Who is financially suffering? I would say small business owners. Also, the people who work for those, in that they are laid off, just able to get unemployment, then back to work for five minutes and laid off of unemployment, over and over again.

Other than those, who exactly is financially suffering? Many of those on long-term unemployment make more sitting on their butts than they ever made working. The folks who are "working from home" are still making their salaries and fulfilling their fondest dreams too. Those on government money, such as disability, Social Security, etc. are still getting the same checks they always did. And the workers unlucky enough to be considered "essential" are still working and getting paid.

So why do we hear that everyone is suffering and there has to be a several trillion dollar relief package, which we will all eventually have to pay for?? If they want to help the economy, help the small businesses a bit, and then get everything open.

when you consider the demographic that is at highest risk from Covid, the lock downs and masking up makes no sense at all.

This has never been about doing what is right; it's been political and a power grab.

Ask yourself this, would you even consider Biden to head up your small business and be able to meet payroll and understand cash flow? Of course not and the same goes for all of those rascals. So, why do many in this country actually think elected officials, and govt employees have the answers?

Just about everyone in the Cruise Ship industry is hurting. Tens of thousands of airline employees have been laid off and their unemployment would have run out by now if the government hadn’t changed payment rules.

It’s not just government rules that are impacting businesses, there are millions of people around the world who really don’t want to catch the virus. They would have stopped traveling and going to restaurants even without lockdowns.

I personally know 3 people who are Covid Long-haulers, a week in the ICU and what so far looks like permanent damage to their health. It’s no joke. It’s not a hoax.

I definitely feel for these folks. Good that the unemployment rules were changed right at the start, so they don't financially suffer too much.

when you fear monger and use the media to perpetuate the fear mongering, you will get some folks who believe it

IF you can ever step away from your Democrat voting partisanship, listen to npr and then tune into abc/cbs/nbc and then ask yourself; why does all of the news sound like DNC talking points?

I haven't watched TV news shows in years. I simply look at the world and those around me and
reach conclusions. I KNOW people in the airlines who have been laid off. I KNOW people in the cruise line industry who have
been laid off. I KNOW people in the hospitality industry who have been laid off. I KNOW people who have ended up
in the ICU due to Covid. It's not about partisanship, it's about basic reality.

I am not suffering financially. I’m retired. The feds send me money, I’ll take it. It’s a bad idea to send it out to everyone regardless of need. But once the government tries to become the “cure”, we are really in trouble.

I haven't suffered a nickels worth, but Mommy and Daddy didn't raise a fool, if the government wants to send me money for my "suffering" then have at it, I'll even give the mailman 55 cents to cover the postage.

Financially, I'm as well off as I've ever been. So it's not so much of a financial hurt as it is a societal hurt. I miss the days of going to my alma mater's indoor football games with 18,000 fans packed in side by side, eating hot dogs, and drinking beer with my buddies. Going wherever I felt like without wearing a mask or caring about what others wear or don't wear.

I miss our societal freedoms; work when you want to work, go where you want to go, and do what you want to do; without big brother government constantly looking over our shoulders.

Trying to be careful how I say this...seems to me if your income was cut by $50,000 and you can still get by, you aren't really suffering and maybe a bit out of touch with common people. Still, you have my sympathy, because the U.S. was once the land of prosperity, and because of the way the pandemic has been handled, much of the prosperity people worked for all their life is disappearing.

    I admit to this.

For me the hardest part is the toll it is taking on my health and life quality.

I stopped at Sonic and tried one of their new ultimate philly cheesesteaks today. That'll get the economy going in no time.

Unfortunately, the MAJORITY of Americans don't set anything aside for a Rainy Day and live Pay Check to Pay Check. A lot of Americans also get themselves into Dead End Jobs, which they stay at too long, which are really never going to amount to much career wise and then when an Unforeseen Calamity such as this Pandemic hits, it completely destroys them financially. At a much younger Age I got trapped into a Dead End Job and thankfully a friend told me about a Company that was Hiring, so I left a Business I was actually quite proficient at and took a chance and left for a Career In the Energy sector I knew nothing about. Well! 30 Years later, I'm about ready to retire and have built myself up quite a Nest Egg to live the rest of my days on. Right now as I'm writing this, I'm sitting on the Couch working from Home with a Warm Cup of Coffee and my Bunny Slippers on collecting a Paycheck I'm almost embarrassed to admit I get Paid along with my Rentals Income. My Retirement Portfolio is where I'm really making the Big Money, where it's not uncommon for me to see up to $15,000 dollar a day gains that I can pull from anytime I wish, so Life has been Peachy Cream for me, since this Pandemic started as long as I don't get the RONA. Moral of the Story, make a High Paying Career choice that'll keep you in Demand, especially when Disaster Hits, Invest Early and DON'T create a Lifestyle that causes you to live outside your Means.

If life is so great for you, I am sure you don't mind paying your taxes, so that others, who weren't so lucky, can receive unemployment benefits etc.

It's already been said by others that any industry associated with travel and hospitality is suffering. One thing that hasn't been mentioned yet: Higher education. My university lost $25 million just last March to May, because students were sent home and they had to be reimbursed for housing costs. Add to that increased costs for covid countermeasures and testing. Therefore, we've had a hiring freeze for a year now, but that won't even make a dent in the budget deficit. Of course, since higher education is on the Trumper hate list, the GOP does everything in their might to block bailouts to them.

Curiosity prompts me to ask, what is their actual profit/loss regardless of their budget?

Budgets are a smoke screen, and can be very deceptive as to the actual profitability of any entity. I can make a whopper of a budget, and claim 'losses' against that budge when revenue isn't met. Its all BS, if my outlay is also below budget.

It's a state school, so there is no profit. On top of the housing income loss and the additional covid expenses, there is some tuition loss and state funding cuts, so it is a multiple whammy. All that while work due to students needing more handholding during the pandemic actually increased.
