I'll say this much. The only solutions to the problem aren't legal. If the investors intentionally causing market crashes started showing up dead, it might get the message across.

Private trading makes sense, but public trading is nothing more than a casino that the elite use to rob the working class blind.

Wall Street represents a corrupted version of capitalism, not a free market version. Capitalism doesn't seem to be a problem when it's just a matter of people trading goods and services, but when it comes to corporations manipulating the value of things and getting bailouts from the government, it shows that the system is rigged. Revolution is the only surefire way to change that.

 

No it's simple just stop allowing the short selling.

 

That would only resolve this problem. It would not prevent another 2008-style crash from happening. The only thing significant about this entire mess is that it more blatantly shows how the rules only apply to us plebs. Hedge fund managers can do this nonsense all the time without obstacles, but when a group of Redditors makes a counter move, the elites stop them.

 

You will not have to engineer a Revolution - Social and Economic Collapse will

I changed my mind on AMC.
As for listening to the mob - the hype causes artificial demand, which increases the stock price. That’s how brands work.

 

So, the system is rigged by the big guys? What is new? You have to pound this into the head of Trumpers, because they believe that people are poor because they do not try hard enough, not because they face lack of opportunity caused by outsized wealth and income disparity.

I have no issue with attempts to level the playing field. However, let's get it done at the ballot box, rather than through a revolution. Tearing down a system to fix it doesn't really work. Maybe read the Animal Farm book.

not sure if this has been mentioned but physical copies of games have plenty of life in them since you can buy them very cheap second hand. so it appears a poor gamble of my pension fund.

So much this. There's a book by Maria Konnikova called "The Confidence Game" that covers classic scams and the psychology of the grifter and griftee. Her explanation of how we attribute our skill and ignore the luck involved in stuff like this is what helped me realize using something like Robinhood was not good for me. She uses the stock market in her example, too. Paraphrasing: "That hot stock we didn't buy? We had a hunch it would go up, and see, we should have trusted our instincts. That trade that turned out bad? We knew we should have sold when it was high. We knew that was the peak, but didn't listen to our gut. Or the reverse: we made so much on that particular trade. It's so easy, we can't believe everyone isn't doing it. Nevermind those other times when things didn't work out, we know exactly what we're doing."

I bought some put options for AMC. I’ll be by the exit door of the party handing out the bags to losers who are stupid enough to hold this overhyped stock any longer. It’s real price, considering newly issued stock, should be between $1.50 and $2.00. I’ll either, exercise these options in a month after I buy the stock at its true price, or just sell these options.

Yep, I am sure when poster @HTownMarine makes another trade that goes south, we'll not hear about it on this forum. And he'll rationalize to himself that he was just not careful, or whatever other reason comes to mind to justify the loss. Next time will be different. Me, I can't stomach daily +-30% swings in value. I want to sleep well at night. Therefore, I rather invest in index funds and get a 6-7% return PER YEAR. I won't get super rich, but I won't be poor and I will be financially independent. I don't need a yacht....

 

I've had many trades go south.

But this wasn't one of them, for obvious reasons. If you can't figure out how others knew the stock would continue to rise, well, that's on you.

Pro tip: it will, with 100% certainty, rise again.
