Biden to sign order expanding voting rights on Bloody Sunday anniversary

Expanding voting rights for people seems like a no-brainer. However, those that don't want certain demographics to vote are doing all they can to impede the progress. It's similar to people believing in the right to free speech unless the person speaking doesn't agree with them. When will people understand that everyone of legal age has the right to participate in the democratic process of voting?

    What do you think?

Was just wondering if I could go 60 seconds on the internet before I would be reminded how horrible white people are/were. Didn't take me half that time.

These stories that keep coming up about voter surpression. Like showing a photo ID is white supremacists trying to make it hard for black people to vote. Is it because black people take bad photos?

The OP is about Biden signing an EO to expand voter rights. Nothing in that article or my comment to it mentions white supremacy.

You guys might recall where I told you my ex said that to be part of the democrat party you have to sell your soul to them. Biden doesn't have any more elections left in him, so the ONLY reason why he's doing this is to guarantee democrats keep getting votes every way possible. I'll bet that before he leaves office someone from his admin or another democrat in congress will float the idea of allowing illegals to vote.

Can you help me understand how advocating for people to exercise their right to vote is wrong/bad, etc.?

Sorry, my bad. Let Biden expand voting rights to people who are afraid to get their pictures taken then. See if I care, the country is gone to hell already.

Republicans aren't fighting Democrats. They're fighting democracy.
    www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2021/03/...

The Republican Party’s dalliance with authoritarianism can be explained in one word: race.

Trump’s overt racism turned the GOP into, essentially, a white-nationalist party, in which racial animus is the main motivator of Republican voters. But in an increasingly multicultural America, such people don’t form a majority. The only route to power for a white-nationalist party, then, is to become anti-democratic: to keep non-White people from voting and to discredit elections themselves. In short, democracy is working against Republicans — and so Republicans are working against democracy.

According to white, right-wing bigots, the expansion of the civil rights movement is a threat to white people, such as myself. Somehow, the concept of "liberty and justice for all" is anti-white.

I'm trying to understand your point of view. Who is afraid to get their picture taken? What does that have to do with this article or EO?

Democrats don’t do anything unless it benefits democrats and only democrats. Can we place strict regulations on voting rights like we have on our second amendment rights?

I've heard the same thing said about Republicans.

What kind of regulations on voting rights do you think are important?

People are trying to convince me it's white supremacy voter suppression to require a photo ID to vote. I think they're trying to punk me who doesn't has a photo ID these days? What's your view?

I'm forwarding your post to the DNC, they may have an obedience prize to award you.

OK. None of that conversation happened in this thread so I didn't understand your comments. I also don't understand your comment about black people taking bad photos or being afraid to have their photo taken.

I haven't heard anyone say that it's white supremacy voter suppression to require a photo ID to vote so I can't speak to that.

Proving who you are in person.

If I can mail in a ballot with no proof of voting eligibility, can do the same with acquiring a gun?

Show ID to buy alcohol and a lottery ticket? Good.

Show ID to vote? Racist voter suppression don't even think about it.

And then they frame this as an "attack on democracy" when the real attack on democracy is to allow the lowest educated among us to vote. World history has shown us that these are the most unqualified and dangerous type of voters. They are the voters who if you believe Trump was the worst President ever, who put him there in the first place.

You should want limits on voting.

I've had to show ID each time I've ever registered to vote. Where is that not required?

It is my understanding that mail-in ballots are checked against the voter registration records. Are you saying they aren't?

Who gets to decide who is educated "enough" to exercise their right to vote?

It's not required when you mail a ballot to everyone in the state. That's how dead people vote.

I propose that the US Civics test be used as a criteria. Anyone who scores less than 80% should be disqualified from voting(I scored 95% several times I took the test online.). If you don't have the basics of political and social knowledge, why should you have a vote?

The polluting of the voter pool will not lead to a robust democracy, but more Trump's.

I'd be happy if people just had to be able to write their initials on the ground with a stick before they could vote. But then if you required that they'd call you a racist because of black people. I'm starting to get it now.
