A small struggle in a far off land but with far reaching implications, if Iran's Houthi allies win it means that not only will they control the Straits of Hormuz but the Suez canal too, plus a direct path to attack Saudi and the other Gulf States. It is causing a humanitarian catastrophe but all wars do.

Our tax dollars are supporting genocide against the people of Yemen. Hopefully Biden will cut off all funding for the war.

I condemn that as well. Both parties are infested with warmongers.

I couldn't find a response that fits my attitude.

My feeling is, "You leave us alone and we'll leave you alone. We ask nothing of you, so don't ask anything of the United States." Have a nice day....

There is no 'genocide', just trying to stop Iran's Houthi proxies from taking over the Suez canal and holding the world to ransom, don't believe the propaganda.

That's the Tibet theory and it doesn't work, isolationism is just not feasible in the modern world.

Mmm... I suggest that if we'd employed this "Tibet theory" with numerous other countries and situations since World War II, truly, we'd be in a HELL of lot better overall situation today!

When you 'step in it', it's inevitable that you'll end up 'tracking it all over the inside of your own house'. Vietnam, Central America, Iraq, and Afghanistan, and other somewhat similar 'piles of crap', seem to back this idea up....

"President Joe Biden will announce an end Thursday to U.S. support for a grinding five-year Saudi-led military offensive in Yemen that has deepened human suffering in the Arabian peninsula’s poorest country, national security adviser Jake Sullivan said.

Biden sees the United States “playing a more active and engaged role” to end the war through diplomacy, Sullivan said at a White House briefing before Biden was set to speak at the State Department.

Thursday’s move, which fulfills a campaign pledge, would not affect any U.S. operations against the Yemen-based al Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, or AQAP, group, Sullivan said."

We should remember that as vice-president during the Obama regime, not so very long ago, Biden was all in favor of sending United States military forces to Africa to get involved in all their weird, deadly diseases, "Vietnam-style" adventures, and other big fun. Is ol' Joe any smarter today than he was in that time-frame...?

Believe this if nothing else, the last (LAST) thing we in the United States need to be sticking our necks into now is another big Middle Eastern pile of crap. Did Iraq teach us nothing? Don't we have anything better to blow billions more dollars on now...?

Hell, as of just over a week ago, ol' Joe said he's committing FOUR BILLION dollars to give to the dictators of Central America! Exactly what kind of tree do "Progressive" Democrats think money GROWS ON...? :spin:

You cannot just say "Pull up the drawbridge and everyone will leave us alone", that's not how the world works. Also no one is arguing for direct military intervention, just backing.

Yes, "backing"... to the tune of how many billions of dollars that we DON'T HAVE?! Maybe I remember how we slid down into the huge Vietnam War pile of sh!t too well. We gave the South Vietnamese government our backing (more and more of it over the years), and then when that wasn't enough, we sent troops. And then we sent more troops. And then we sent yet MORE troops. You know the rest....

Bear in mind that, in the background, the Iranians are 'working like Trojans', preparing their entry into the "nuclear" club with hydrogen bombs sitting on top of ICBM's. AND, they'll have the implicit backing (and protection) of both Russia and China!

It's one thing when you have confidence that you can eviscerate an enemy with impunity, but we aren't the United States that used to project real power throughout the world. No. We're the United States of the 21st-century, with hardly anything in common with what America WAS when America really WAS "great"....

    Looks like it's going the other way, Joe Biden is apparently no longer regarding the Houthis as a terrorist organisation. People's whose motto is;
" Allah is Greater, Death to America, Death to Israel, Curse on the Jews, Victory to Islam"

If there has to be a war, let the Saudis fight it out with Iran, or an alliance between Israel and the Saudis. If IRAN is the problem (and, yeah, it is) then let the Saudis and a 'coalition' of their own making deal with it. At this point, we, the U. S., "don't have a dog in this fight".

If we were going to get involved in yet ANOTHER damned war in the Middle East, let it be with the one country that poses the greatest threat to us, the United States! And that is clearly IRAN! Right now, in 2021, we could fight such a war and win it in less than three weeks using nothing but AIR POWER -- no American "boots-on-the-ground", period!

Sobering realization: with radical, America-hating Democrats running our government now, we should expect that Iran will be in possession of thermonuclear hydrogen bombs and ICBM's to deliver them with by 2025. To say the least, this, uh, 'complicates' matters....

No one is advocating boots on the ground beyond some CIA sneaky beaky types but you have to keep backing the opposition.

I'm perfectly fine with the CIA and other "Mission Impossible-esque" men-in-black using "dark money" to raise hell with the Iranians through any channel they find useful. I just don't ever want to see another damned "Vietnam" in my lifetime -- especially after what we're STILL going through in Iraq AND Afghanistan.

After all these years (really since 1979), we're still 'dancing' with Iran... and it's absolutely inexplicable. We should have just bombed it FLAT decades ago, but now, if nothing is 'done' about Iran in the next five years, it may NEVER be possible to defend ourselves and our allies against this insane gaggle of malignant islamo-nazi 'priests' and their stooges again....

So far the USA is not importing foreign oil other than for shipping convenience offsets, so this is one fight we don’t need to get into.
The only reason we should decide to go in would be to destroy the Iranian Republican Guard once and for all, facilitating the toppling of the Iranian regime. But Trump lacked the political will to do that. He preferred economic squeezing instead.

Why be Saudi Arabias, OAE, etc, hit team when there is nothing in it for us?

Yemen is 55% Sunni and 45% Shia, so I doubt that the Houthis could ever really consolidate power and actually govern Yemen.

Also, the U.S. and western powers have the power to keep the Straits open. The Houthis would be no match for our naval and air power if they attempted to do something stupid to disrupt that waterway.

The article you linked to says we will continue our efforts against Al Qaeda in Yemen. AQ is our enemy, and I support those efforts. These are targeted raids or air strikes on high value AQ targets.

Given that the Houthis are Iran’s proxies, the situation is worth keeping an eye on. No one wants to see an all out victory in Yemen by an Iranian proxy. But I don’t think the Houthis could achieve a victory like that, and Yemen is not our country, and I don’t think we want to get too stuck in the quicksand of another war in the Mideast.

If the Saudi’s want to involve themselves in that war, they can, but I think we should stay out of it. These Sunni-Shia wars are endless, and that should not be our problem.

If the US indirectly supports Saudi Arabia, with everything that the US has been currently doing up to this point, then that has to be seen as practically the same thing as supporting the war against Yemen.

Half the weapons in the war Saudi Arabia has been waging in Yemen were made in the US, approved by the US for sale to Saudi Arabia not that long ago.
