanations are just too long and complicated.
