Is this twice impeached vile man-child the best the GOP can put up for candidate for president in the 2024 election?!!

Even if Trump is the GOP's candidate, I can't see him winning, who the hell wants to go back to chaos, incompetence, lawlessness, corruption, cronyism, and lies and deceit?!! Trump could not do the job as president, why would he want it back???[IMG]

Donald Trump will reportedly tell the Conservative Political Action Conference in Florida this week he is the man to drain the Washington swamp – as Republicans’ “presumptive 2024 nominee”

Trump will address CPAC on Sunday, his subject the future of the Republican party. On Monday, citing anonymous sources, the news site Axios reported his plan to assume the mantle.

An unnamed “longtime adviser” was quoted as saying Trump’s speech to the rightwing event will be a “show of force” with the message: “I may not have Twitter or the Oval Office, but I’m still in charge.”

A named source, close adviser Jason Miller, said: “Trump effectively is the Republican party. The only chasm is between Beltway insiders and grassroots Republicans around the country. When you attack President Trump, you’re attacking the Republican grassroots.”

I'm (obviously) not a registered republican. So I can't claim any 'say' in the direction the party chooses to take. But I continue to believe that everyone gets the candidate they deserve. That goes for the right and left.

I bet he is itching to go back to campaigning full time. Must be hard to live without the crowds of adoring fans that cheer every single one of his lies.

He can tell CPAC whatever he feels like. It doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.

My take is this is a ploy so he can keep raising money for his PAC. Money that can be spent on pretty much anything he damn pleases...........like legal defense.

I think it is a smart move on his part to help bring in the money and it is a smart move on the GOP part to let him continue with that delusion until the midterms or reality smacks him in the face.

I'd rather see Candice Owens as the candidate. The right needs to start playing the color game. Dear God, please don't let it be trump. he is gonna split up votes IMO

I would LOVE to see Dirty Donnie run for ANY office, including president, in the next 4 years. The entertainment value would be epic.

Candace Owens is young and really has no track record to speak of. Making a living from Grift-PAC or wherever she works isn't a good resume enhancer in my book.

As for the other issue, there is no way for the GOP to outplay the left at the color game. For the people for whom that's the number one issue, they are almost all on the left. You're not really going to pull South Carolina Black church ladies to Owens just because they share the same skin tone. They don't like interracial marriages and probably regard Owens as a traitor.

I would love to see him run for a House seat from Florida, then if the GOP wins the House in 2022, have the majority GOP elect him as Speaker of the House.

It would be a great, and hilarious, come back story!

I think I’ll just wait and see what he says rather than obsessing over the ramblings of “a person familiar with . . .” Are you going to be there or listen to it?

If the Republicans want to nominate Trump in 2024, that's their folly. The GOP needs to take a good deep look at itself. It needs to realize that it is still the smaller of the two major parties. That the Republican Party can't win general elections without winning the independent vote which it won in 2016, lost in 2018 and 2020. Independents don't like Trump much to say the least. Even keeping Trump around as a nominal head of the GOP could doom them in elections to come.

Sure, come 2022, Trump endorsed candidates may very well win the Republican nomination. For what that may be worth. But then they have to win in the general for that nomination to mean anything. That may be rather difficult if independents view those GOP candidates as Trump surrogates. Who knows?

Biden and company may save the Republicans in 2022 if they make independents angry at them as they did in 1994 and 2010. If the Democrats do that, then the dislike for Trump may be mitigated. Time will tell.

If I were a Democrat, I also would take a good deep look at the 2020 election results. Sure, Biden won the presidency by 7 plus million votes. But down ballot the Democrats lost 13 house seats, 2 state legislatures and a governorship. The overall results certainly don't point to a mandate for the Democrats. It doesn't point to an acceptance or endorsement of their policies. 2020 was the first time since 1884 where a party's candidate won the popular vote via the presidency and lost house seats. Not a stinging endorsement of Democratic ideals, policy or anything else. What 2020 showed was the people wanted Trump gone, that's all. It was nothing more than an rejection of Trump, but neither an endorsement nor rejection of either party's ideals and policy.

If I were a Republican, I'd be looking at the fact that Republican congressional candidates received more votes than Trump, a higher percentage. But if the GOP wants to bring back Trump, that's their problem.

Trump needs Tulsi Gabbard as his Vice president. She would make him appeal to the moderates on the left and right. I think her and Trump would actually agree on a lot, but she isn't as showy and can be a stabilizing factor in his compaign.

Of course, being a female and Samoan, native Hawaiian, could only help.
She is a strong candidate any way you shake it.

We are looking for Trump to run in a FL Congressional election, win, and then take over the Speakership as the GOP will likely regain majority control in 2022.

Trump got more done in one term than most presidents get done in two. He's likely maxed out what President can accomplish, but he hasn't even started what a Speaker can accomplish. I'd like someone to take a fresh look at what is called "non-discretionary" spending and "baseline budgeting". A fresh set of eyes like Trump's is likely just what the country needs.

Congress has also wrapped the Presidency into so many rules, that the President cannot even stop his own Executive Branch from illegally spying on him, that clearly is an area of opportunity for a self-governing people to reassert control over their own government.

It seemed like there were Executive Branch folks that Trump couldn't fire, but the Speaker can impeach? Seems weird that the head of another branch of government has more control over the Executive Branch than the President, but, we just need a Speaker that will roll up their sleeves, look under the hood, and start fixing some of the things that need to be fixed.

Speaker isn't term-limited, so, might be just the spot where Trump can take this country to the next level.

Go for it. I'll talk about who I want to talk about. Conflating criticism with emotion is a failure by whoever is making such a claim.

It's quite telling that Trump supporters have a blindness for dishonesty and criminal activity that surpasses absolutely anything in history.

Go Felons ! It does, however, have drawbacks when running a political campaign outside of a prison.

I doubt he will be in any financial shape to run again. If by some strange occurence he does, well, all I can say is a fast Kill would to get Obama Warming up in the bullpen.

Now I know that his wife would not allow it. The question is, When Trump sees what he may be up against, will Trump have what it takes to call? Keep in mind there is nothing in the rule book that says a POTUS cant step down (like in the 1st 100 days) and have the VP take over

Anyway, all this is a big IF but what is disturbing is the fact that most of the GOP have proven to be cowards when protecting this country from dictatorship behavior. And since the modern day GOP have shown their impotence, the left better be prepared to do whatever it takes to protect this us from a resurrected dictatorship
