Jemele Hill: National Anthem No Longer Belongs in American Sports

The more the Sports Journalist Jemele Hill opens her mouth, the more anti-American she proves herself to be.

The former ESPN host wrote, "Playing 'The Star-Spangled Banner" at sporting events has become an empty gesture of patriotism."

After the NBA disabused Mark Cuban for canceling the National Anthem at the beginning of games, Jemele declared that "the Maverick's should have held their ground" to continue banning the "White Supremacist" anthem.

She continued to say, "we live in a time when many people--including many athletes of color--are deeply uncomfortable with how patriotic symbols have been weaponized to undermine and diminish the humanity of Black and brown Americans."

Some of the most racist people here in America are anti white blacks like this woman. Imagine that, we see here yet another in a long line of blacks (including those pushing for this 1619 date) to substitute for America's real founding date pushing this ridiculous notion that we praise/fly our flag and sing the National Anthem at the expense of these woefully smitten racist ignorant blacks.

The American flag doesn't belong at sporting events either. And no more Blue Angels or other military plane flyovers either. We don't need privileged multi-millionaires telling us what a bad country this is.

 

Does she have an opinion on playing the black anthem before the games?

And how does an openly racist person like her get to keep her job when some professor got canned or suspended for saying a Chinese word that sounds like the N word?

 

Why do they lump "brown and black together"? If anything, brown people live there life more like white people IMO. They probably just do it so they can put everyone against the whites, but in reality, the browns conduct themselves way closer to how whites do

Honest question. For those that think that the national anthem should be played before sporting events could you tell me why? I can understand it being played before an international game or during the Olympic medal presentation but why before an NFL game? Do people play the anthem at home before watching the game if the networks cut that part out? Should it be played at all high school or college sporting events? Should it only be limited to sports? Should it be played at businesses at the start of business day? Should it be played before other events like concerts, movies, theater, campaign rallies, weddings, church service, town halls, etc...

 

She’s not all that wrong on this at least in regards to how many act during the anthem. I’ve lost count of the number of people who, during the anthem at a sporting event, are talking, drinking, eating, still have a hat on, ordering food at concession stand, etc.

 

It's a tradition, it's who we are. And it should be played where ever it's been traditional to play it. There's a radio station by me that plays the anthem every morning at 6:25.

 

Thanks, that sort of makes some sense to why I was blind to the reason. Not huge on doing things for tradition sake and my whole career is center around new ways of solving old problems but I can respect others need to follow tradition.

 

You entirely missed the point of the OP. This black woman said the National Anthem should be banned because its really the "White Supremacist" Anthem. Do you agree with her comment on this?

 

I didn’t miss her point. I provided my own point. And no, I don’t agree with her.

 

Why is it even a topic, it only lasts for a few minutes at most and as a rule most who perform it do a good job. It won't hurt anyone to put their hand on their heart for a few minutes.

 

As long as the US Government (we the people) are not paying for the sport to perform, we have have no right to tell them whether they have to play the national anthem. . Whether the players kneel or whatever, is between them and the franchise owners. If they choose not to play the National Anthem and require the players to behave properly, we should not provide any military fly overs, paradrops or anything else which costs taxpayer money.

It is also my right not to watch those over paid Prima Donnas or otherwise support them in any way. I consider the franchise owners and the players behavior to be obscene.

 

I long for the day when we can be of our former glory. Watching videos like this makes me sad that about half the country (Democrats) are unpatriotic, and hate the National Anthem, along with the country itself.

You think the US is nothing more than traditions? We are defined by the Constitution, not flags or traditions.

By your logic, the capitol mob should have attacked a ball game if they wanted to overthrow the government.

 

We are defined by the Constitution, flags, and tradition. Neither is mutually exclusive from the other. The framework of the Constitution is built on traditions; it was not created in a vacuum, and some of our traditions are flavored by the Constitution.

 

I'm white and I feel the same way. The trump cult has usurped American symbols for their own. It was so bad that after trump was elected that I couldn't even look at an American flag without wanting to puke. I can only imagine how people of color feel given how faux patriotism was used against them.

You can lose the traditions and the flags and this would still be the US as long as the Constitution is preserved. You are arguing nonsense. And I'm sorry but no, there is nothing in the Constitution about playing a song at a ballgame.

Traditions are culture, not country. Now I understand your confusion. This is about stepping on other cultures which is why they feel offended.
