Is there any work that you have paid to have done that would have cost the same the year that income tax passed?

It's crystal clear that there are people who would LOVE to have portions of their tax burden shifted to people who are poor by any measure that you care to apply.

They get their yacht. Some family gets evicted.

Take a look at what the GOP is doing TODAY wrt the COVID disaster that has so devestated portions of our economy. Even though a vast majority of Americans, including Republicans sees this aid as important, we have the GOP working HARD to stop this expenditure and allow families to go hungry and even be evicted.

At the same time, they promote tax breaks for the hugely wealthy, such as they were able to achieve under Trump.

You are ignoring the FACT that those on low income would NOT have chosen that purchase if they were not REQUIRED BY LAW to do so.

And, I find that especially disgusting from YOU, who proclaims in strident terms how YOU don't like paying for things that YOU wouldn't have chosen to buy.

The poor don't pay income taxes how can they be shifted to them? But this is about the claim that the highest earners want everyone else to be poor and I asked

And why is it an advantage for them that everyone else be poor, how is that in their own self interest? How is it better for them?

And that empty apartment pays for their yacht how? You really think that successful person who risk a whole lot to build those apartments and has LOTS of their wealth invested in just sits on the back of their yacht salivating over how many people they evicted today and how many empty apartments they now have?

Which helped create one of if not the best economy we have seen in modern history especially for the lower income groups and minorities but you just can't seem to stand that. And now with the COVID bill the Republicans don't want huge handouts to people who don't need them like government workers and union workers who have not lost a paycheck but instead go to to those who actually NEED it and then getting those people back to work. Why wouldn't you support that?

How so? The middle class pays only a small portion of income tax revenues.

What?? I was talking about RATES and drifting brackets.

Tell me with all the claims about the middle class getting screw with the tax rate cuts for the high earners.

After the Gingrich/Kasich and then Bush43 tax rate cuts "for the wealthy" who got screwed

No law requires them to buy gas. They buy gas so they can drive their cars on the roads and that is how the pay for the usage of the roads on which they drive. If they don't want to use the roads then don't and they don't pay for them.

Taxes can easily be shifted to the middle class where people still spend pretty much their entire paychecks. Plus, costs can be moved to use taxes for products that are not discretionary - such as gas tax.

You misinterpreted the question. It's not that rich people WANT poor people to be poor.

It's just that they are willing to benefit themselves, including when it makes our middle class and below even worse off than they are today.

Your last paragraph is a scramble of assumptions and nonsense.

Our design of transportation and our economy require people to buy gas.

Numerous industries that involve low pay depend on workers buying gas - house cleaning, landscape maintenance, delivery services, etc., etc.

Also, we require personal transportation for various required activities such as food shopping, commuting, etc.

... or were you just being rude?

Agreed, but why does everyone keep leaving out the "lower middle class" and the "working poor"?

You can walk. You can ride a bike. But if you are going to drive a car on the public roads then you will pay your fair share of that road use through the excise tax on a gallon of gas. Nothing rude about it.

I asked the question and got a clear answer "yes". The rich want everyone else to be poor. And I asked how does that benefit them? Why is it to their advantage that every else be poor.

Then I asked you about you claim they want to evict poor people so they can have their yachts. Still waiting for you to explain why having to evict people and having empty apartments if an advantage for them and makes them enough money to be on that yacht.

And my last paragraph was a direct response to your post. Here I'll break it up for you.

Which [the Trump tax and business policies] helped create one of if not the best economy we have seen in modern history especially for the lower income groups and minorities but you just can't seem to stand that.

And now with the COVID bill. The Republicans don't want huge handouts to people who don't need them like government workers and union workers who have not lost a paycheck but instead go to to those who actually NEED it and then getting those people back to work.

    Why wouldn't you support that?

actually, fuel tax is inequitable. If you recall when we last had leftist utopia, the taxpayers subsidized folks who bought electric and hybrid vehicles. The buyers got $7,500 of taxpayer dollars and then used the roads just as much, and paid less or no fuel tax. So, in addition to taxpayers shelling out $7,500 per vehicle, drivers of internal combustion engine vehicles had to carry a larger load of road tax

    Another example of incompetent politicians

My guess is that demographic historically doesn't vote and has fewer dollars to spend so it's easier to ignore them (the problem).

Why do you think it happens?

for some reason, Democrat voters think that there is a finite amount of money and that you must take from the wealthy in order for others to get more money. There are no guarantees in the USA and in life, there are winners and losers.

Actually, the aforementioned actually do vote, despite making a working day the only day to vote. This is why the GOP controlled states and cities make a concerted effort to suppress that vote (gerry mandering, voter suppression tactics). It's been proven that the more people vote, the worse the GOP does. I just get tired of this mythology that the middle class exists in an economic vacuum, and that the folk I mentioned are of no consequence.

Complete fiction on your part. If you do your history homework, you'll find that when the wealthy had a higher tax rate in the USA they got along just fine, and that new millionaires came along with periodic certainty. Once you initiate the nonsense of "reaganomics", the national coffers run low, and guess who has to pick up the slack? As to your "winners and losers" crack, maybe you weren't in the country when "too big to fail" became a mandate.

Huh? Do you think that you are posting in a thread about INCOME TAX???

You are not. Please re-read the thread. It's about going back and taxing folks who in the opinion of Democrat politicians, have too much stuff.

How in the heck can you even defend that? Are you that far gone to socialism already?

Stop the knee-jerk reaction of defending all things Democrat.

Generally speaking, the lower the income, the less likely one is to vote. However, I do agree with you that the GOP does everything it can to make voting difficult and/or downright impossible for eligible voters to participate in the process. And, it's not likely to get better anytime soon.

I think you ought to think a little about how the rich got that way. Most did it by building a business - finding a niche or demand and taking a risk to try to fill it. Some succeeded, some didn’t. Those that did and continued to grow created jobs for others, so unlike your premise of them taking money away from ordinary people they actually provided wages for them.
