I'm sure when he gave this lecture he was thinking advanced space ships and not critical race theory. The left's idea of progress is segregation and hate, not actual real technical progress, which unfortunately, 100% invalidates your little message in your signature

I wonder how you read all this from my post. because my post didn't mention illegals, or masks working only standing up, but not sitting down. Where do you get all this from? BTW: My kids would be excited to hear that most schools are still closed. In reality, they have classwork and homework every day.

There was a time in the history of the world, when there were no liberals, no progressives. Everyone, everywhere lived in a conservative society and no one questioned it enough to break out of it. Then the Catholic Church was challenged, 500 years ago or so, its power split across Europe between competing upstart churches, allowing a philosophical movement to emerge and develop between the cracks. A movement often referred to as the Enlightenment. In Scotland, it took a radical turn and forever changed the world. It was the efforts of people like James Watt, William Cullen, David Hume, and Adam Smith who brought forth a new way of looking at the world. A humanist society, that developed along the ideas of the scientific, thus empirical methods, with an economic system that has come to be called Capitalism. Americans like Benjamin Rush and Thomas Jefferson were intimately linked with the new ideas coming out of Scotland.

This is where liberalism began. At the time, the term freeman was often often used, not because of slavery, but because of indentured servitude. It was common for poor families to sell their daughters to wealthy households, to be a servant, such as a maid or cook. Boys would be sold into apprenticeships. In both cases they would be owned by their masters until either they had worked off their “debt” or they had gained sufficient skill to be elevated out of their lowly position. Benjamin Franklin’s dad sold him to Ben’s older brother. Many English and European immigrants had come to America by selling themselves into indentured servitude. Often taking a decade to work off their debt. It was liberalism that pushed the idea that all men should be free of a chattel existence. One of the elements of Adam Smith’s ideas was that employees are paid wages, rather than held in servitude. After one’s work is done for the day, one is free to do whatever one wants.

From its dramatic introduction as the US burst onto the scene, followed by the explosion of the French Revolution turned the world upside down, the forces of liberalism have been fighting off conservatism ever since, pushing it further and further back into history, into the third world, watching its significance fading into nothingness.

I’m sure your post says a great deal more about you than it does about the actual Left.

The lecture, I might add, is one those things that helped steer me into a career in R&D, developing products, mostly products that I would characterize as intelligent machines. Many that have advanced the human condition, made people’s lives better.

"Hypocrisy"?? Really? Did you realize that while every major cable news network was broadcasting the Senate hearing with FBI Director Christopher Wray about the January 6 Capitol attack, Fox News was talking about "cancel culture" and Dr. Seuss?? And they claim to be about "news"?

But no, you would rather complain about unions.

Interesting how you like developing products but support a party that outsources most of this type of work to other countries.

    U. S. capitalist companies outsource their manufacturing to countries with cheaper labor driven by the object of capitalism which is PROFITS. The less you pay to create a product ehich still has broad customer appeal the more you can charge and PROFIT from it's sale. GREED CONQUERS ALL.

Let me 'correct' this, liberals do not by my admission 'have' the tech industry, we never 'had' the media industry but I will give you the teachers union. There is social liberalism, economic liberalism and philosophical liberalism and the messy truth is that they do not sprout up like single grass species in carefully manicured lawns of industry.

To the OP, its as American as apple pie for 'social vehicles' to decide its their privledge to do what they want with their property, decide who is a member in good standing, that gets to borrow that property, occupy space there, or use the tools and things there and under what rules. Whether it is defined as business or a social vehicles, this actually very traditionally conservative set of beliefs and values, so where I see the hypocrisy is by conservatives who fought and undermined any tools to level the playing field towards inclusiveness, now whining about how this all turned out on the internet now that Facebook and Twitter exist.

I don't get to go into the local Grange hall or F H club ( politically and culturally conservative 'social vehicles'/ spaces or as they used to be called in the brick and mortar world - clubs. Places of worship also fulfill this role in conservative America) and ignore their rules, spout off offensive, disruptive and divisive crap with a microphone purchased with Grange Hall funds, at every meeting and demand that they allow me to remain a member and let show up next week to disrupt their meeting by screaming the same crap and you American Nationalist, do not want me to be able to do that at tomorrow's Grange Hall meeting. Their rules are their rules at their meeting, in their clubhouse and I am supposed to create my own 'social vehicle', if I don't like it. That always was the traditional conservative answer for this problem.

Now if you want to see this as a problem as an anti-trust issue, and social high tech media as corporations and businesses, I am delighted to discuss how we can address any monopolistic impediments to more business competition so that there are more options for consumers. I never left and never wavered. You can thank Reagan and Bush even Clinton administration for watering down protections. If you want to talk about social media 'vehicles', I think that traditional conservative approach is best. Quit the club, wave some placards about discrimination in front for the cameras, if you want, then get your own clubhouse, your own membership list and make your rules.

Liberty "University" is almost as much of a joke as Trump "University." For years Jerry Falwell Jr. handed out worthless degrees, while accumulating a total of $100,000,000. To amuse himself he watched the Pool Boy have sex with his wife.

During the 2016 presidential primary Ted Cruz made what has become an obligatory visit to Liberty "University" by Republican presidential candidates. He gave a speech mimicking John Lennon's song "Imagine." One of his imagines was "Imagine five job offers by graduation." The implication was that if he was elected president, the job market would be so good that Liberty "University" graduates would be given five job offers before they graduate. What happens instead is that they send out hundreds of resumes and get five form letters explaining that the company does not have any openings for Bible Studies Majors.

This is the second post along this line I have seen. It seems to reflect partisan animus more than the facts. LU is fully accredited and has some respectable ratings. It's obviously not to everyone's taste, but we call that diversity of choices.
And before the assumptions begin, I'm neither religious nor a Trump voter, but I respect accuracy.

I just find hypocrisy in relatively poor taste(even though I know we're all inherently hypocritical) but even if that's the case, we should proudly own it instead of acting all vain and stuff.

The greater danger to this argument is this: Never before has "You're free to do whatever you want"(within the law) been interpreted to mean: "Let's ostracize those we disagree with as Nazis, etc." destroying careers, getting people fired, etc. And what this is leading to, and what your suggestion suggests is that America will be an enclaved nation. Each of us in our own little tribes, reverting ironically back to a 1954 type of society.

Is that really progress or is that taking a step back?

But you're assuming 1.) a take all system for power. Why can't the 'conservatives' not learn and use the ideas of liberals? Isn't that the point of democracy for the minority to learn from the majority? 2.) That conservatives are going to lose. So what? Why does that matter?

I don't think I'm assuming a take-all system for power, I think it's been rather abundant in its apparent nature. It was the ideal of the framers that power would be shared but human nature is dominance and conquest and that's sadly no different here. And of course conservatives could learn to use the ideas of liberals to their advantage, I'm just saying that if/when they do, Liberals will call foul that they're supposedly "oppressed" despite having majority power.

It's the same as from 2008-2016. The people get scrap, the bills they write don't work and they blame conservatives for their own party failed leadership.

Um I don't even have a clue what to do with this post. You realize I am gay, right? You realize what life was like ( and sometimes still is) for gays in smaller towns rural conservative areas, right? You realize that gays were sometimes members of the Grange, Boy Scouts, the local Baptist church, or the bowling league who were outed and have been ostracized, fired, displaced from housing, or lost access to their own children and they were no longer welcome at the Grange meeting, the church, or the bowling league. Conservatives never ever saw all that as 'the greater danger' when it was us. They saw the threat to liberty and personal freedom as the big risk. If I marched for gay rights, I might be a social pariahs and expected to just deal with it, move, or create more inclusive spaces in our own social venues and hope someone else joined.

First, I'm sorry for what you and others in the LBGT Community have gone through. It's truly a tragedy that any member of our American family should endure mistreatment by a fellow citizen and that's what this comes down to. I don't think it's "payback" or proper if we give people the same unequal treatment. Rather, I find that it continues to wound everybody and it brings to mind the old saying: "Misery loves company"

It sure does, so let's try being a little less miserable to everyone. I'll do my part too.

In that spirit lets first put aside accusations of hypocrisy based on ideology and see it as a waste of time on this issue. Next, lets find out what you want to do as a matter of public policy about this. I do NOT support using the paycheck as a weapon whether it is a boycott or a pink slip based on unpopular or offensive speech as a rule. I don't want bigots or homophobes or conservatives fired for expressing just that outside of work I do support a right for people to assemble with like minded people in clubs or forums or churches etc, and exclude others and discriminate even based on race, orientation or gender and normally politics. I personally would never be a member of an organisation (unless it is by definition political) that did, and I would oppose such efforts internally to toss out conservatives or republicans otherwise. But I think you are talking about twitter or facebook etc and so what more do you want beyond these rules that apply to that Grange or bowling league or the Kiwanis club?

Vague eneralities. Your OP is poorly framed.

You didn't really state what your beef is. Be specific.

If you make a claim, and base an argument on it, back it up, first then base your argument on it. If you give an opinion, give some specific well known examples, if you don't want to source it.

Give some citations, all I'm seeing is a piss poor rant that is built on vague generalities and assumptions.
