Full title: Arizona House Passes Anti-Mask Bill After GOP Sponsor Points Out Masks Weren’t Needed For AIDS During 80s

I'm not sure how masks would have helped curb the AIDs crisis in the 80s but, apparently, this lawyer's argument worked.

    What do you think?

AIDS is not a respiratory disease so masks don't help....

Which is why I don't understand how that argument worked to get them to pass the bill.

I mean masks are a perfect metaphor for conservative response to AIDS. They knew what would help but instead they decided to ignore the problem and hope it went away on its own, despite the fact that thousands of people were dying, waiting for the president to even acknowledge their deaths.

My only quibble with that assessment was that conservatives 'hoped it would go away'. Some did. Plenty just hoped it would only kill people they didn't care about or who 'deserved it'. Some, including the late & unlamented Rush Limbaugh, actively cheered AIDS deaths. I'm sure the dittoheads all nodded along & smiled.

It turns out that attitude has also been applied to COVID, with the main change that the people the ydon't care about turn out to be everyone except them as individuals (and possibly select family members....possibly). It doesn't take a very wide reading of comments to see this attitude repeated time & again. They don't care who dies & how many as long as the ycan get a haircut & don't have to wear a mask.

There was a survey done when the US death toll was only 180,000. A solid majority of Republican voting respondents said that 180,000 was 'about right'. My bet is that if you had taken that poll any time before Trump lost the election similar numbers would have agreed that the current figure was 'about right'. I don't know how high tha tnumber would have to have been to change that, but I doubt ten times the current number would make much of a dent. Those people quite literally don't matter, like people with AIDS didn't.

Oh come on everyone take it easy on the guy. If he had any intelligence he wouldn't have been an anti-masker in the first place.

Reagan's reaction to being told that his biological warfare divisions had ****ed up and originated a disease that killed mainly gays and drug users, "You couldn't get it to work on the ******s too?"

Basically. They just kept broadening the categories of people who don't matter until it contained pretty much everyone not looking back at them in the mirror. Apparently they think this is some sort of philosphy rather than just a sort of adolescent nihilism.

Rugged individualism is the principal maintaining that the best way to look out for everyone is to look out for yourself. It does not advocate the total breakdown of civilization.

There are plenty. That is why they have two Dem Senators and voted for Biden.

The Arizona GOP, on the other hand, seems to have been ODing on stupid pills since John McCain died.

Or in the entire American electorate? I maintain that our methods of selecting candidates for our high offices need serious work but am at a loss as to what comprehensive reforms in this area are possible without endangering Democracy.

Masks do not stop the airborne transmission of the flu virus, and that's been demonstrated many times in lab tests here in the US.

There is ample empirical evidence that it does not stop the airborne transmission of SARS Covid either.

There is no constitutional authority for any government to tell the citizen what items of clothing he must wear.

Good for the Arizona legislature for allowing common sense and science to play a role in their deliberations.

masks of course help stop the transmission of the aibrone flu virus, as well as covid.

demonstrably false. I just listed 35 separate peer reviewed papers showing otherwise.
yes there is. It's why you can't walk down a public street naked.
    science specifically shows masks work.

I know many who've become infected while wearing a mask. So much for your Google Scholar, a propaganda tool if there ever was.

Masks, like condoms, are not 100% effective. But I've proven to you that they help prevent the spread of the flu and covid.
uh, your anecdotal story has no effect on any of the 35 peer reviewed papers I gave you. The fact of the matter remains, masks help prevent the transmission of covid.

When everything the American people believe is false we will know the success of our misinformation efforts.

Nobody demonstrates that any better than Rahl.

I am not opposed to the Arizona legislature for making this decision. Each state has the right to make their own rules governing their people.

My point in posting this is the silly argument that masks weren't used to combat the AIDs crisis. Why would they be since AIDs, itself, is not transmitted through airborne particulates?

Tighten up on laws concerning backscratching, for a start.
and tighten up on how much money each candidate can spend on an election.
and use far more fact checkers in media coverage.
