That said, the loss of Alberta bitumen down a pipeline to our Gulf Coast refineries means we have to import feed stock by tanker, and Alberta exports the bitumen that would have gone down Keystone from Vancouver past Puget Sound. The crude cost us more and we have a lot more tanker traffic. Losing Keystone is more important than the jobs lost building it.

Biden threw a bone to the environmentalists who seem more interested in symbols than dealing with climate change. Michigan governor Whitmer started making noises about shutting down Line 5 and Joe said we'll continue using the pipelines we have.

My guess is we'll end up using a new generation of nuclear reactors to generate our baseload power.

 

NAFTA gave us preferred access to Canadian raw materials, second most in the world after Russia. We have a goods and services surplus with them. Adding Mexico was done for American businesses that wanted a nearby source of cheap labor. Nothing was done for Canadians or Mexicans.
